2001 Saab 9-5 Aero Sedan 4-door 2.3l on 2040-cars
Harrodsburg, Kentucky, United States
This is my wife's 2001 Saab 9-5 Aero. Purchased from Quantrell Caddilac/Volvo/Saab of Lexington, Ky in 2004. Previous owner was one of the salesman's wife. This car has every option available on the Saab 9-5 Aero, too many to list here, but I will list some options not usually mentioned: Heated front and rear seats. Sport mode button for fun. Winter mode button for bad weather. Wood grain trim console and dash package. Power moon roof, works like new, no leaks. Coolest cup holder in the world. Feel free to look up all the options this car has. The odometer is currently reading 77,454, BUT this car had a brand new from factory engine installed by Quantrell Saab of Lexington, Ky at the 49,700 mile odometer reading. Covered under warranty. Thus net mileage on new engine is 28K. New MoMo wheels and less than 20K miles on new tires. I have all the paperwork to validate all of the above. Paint job is in excellent condition considering this is a 14 year old car. Power steering pump apparently failed yesterday, thus the reason for this posting. We had been cosidering selling it anyway due to now having grand children and needing more room for them and their stuff. Car runs great except no power steering. You will need trailer if you want to purchase. Besides what I believe to be power steering pump failure, the only other issues with the car are that the drivers side window has jumped off track twice since we have owned the vehicle. Local mechanic fixed it both times quickly, stating the plastic track roller broke both times. I have and extra one of these I will give you. The drivers side power door lock is not working but I think it's because the mechanic who fixed the window forgot to connect it. The wood grain trim on drivers side below shifter has curled up a little at the corner and I tried to fix it with glue during cold weather and it cracked and broke off. About in inch in size but still in place. Also the OnStar antenna base has dried and cracked. Other than the above, car looks like new and runs great. Hopefully a Saab collector sees this post because I've had several strangers ask me about this car in the past. I also have a hard copy Haynes Saab 9-5 Owners Workshop Manual I found on Ebay that I will give you. No modifications have been made to this car. It is 100% stock.

GM SUV window switch recall urges owners to park vehicles outside
Thu, 07 Aug 2014It's not unusual for there to be a lag between an automaker announcing a recall and the official documentation showing up on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. So it's no surprise that a recent GM campaign took about a month to appear in its official capacity. However, there appears to be some big differences between the two reports with potential safety implications.
In late June, GM announced that it needed to recall 181,984 examples of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7x from the 2005-2007 model years, plus the 2006 Chevy Trailblazer EXT and 2006 GMC Envoy XL. The new documents paint a slightly different picture with 184,611 needing repaired and different model years listed.
The reason for the fix is still the same, though. It's possible for fluid to contact the master power window switch module in the driver's door, which can corrode the part. Eventually this could cause a short circuit, leaving the buttons inoperable and potentially leading to a fire. But the new NHTSA documents add an important note: "A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made."
Junkyard Gem: 1986 Saab 900 Turbo
Fri, May 31 2019The Saab 900 sold well in Colorado, and owners of these cars tend to hang onto them for decades. For those reasons, I still find 900s while making my rounds of the self-service wrecking yards in the Denver region. The turbocharged models tended to fail more quickly than their naturally-aspirated counterparts, though, so the 900 Turbo can be tough to find today. Here's a 1986 that took its final tow-truck ride into a Denver yard a couple of months back. The 900 received a makeover for the 1987 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem comes from the final year of the 900 with the endearingly 1960s face derived from its 99 predecessor. Most of these cars didn't chug along for quite as many miles as their Volvo 240 countrymen, but that may be attributable more to the differences in driving style between Volvo and Saab owners. The word TURBO had magical connotations during the 1980s, and so most turbocharged cars of the era boasted big, obvious badging. Red car interiors were all the rage during the 1980s and 1990s. Try to imagine the vivid bordellitude of this upholstery before it faded beneath the blazing Colorado sun. Was it a runner when it arrived here? We'll never know. Born from jets, sure, though the original Saab jet was known as "the Flying Barrel" and wasn't especially graceful-looking. Chunk of ice smashes man's windshield
Tue, Jan 5 2016Driving a car piled with snow isn't just lazy, it's dangerous. A driver on Interstate 495 South in Massachusetts learned that the hard way last week after a huge chunk of ice flew off the top of an SUV and onto his windshield. Jeffrey Cote's dashboard camera was running as he drove his Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon down the freeway in Haverhill, MA, Wednesday morning. He was following an SUV in the left hand lane. The SUV doesn't appear to have too much accumulation on it, but the owners clearly didn't remove the snow and ice from the very top of the vehicle. A large chunk of ice flew off the top of the SUV, spun through the air and shattered Cotes windshield. Cote's must be one of the cooler heads on Massachusetts' roads. He didn't swerve, or swear or even gasp. Despite being unable to see the road and covered in glass Cotes safely moved over to the right lanes and safely pulled off on to the shoulder after the accident. The ice not only totally destroyed Cote's windshield but damaged a wiper arm and his side mirror as well. "If I had braked harder, I could have avoided impact," Cotes wrote in the video description. "But it initially appeared the piece was going to fall in front of me." Cotes couldn't read the driver's license plate on the footage and told CBS Boston that he doesn't think the other driver even realizes what occurred. He told the news station he hopes the video reminds people to do the right thing and clear the snow off their cars. "Just a few seconds, just try to slam as much ice as possible off your roof," Cotes told CBS Boston. "Because, it could have gone a lot worse, and it could save someone's life if you do a better job cleaning," Cote said. News Source: CBS Boston Saab Driving Safety Videos snow winter driving cold
