If you are a Saab fan, you know that the Viggen is a special performance version of the 9-3 produced in extremely limited quantities.(2500 for three years.)
I love this car but I've driven it for 10 years to work and back (25 mi. Hence the low mileage.) So I just wanted to freshen things up a little and get some new wheels on the road for myself. So my gain is your gain. I bought this Viggen from a 65 year old lady in Champagne IL. who had knee surgery and couldn't depress the clutch any more with 18,000 mi. on it in 2002. Since I bought it I've had a great time driving down Lake Shore Drive every weekday to work downtown (where it was garaged at work and at home). This car has 74000 mi. on it for an average of around 5600 mi. a year!
Modifications: I've put some small modifications on this car for the sake of handling and performance. I put GenuineSaab Teflon bushings in the front suspension which definitely reduce torque steer, a larger GenuineSaab, sway-bar in the back.
There is a performance ECU chip that makes the engine go from 230hp to 295hp. This Viggen is deceptively fast and great handling. If you've driven a stock Viggen you will really feel the difference between the two.You will love to drive this car. You will have new confidence in your driving with its available power. The performance chip is in the car now and also is an extra $250 above the price of the car (I paid over $900 in 2004 for it) and will be switched back to the original Viggen 230hp ECU chip if you don't want it in the car. (I'm pretty sure you won't want to switch it, I'm just giving you the option.) but i'll throw it in with the right offer. I also wired in a 3.5mm stereo plug for an iPhone or such device to listen to music or talk semi-hands-free into the premium stereo system. It has custom installed wires and connectors to hook up a subwoofer into the trunk that is linked into the stock premium stereo system. (I had 2 - 150watt 10" subs in the trunk, you can buy those from me also for $250 if you wish, I was going to put them in my new car this spring but if you want them...)
I have also changed the oil around 3000 miles or 3 months no matter what with Mobile 1 and factory Saab fliters. It has a set of 4 factory Saab 17" rims with 4 new Hankook summer tires driven for 1 summer. (Killer summer handling). I also have an extra set of 16" factory alloy Saab rims with new winter Hakapileta tires with one short winter season of driving on them for $400 extra.(winter tires)
If you've done the research you'll see that this car for $8495 with 74,000mi is a great price; especially compared with the stock version of the cars that are NOT performance chipped.

NEVS Saab EV prototype on display, with top speed of just 75 mph
Sat, Aug 23 2014National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the Saab-owning Swedish holding company that is in turn owned by Chinese investors, has some problems (i.e., no cash). But that isn't stopping NEVS from showing off a prototype Saab 9-3 Electric Vehicle this week. But wait, you might be saying, didn't NEVS already start production of a 9-3 EV? Yes, indeed, and the vehicle displayed this week was indeed built at the Saab plant in Trollhattan in May as one of those early pilot builds. A modified Saab 9-3 Aero Sedan, the EV has had the lithium-ion battery pack jammed under the floor, so all of the cargo and passenger space of the gas-powered 9-3 remains available. "The starting point for our development of the Electric Vehicle project was to maintain all the good attributes and characteristics," said NEVS' vice president of engineering and product development, Stig Nodin in a statement. You can find the press release below. The li-ion pack comes from Beijing National Battery Technology (which is owned by the same company that owns NEVS) and can offer a range of about 120 miles, NEVS says. The prototype also has a 100-kW electric motor that offers 140 horsepower that provides a 0-60 miles per hour time of 10 seconds and a top speed of just 75 miles per hour. That's unlikely to be fast enough to outrun Saab's creditors, but NEVS says that the prototype is here "to serve as a reference for specification of coming production model(s)," so let's hope the speed number can be increased while the range at least stays the same. Today Nevs presented the Saab 9-3 Electric Vehicle as designed and produced as part of a prototype series in Trollhattan. The car is a modified Saab 9-3 Aero Sedan where the batteries are placed under the floor, keeping the full interior space as well as the luggage compartment intact. With that, the Saab 9-3 EV is just as practical as the Saab 9-3 Aero with gasoline engine. The Saab 9-3's famous driving-experience is of course preserved in the EV, helped by its low center of gravity and a 50/50 weight distribution. "We are happy to present the result of Nevs engineering into a real Saab EV product. The Saab cars' well-known performance and safety is maintained and we foresee a very good product for the market. When we developed the Saab 9-3 Aero Sedan Model Year 14, we focused on enhancing the driving experience, safety and quality.
Boeing, Saab introduce entry for T-X trainer program
Thu, Sep 15 2016This post is appearing on Autoblog Military, Autoblog's sub-site dedicated to the vehicles, aircraft, and ships of the world's armed forces. Boeing and Saab revealed their entry for the US military's T-X trainer replacement program. The new jet, simply called T-X, is like the lovechild of a F/A-18 Hornet and an F-16 Falcon, and as Boeing tells it, will provide "performance, affordability, and maintainability advantages" over the competition. "Our T-X is real, ready and the right choice for training pilots for generations to come," Leanne Caret, Boeing Defense, Space, and Security's President and CEO said in an official statement. And Caret isn't not kidding about the Boeing T-X being both real and ready – Boeing is so confident that it built two examples before the official unveiling on Tuesday. The first jet, which Defense News reports will fly by the end of the year, debuted to media with the kind of pomp usually reserved for automotive debuts. Boeing/Saab will use the second jet – also featured on Tuesday – for structural proof testing. The needs of a training aircraft are quite different than those of a traditional fighter. The T-X features stadium-style seating, so the instructor riding in back has nearly as good a view as the student in front. Student evaluations should be easy, too, as the open software transmits data effortlessly between ground training systems and the jet itself. Functionally, Boeing claims the twin-tail layout provides more agility than a single-tail design – remember, the military's newest jets, the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II both use twin-tail layouts – while the Air Force can mount two weapon hard points on the jet's wings. According to Defense News, four manufacturers – Boeing/Saab, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin/KAI, and Raytheon/Leonardo/CAE – are vying for the contract to build 350 new trainers to replace the Air Force's fleet of aging T-38 Talons. Spyker and Youngman sign deal, plan to build D8 SUV and Phoenix-based range
Mon, 27 Aug 2012It appears Spyker is strengthen its ties and carmaking ability with Chinese carmaker Youngman. This comes in the wake of the brand's latest dealings with a $3 billion lawsuit against General Motors regarding the demise of Saab.
Youngman is reportedly investing €10,000,000 ($12.5M USD) for a 29.9-percent stake in the company. The shares are being sold for €0.05 (6.3 cents) each, representing a fully diluted share. Youngman has said it will not take on more than the 29.9-percent stake.
Additionally, Youngman will invest €25,000,000 ($31M) for the development of an all-new Spyker vehicle, called the D8 P2P, named for the Peking-to-Paris rally. The vehicle had been shown as a concept by Spyker previously, but things had been quiet since then. It appears Spyker will now build the uniquely styled D8 Concept shown above. The vehicle is to launch at the end of 2014 and carry a price of $250,000 per vehicle.
