Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit

original 1,700 miles

1987

Museum quality

Never before did the saying "looks like it just came off the factory floor" sound so true.

This is the closest thing to buying a “new” Silver Spirit today!

Presenting this unbelievable (but real) Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit with only 1,700 original miles. Finished in Dark Oyster (metallic slate grey) with red fine lines and rich burgundy Connolly hides, matching floor rugs and factory moutons. This would be, without any doubt, the VERY BEST mid-80s Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit in the world. A bold but serious claim.

This is a true 10 out of 10 car that meets show quality standard and museum quality. It has an amazing 1,700 original miles and the car is simply as new. 100% all original including paint, tyres, and finishes. The interior looks and even smells like a brand new Rolls-Royce (I will never forget the smell when I witnessed these being built at the Crewe factory!)

This car was purchased new in Canada and almost never driven but coddled by its first and original owner up until about 10 years ago. It was then purchased by a long time Rolls-Royce collector and professional enthusiast who stored this car in a manner only fit for such a very special example. This is first time the car has ever been offered for sale to the open market in its 27 year life. As a Canadian car its mileage shows in kilometers (2,807klms = 1,744mls). The car is fully compliant to US standards.

An impeccably protected example in true mint condition and presents perfectly. It is truly flawless to the definition of the word and any of the tiniest marks or specs you might see in the pictures are either light reflections and/or dust spots. The car sports its original factory fitted set of Goodyear 235/70/15 tyres.

All and everything on the car, including functions and features work to specification. The car drives like it did new; solid and firm yet whisper quiet. So much so, that I had forgotten just how nice these Spirits did drive. It brought back memories of driving Rolls-Royces back in the 80s.

This is a MY1988 specification Silver Spirit which means it has all the design and technical replacements of those which plagued the earlier Spirit/Spur series. This includes the updated electrical system - fuse box and wiring harness design – from those which proved to be a maintenance burden on the 81 thru 85 models.

The body and paint is in simply amazing condition without the slightest (and I mean “slightest”!) blemish. It is literally as new. To give you an idea, there is not even chips on the rocker panels which you would have on any Rolls-Royce no matter how low the mileage. The paint is the original single stage finish from the factory and is very shiny and deep in lustre. It is entirely colour consistent – as you would expect. The red pin-stripe is the original hand applied original from the factory. These were done with the finest of squirrel hair brushes by artisans with the steadiest of hands.

The interior burl walnut wood finishes are in perfect flawless condition and, of course, are the original Rolls-Royce factory finish. The Connolly hides are without marks or blemishes and present beautifully and very elegantly. So new and unused is the interior that the seats do not even show the characteristic Connolly hide "fold-lines" in the leather which develop (like lines in you palm) very soon after use. All you see is the natural hide grain. It is almost impossible to appreciate without seeing and feeling in real life. And how soft they feel! - simply superb and perfect. Everything in the interior is simply flawless and (with apology for the repetition) are like brand new. The dash “top-roll” and rear parcel shelf are perfect. The headlining, door panels, steering wheel, pedals; flawless. The dash, the gauges and switch gear look like they were made "yesterday". The Wilton wool carpets are so new, they still “wool-ball” like new ones. It also has the factory fitted lambswool moutons which are like new.

Having spent all its non-driving life indoors and in strict climate controlled storage at all times, the car is "spic & span" clean and dry throughout. Mechanically the car has always been meticulously maintained and needs nothing. The condition and presentation under the hood is also best described as "brand new". The underside is of factory presentation.

~~ Presenting as a totally original Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit, this is a beautiful and very fine example that presents as a true 10 out of 10 Show car. It is without doubt to be considered the best example of its kind

ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

It is a 1987 Rolls-Royce built "yesterday". Truly like brand new – not an easy claim to make these days.

You could confidently drive this Spirit “as-is” to your next Rolls-Royce meet with the sole intention of winning first prize in its category. And you will - it is that good! ~~

This is by NOT, by means, a typical 1987 Silver Spirit and as such will command considerably more than top condition prices. Notwithstanding, reasonable offers will be considered.

Many additional photos are available at the following link. I recommend all interested buyers to review these to best appreciate the cars stunning condition. Take the time to look at all the close-up photos of the interior (the wood, leather, carpets and headlining are truly like new), bodywork, chrome and overall appearance. This Spirit is so “perfect”, it makes the photos look like original brochure pictures!

A note from RRMOTORSINC:

“For those Rolls-Royce and Bentley enthusiasts who have followed my auctions in the past I welcome you all. For those who are new to my adverts and/or the marque, please note that as a serious collector of some 30 years, all my cars are truly described examples. I have my own private Rolls-Royce and Bentley workshop (not open to the public but dedicated to my own cars) with trained Rolls-Royce and Bentley craftsmen who are proficient in all aspects. As a team, we are dedicated to the preservation of the marque and as such, any car that leaves the stable is completely inspected and work-shopped to ensure mechanical and operational items are maintained appropriately. We adopt a “keep it original” mentality with pride and confidence, offering after sales technical support and assistance well beyond the sale. Because most of my cars are offered for the pleasures of driving enjoyment it is not always possible or practical to seek perfection (in the true sense of the word) but we do always uphold excellence in whatever we do. Our cars are by no means cheap priced cars but we like to think they are amongst the best. To this end, I firmly believe in the famous adage; Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.” We hope you do to.

* PLEASE read auction terms & conditions below BEFORE bidding **

This Rolls-Royce is part of a private collection. Although licensed and bonded, I am not a main-stream retail car dealer or broker; I am a professional car collector of some 30 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I take pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid or make an offer and I openly welcome any potential buyer to come and personally inspect the car. Once you bid or make an offer, you are doing so to buy WITHOUT conditions. Your bid can not be subject to anything. A $2000.00 deposit (non-refundable) is required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. All payments are non-refundable. Payments as described above form an important part of this purchase contract and so, if all the funds are not received as outlined above, I reserve the right to terminate the transaction without notice. If there has been any deposit or other part payments received and I elect to terminate the contract, I reserve the right to keep any such deposits or payments and resell the vehicle to another bidder or interested party or re-list the vehicle at any time. To be clear, if you change your mind for ANY reason and do not complete the transaction in the time-frame required, you will forfeit your deposit. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a national and worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost.

As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make every effort to bring my cars to a high standard. By comparison, my cars are generally superior to others available but they are by no means perfect. You must expect some issues. Unless specifically stated, the car is not of show standard but of nice "driver" condition. Please understand, show cars of this model cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve and sell for prices commensurate, so the sale price of this car reflects its relative condition. You are buying "condition" accordingly. Buyers should not expect to receive concours quality or "perfect" cars at these prices. Please also understand, the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it is not always possible to attend to every item, or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked items. Further, and very importantly, these cars are classic cars also because they are old. So this means a 27 year old car is predominantly comprised of 27 year old parts. And old parts will fail. All buyers must understand and expect that things can or will wear out, break and/or stop functioning without notice. This is even more likely with hand-built English cars of early technology when compared to the typical American car of the same vintage. Please note, fitted radio/stereo systems are usually subject to upgrade by purchasers so I do not ensure operation of these. Similarly, cruise control systems fitted to these classics were of an inferior design and I do not check or warrant the operation of these. Suspension and brakes on these cars are complex. We thoroughly check them and replace things that are identified faulty. But please understand, by example; if we change a brake line because it appears aged or faulty, we do NOT at the same time replace all other hoses because they are of similar age. This is considered "preventative maintenance". We do not do this unless specifically requested and is not included in the purchase price. Feel free to ask for this additional service. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 27 years old. This is the nature of any classic car and especially a Rolls-Royce which was very "complicated" for its era. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition:

The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. If any aspect of the description contradicts what can be seen in the photos, then the photos shall prevail as the reference point. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, unforeseen imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any written or oral statements about the vehicle. Being a classic car in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, the mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any additional costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days from auction end, a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction end. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-34 year old vehicle, and while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country”until you have familiarised yourself with the car. At least, I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars in enclosed carriers from where I bought them to my home.

PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS, CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU CONTEMPLATE DOING SO AS, RESPECTFULLY, THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

I am sorry if these terms seem harsh but there seem to be some very unrealistic buyers out there - fortunately, only few of these people exist but those that do can make life difficult, so it appears EVERYTHING needs to spelled out. Very simply put, this is an old car being offered for sale. It is not new and is subject to the perils of age. Further, Rolls-Royces are not without nuances, idiosyncrasies and they are renown for a host of design issues which can make them not inexpensive to maintain. This is well documented in many circles. You need to be a special and considerate type of purchaser to own a Rolls-Royce. Their down-side is part of the fun in owning them! As the old saying goes; "we love to hate them and hate to love them!" So, please respect the terms and conditions when you bid.

~~ **Please note: This Rolls-Royce is part of the collection of a dear friend of mine. As a professional collector and experienced restorer, I have my own Rolls-Royce dedicated workshop with qualified craftsmen on hand; The Park-Ward Motor Museum. As a passionate collector of the marque I take great pride and pleasure in passing on any of these great cars to its next owner (“caretaker”). In so doing, once this Rolls-Royce is sold, I will put the car thru my workshop to ensure that it is mechanically sound and all major features and functions are operating as described even though the car is contractually being sold "as-is". Certain items such as final electrical tests and hydraulic pressure checks are usually left for this stage as these are considered "commissioning procedures". In this case, this will include the air conditioning system of this car. This and considerable other work will be performed after the sale and before delivery. This is all done at NO CHARGE. Who else selling a Rolls-Royce on eBay does this?! Depending on our work load, please allow approximately 7-10 business days for this procedure. For more information on the Park-Ward Motor Museum and our skills, please eBay message me and I would be happy to show you some 100 Rolls-Royces restored to varying levels over the last few years ~~

VALUES:

Rolls-Royce values vary wildly, entirely dependent on their condition. There are, of course, other aspects that add or subtract from their values – Long Wheel Base versus regular, the year which dictated certain technical changes, etc. The colour alone, for example can make a big difference. And, in the case of this darling example, its unbelievable low mileage. So for the benefit of new-comers to the marque please see the approximate guide to values based on a particular model below. Please remember, these are “plus-or-minus” figures:

Year:                     1986-1989
Make:                    Rolls-Royce

Model:                   Silver Sprit

Show car:             $50,000+

Exceptional:        $25-45,000

Excellent:             $20-25,000

Good:                   $16-20,000

Average:              $12-16,000

Fair:                     $6-12,000

Basket case:         < $6,000

Hopefully this will provide a reference point for the Rolls-Royce being featured in this listing as it compares to the range of different condition examples. Please note, a very poor condition example that is tired and not maintained can easily demand some $30,000 in restoration to make it a "nice" example but remember, it will be no longer original. So don't be fooled by "cheap buys". For any specific questions about this unique example of a Rolls-Royce, please do not hesitate to contact me.

First Dawn from Rolls-Royce raises $750k in charity auction

Sat, Feb 6 2016

Even for a Rolls-Royce, $750,000 seems like a lot of money. But that's how much one customer paid this past weekend for the privilege of acquiring the very first example of the new Dawn convertible. And we're glad to report that the the money is going to a good place. Rolls-Royce introduced the Dawn this past September at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the convertible counterpart to the Ghost sedan and Wraith coupe. It's set to take on the likes of the Bentley Continental GTC and Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet, packing a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 good for 563 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque up front and a folding fabric roof over its four-seat cabin. The company's Bespoke division set up this particular example in Andalusian white, with a deep red roof, red coachline, and a corresponding interior in red and white with Indian rosewood paneling and special treadplates. Valued at over $400,000, the vehicle was donated for the charity auction at the Naples Winter Wine Festival held this past Saturday to benefit the Naples Children & Education Foundation. The winning bid of $750,000 was placed by insurance mogul and hedge fund manager Julian Movsesian, pictured inset at left with Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos. He'll take delivery in April from the dealership in Naples before anyone else gets theirs. Over the same weekend in Arizona, an Acura NSX sold for $1.2 million, a COPO Camaro for $300k, and Jay Leno's Harley-Davidson edition Ford F-150 for $200k – all of them the first of their kind, and all benefiting charitable causes. 2015 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II [w/video]

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

Rolls-Royce Director of Global Communications Richard Carter tells me that his storied employer is "a company that does not chase volume." In a perfect world, mused Carter, the carmaker would sell "one less" of its ultra-luxury vehicles than the fast-expanding world market demands.
And, thanks in no small part to the unprecedented success of the Series I Rolls-Royce Ghost that launched in 2010, the Brit brand seems well positioned to strike that perfect balance between exclusivity and record profits. In 2003 (the year in which the first BMW-backed Rolls rolled off the line in West Sussex), the company managed to sell around 500 cars. This year, with the first run of already-back-ordered Ghost Series II models still weeks away from delivery, the marque will top 4,000 units for the first time in its history.
Considering that each one of those "units" - a somewhat unsatisfying term for motor car this special - will gross Rolls-Royce $300,000 if we're being very conservative, you'll quickly see that creating a very desirable product for one of the best brands in the world negates the need to chase volume. The rich and free-spending are chasing this Ghost, instead.

Rolls-Royce commemorates end of Phantom with Zenith models

Tue, Feb 23 2016

Rolls-Royce will discontinue the current generation Phantom in 2016 after 13 years. Rolls will also axe the Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe in November, and the company won't build new versions of them on its future platform. However, the automaker will send off the pair in style with special edition models. The Phantom sedan will eventually return on Rolls' future aluminum platform, which will underpin all of the company's models. Spy shots suggest minor design tweaks for the new generation Phantom, but there's no mistaking the massive vehicle's chiseled shape. The overall size should remain similar to the current one, but the lightweight metal and carbon fiber should dramatically reduce the weight. Rumors suggest it would still use a V12 for propulsion, and there could be a plug-in hybrid variant later. "I am proud and excited to announce that a new Phantom is on the way – a contemporary and beautiful Phantom enhanced with cutting-edge technologies and design innovations." Rolls CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos said. Rolls will also build 50 Zenith versions of the Drophead and Coupe to give the pair a proper farewell from the lineup. These special vehicles will include a Tailgate Hosting Area to party with class, laser-etched armrests that show the launch sites for the 100EX and 101EX concepts, custom instrument dials, a special version of the Spirit of Ecstasy, and more. "Zenith will be the sum of all the best features of Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe, with a few surprises added," Giles Taylor, the company's director of design, said. Related Video: ROLLS-ROYCE MOTOR CARS BRINGS SEVENTH GENERATION OF PHANTOM TO AN END Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Executive Officer, Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, has announced that the current Phantom will enter the last stages of its celebrated life in 2016. This announcement follows the recent news that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has begun testing its all-new aluminium architecture, which will underpin every future Rolls-Royce arriving in-market from early 2018. He also announced that Phantom Coupe and Drophead Coupe models will not be renewed in the future. These two magnificent Phantom models will end their lives with a special collection of only 50 highly desirable cars to be called Phantom Zenith. The current seventh generation of Phantom started production in Goodwood over 13 years ago and quickly became the foundation upon which the renaissance of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was built.
