I am selling a stunning 1985 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Mark I

This old-school luxury vehicle is powered by the legendary Rolls-Royce fuel injected 6.7 liter V8. The amazing motor is coupled with a GM THM 400 three speed automatic transmission. The buyer will be thoroughly satisfied with the pristine condition that the this vehicle is in - both aesthetically and mechanically.

This all original survivor from nearly three decades ago is finished in a beautiful black paint with tan vinyl top. The exterior is complemented by four white wall tires wrapped around the original 15 inch Rolls Royce wheels.

When the new owner takes a seat inside of this exquisite example of British craftsmanship they will immediately notice how well preserved and elegant the interior is. Tan saddle leather wraps the seats and door panels and is complimented by traditional hand-made wood grain accents which adorn the doors, dash and very unique fold down tray tables in the rear.

This car has nearly all of the features you would expect to find in a modern vehicle; Air Conditioning, an AM/FM Radio which has had a Pioneer 6 Disk CD player added to it, Cruise Control, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Door Locks, Eight way adjustable Power Seats and Power Windows.

This gorgeous 1985 Silver Spur Mark I has just 47,828 original miles and could surely go much much more. It has made it nearly thirty years and is still in pristine condition - it has at least thirty more ahead of it.

This is a two-owner car. The original owner had the vehicle from 1985 - 2002 and the second owner has meticulously maintained the vehicle until they recently decided to sell it. I have all of the original books that came with the car in addition to an extensive and thorough documentation of the vehicles service history. I have given bidders as many photos as possible and can happily send more upon request. The vehicle is available for showing upon appointment only.

It is my opinion that this vehicle falls into the classification of a "Condition 2" car according to Hagerty.com's Price Guide Report. "Condition 2" is defined as "#2 cars could win a local or regional show. They can be former #1 cars that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws, but will be able to find some not seen by the general public. The paint, chrome, glass and interior will all appear as excellent. No excessive smoke will be seen on startup, no unusual noises will emanate from the engine compartment. The vehicle will drive as a new car of its era would. The one word description for #2 cars is "excellent."
The median price for a "Condition 2" 1985 Silver Spur is $17,400. Due to the extremely low mileage I believe my reserve price is set accordingly and gives bidders a true chance to own an amazing vehicle for less than market value. As in a real auction I will not reveal my reserve price to people who email me asking what it is. My advice would be to bid until it is off IF you are seriously interested in this vehicle.

Only 6,240 Mark I vehicles were produced from 1980-1989 making this a collectible vehicle and a rare piece of automotive history.

Notes about the 1985 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Mark I: In 1985 Rolls-Royce standard saloons received some minor revisions which mainly focused on the facia and interior trim. Externally the headlamps wash & wipe system gave way to high pressure jets mounted on the bumper, which eliminated the need for separate wipers. In addition to some subtle re-styling, the cars received burr walnut veneers, even more elegant than before, that extended to the door cappings. On the early Silver Spirit cars this was limited to finishers formed from walnut. Operation of the cruise control was simplified, the air conditioning outlets were slightly repositioned within the center console, and the digital display was modified to be all the more informative.
In 1985 Rolls Royce produced their 1,000,000th vehicle.

249 reasons you want to go to Goodwood Revival

Sat, Sep 16 2023

At its most basic, Goodwood Revival is a long weekend worth of car races featuring cars made before 1970. There are lots of those, though, including some pretty great ones all over the world. But nothing is like Goodwood Revival because it's so much more than "just" vintage car racing.  First, you have to look the part. Attendees are strongly encouraged to dress in period clothing from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, with a strict dress code enforced should you want to enter the paddock. The goal is to create a more authentic atmosphere to match the cars and the meticulously restored and recreated paddocks, grandstands and other facilities of the reborn Goodwood circuit. Now, the dress code was relaxed this year since the Saturday was literally the hottest Sept. 9 on record in that part of England, and the organizers didn't want people dropping dead because they needed to wear an ascot. Some people definitely took the "relaxed" bit too far, but there was still plenty of atmosphere maintained. It really does make a big difference, as those "relaxed" individuals were often akin to seeing a Starbucks cup in a scene from "Game of Thrones."  You can see what I came up with below along with former Autoblog editor Reese Counts and various other Goodwood attendees. Second, there's the parking lot. But I'll let this entire separate post detail that. Third, there's the enormous carnival-like area featuring vintage-looking rides and various boutiques. Both of those are on the outside portion of the track, and honestly, you could easily just spend your entire day in the parking lot and carnival/shopping area without even crossing over into the circuit area. There you'll find more shops, food and drink opportunities, plus obviously, race car paddocks and the track itself.  Fourth, there are airplanes! I heard there are fewer than in the past, but they're there and they're cool. The Goodwood circuit started out life as the perimeter road around the World War II airfield RAF Westhampnett.  Fifth, with all of the above, Goodwood Revival really is fun for the whole family. It isn't just a bunch of old guys sitting around in lawn chairs. There are plenty of women and adorably dressed children, including babies in vintage prams. It's also not an event that's exclusively for the uber rich, even if they are certainly in full force given who has the sort of money needed to go vintage racing.

This exploding Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is angering, mesmerizing

Sun, 19 Oct 2014

Between Las Vegas and the emirates of the Persian Gulf, we're sure there are Rolls-Royces to be found in the desert all the time. And we don't doubt that, given those locations, one gets torched every so often. There'd probably even be someone in a tuxedo or evening gown running for cover when it happens, too. The thing is that we're seldom if ever there to watch it go down, much less capture it in stunning high-definition, frame-by-frame video when it does.
That's where this four-minute clip by Tyler Shields comes in. The American photographer and filmmaker staged and captured this Silver Shadow being doused in gasoline (or at least what we're supposed to believe is gasoline) and set afire in the Mojave Desert, along with actor Cru Ennis and actress Ana Mulvoy-Ten.
It's heartbreaking but mesmerizing, and you'll want to watch the video for yourself to see which side you fall on. If it's the former, take solace at least in the fact that the Silver Shadow is far from a rare beast. In fact, it remains by far the most prolific Rolls-Royce ever, with over 30,000 made between 1965 and 1980... so we doubt this one will be missed terribly.

Rolls-Royce builds the Sweptail, a beautiful one-off boattail coupe

Wed, May 31 2017

When it comes to custom-built cars, Rolls-Royce rarely fails to impress. Its latest creation is this one-off coupe called the Sweptail. According to Rolls-Royce, it was commissioned by a collector of bespoke machinery, and the car's design inspiration was the coachbuilt Rolls-Royces of the 1920s. The end result is an enormous Rolls-Royce coupe with a beautiful trailing boattail design. It looks like a hyper-expensive boattail Buick Riviera in the best way possible. A glass roof sheds light on a particularly plush interior. There are only two seats in the massive coupe. Where rear seats would have gone, are shelves made of wood and glass for storage. Wood veneer, consisting of ebony and paldao, is found everywhere in the car, even in the cargo areas. The darker wood trim is also accompanied by light colored leather. The Sweptail has a few little tricks up its sleeve, too. Opening the suicide doors on either side will reveal platforms for attache cases. The cases are designed to carry the occupants' laptop computers, and they're constructed from carbon fiber, wrapped in leather, and finished with aluminum and titanium hardware. Between the seats is a chiller that comes complete with crystal champagne flutes and a bottle of champagne from the year the owner was born. The trunk is also filled with custom-fitted luggage. Being a one-off, you won't be able to buy one of these coupes yourself. But it does show the capabilities of Rolls-Royce for doing special automobiles. And, who knows, if you have the money and connections, you might be able to have your own unique Rolls-Royce commissioned.
