Saab 9-3 1999 Hatchback 9 3 on 2040-cars

Year:1999 Mileage:146309 Color: damage which I have documented in the photos

Nashville, Tennessee, United States

For auction is my wife's 1999 Saab 9-3.  She all but stopped driving it when she went back to school and so it has been sitting outside for about 3 years now.  Now that she has graduated and is working nearby where she doesn't have to drive we have decided to part with it.  Because it has been sitting the battery no longer holds a charge, but it does start up fine with a jump and the level of charge quickly increases as read by a meter.  It drives and shifts smoothly.  There are a few spots of exterior damage which I have documented in the photos. The plastic case that goes around one of the back seat belts is separated but can could probably be easily be snapped back in place--it does not effect the actual use of the seatbelt.  A good portion of LCD display does not display properly with missing lines going through the information on the screen.  The knobs that adjust the thermostat are loose and often come out but can be put back in place.  The tires still have a lot of tread left in them.  The sunroof works fine and makes the car even more fun to drive.  It has heated seats and the leather interior is in good shape. It has a leather wrapped steering wheel and sport driving mode. The remote to unlock/lock the doors does not work, even after replacing the battery.  The hatchback opens fine but does not stay open without holding it up. The owners manual and Saab branded leather case for it are included.  In the past it has at times made a sound while running that we believe was from the air compressor, but the ac blows cold and when I drove it around my neighborhood this morning the sound was not happening.  In fact driving it around the neighborhood this morning was a lot of fun and almost made me decide not to sell it but since we don't need it I am moving forward with the plan.

I have tried to disclose any and all known issues but since it hasn't been getting much use there is a chance there are things that I am not aware of.  For this reason I am selling it "as is" with a low reserve.

Thank you very much for checking out my auction.  Please email me if you have any questions or if you are in the Nashville area and would like to check it out.

Super sleeper Saab 900 does 174 mph in the standing mile

Sun, 14 Apr 2013

Somewhere behind Hennessey setting a new top speed record at this year's Texas Mile with its camouflage Ford GT, a stock-looking 1996 Saab 900T pulled up to the line to see what it could do. The dealer showroom wheels wouldn't offer any indication that the 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood was getting help from a Garrett turbocharger, a tuned ECU and E85 gas to put out 465 horsepower at the front wheels.
Knowing that, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that at the other end of the mile the sky blue Swedish wonder was doing 174 miles per hour. The four-cylinder class at the Texas Mile has plenty such rockets, too, this Swede coming just behind a Dodge Neon that did 175.8 mph. You can watch the Saab do its thing in the video below.

GM SUV window switch recall urges owners to park vehicles outside

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

It's not unusual for there to be a lag between an automaker announcing a recall and the official documentation showing up on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. So it's no surprise that a recent GM campaign took about a month to appear in its official capacity. However, there appears to be some big differences between the two reports with potential safety implications.
In late June, GM announced that it needed to recall 181,984 examples of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7x from the 2005-2007 model years, plus the 2006 Chevy Trailblazer EXT and 2006 GMC Envoy XL. The new documents paint a slightly different picture with 184,611 needing repaired and different model years listed.
The reason for the fix is still the same, though. It's possible for fluid to contact the master power window switch module in the driver's door, which can corrode the part. Eventually this could cause a short circuit, leaving the buttons inoperable and potentially leading to a fire. But the new NHTSA documents add an important note: "A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made."

New owners still struggling to secure rights to use Saab name

Wed, 27 Jun 2012

Not to state the obvious, but if you're going to buy an automaker, it's probably advisable to secure rights to use the name.
That's what the new owners of Saab are trying to work out after buying the iconic Swedish automaker earlier this month, Automotive News reports.
National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the Chinese-Japanese conglomerate, acquired the company's physical assets, including its factory in Trollhättan, but didn't get rights to use the Saab name and logo. Truckmaker Scania and defense company Saab AB maintain the name and logo rights, and will need to sign off on NEVS using it, according to the publication. The parties are in discussions.
