Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II

1977

"Town & Country"

**Many photos below, so please take the time to read the description to allow them all to load.**

Well..... this IS something special! A Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II "Town & Country" sedan. This is a creation of the Park-Ward Motors Museum and represents what we believe Crewe might have conceived if indeed a "Woody" would have been on their option list. We believe the promotional material would have read something like this:

~~ The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, Town & Country - Limited. Designed for the city business man you have become, and the country man in your heart. The best of both worlds.

The Town & Country is uniquely distinguished by external wood paneling to the sides from the waist-rail down and the lower boot panel. All selected by our most experienced wood joiners. The finest African walnut veneers combined with only the best Ash woods from Australia, flitch cut and then slip matched by artisans and applied by the most skilled of craftsmen. The final finish walnut-pegged into position. And in the tradition of all things Rolls-Royce, paneling highlighted by Milanese burl walnut. And if this was not complete, hubcap beauty rings individually veneered in matching walnut, individually book matched to each other and
completed by hand-painted fines lines in matching ash.

To maintain your travel in style, fitted is a bespoke stainless steel luggage rack that will safely carry the finest of luggage. With this limited edition Town & Country version of the Silver Shadow II comes a his-and-hers luggage set by Louis Vuitton - themselves the leaders of luxury luggage and accessories and the most befitting choice for your Rolls-Royce. Your luggage is secured by hand made leather straps supplied by London's finest saddlery.

The look of your Town & Country is distinctive from any angle, and no less from the front by its yellow driving lights and fog lamps in front of a lower bumper air dam.

To complete your country-side driving adventures, a full size electric sliding sun-roof is fitted. The only optional extra for the Town & Country is an Everflex top.

Special "Town & Country - Limited" badging discretely identifies your investment with "Estate" emblems to the aft pillars.

Your Town & Country - Limited offers all the usual traditional luxuries offered in the regular Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II.

The best for both worlds; the Rolls-Royce Town & Country. The driving man's car for city functions and country-side touring. When only the best will do. ~~

Park-Ward Motors is proud to offer this unique example. Originally finished in Old Ivory  with hand-painted burgundy fine lines to the waist rails. The Connolly interior is finished in rich burgundy and makes for a striking combination with the exterior.

This Silver Shadow II sports the very rare sun-roof option. These were special order only when the cars were new and were an astronomical $10,000 per unit!

This example was a Californian car most of its life and then resided in sunny Texas for the last few years. This Shadow II is a January 1977 production car with the serial number 30130, making it about the 70th Silver Shadow II off the production line (out of some 8,500 built).

It is primarily an original presenting Silver Shadow II that was recently been lightly restored by the Park-Ward Motor Museum - a nation-wide leader in Rolls-Royce restoration with over 30 years Rolls-Royce and Bentley experience.

The "Woody" transformation was carried out by Park-Ward Motors and is, of course, not a genuine Rolls-Royce option. We did it for fun and enjoyment. The wood paneling utilises modern vinyl wrap technology in all parts (there is no real wood involved) and is entirely removable. The luggage & rack is detachable. It is genuine Louis Vuitton luggage on board! The front yellow/amber lenses are changeable. "Town & Country" badging, "Limited" and "Estate" emblems are not Rolls-Royce name marks and are affixed without holes drilled.

The interior presents beautifully and is in excellent condition. The Connolly leather is in brilliant condition throughout without any notable marks or blemishes. It is incredibly soft and supple, finished in rich burgundy which was often referred to by UK-based Rolls-Royce dealers as "House of Lords red" (after the English parliamentary house which famously uses this rich burgundy leather). The carpets are a solid burgundy. The leather was recently hide fed but nothing else and as you can see in the photographs, presents stunningly. I think it is difficult not to describe the interior as anything less than striking! Please have a look at the photo link of the many close-ups of the leather.  The dash is good with no leather pulling around the vents and the rear parcel shelf is as new.

The burl walnut wood finishes are entirely original and have NEVER been redone. They are very nice. This is also very rare to see on a Rolls-Royce of this vintage as the RR finish was a very thick and deep lacquer which in mostly all cases, cracks and peels off after many years of seasonal temperature change. For this car to sport its original wood can only mean that it has been homed and/or stored under "constant" temperature which very clearly supports its West coast USA up-bringing. The wood in this car is the Milanese burl walnut finish option and thanks to the grace of Mother Nature, the grain of the burl is very rich and intense, beautifully deep and inviting.

This Shadow II is very straight with the paint in overall decent presentation. It is not perfect, though. The paint is actually mostly original which is quite rare for these cars considering the paint on these would rarely "go the distance". It is overall shiny and consistent so it presents well, but being original there are signs of age to include crazing (mainly on the roof and afore of the windshield), minor chips, blemishes and signature cracking in the lead-wiping areas of the car (Rolls-Royce used a process known as "lead-wiping" in which lead was used to join body panels as opposed to bondo. It was a true craftsmen process - lost in modern car manufacturing methods. With this art, came issues of the lead expanding and contracting at a different rate to the steel and aluminum on the car causing certain places of the overlying paint to stress crack. Literally, every Silver Shadow ever made now displays this symptom). So please do not expect perfection from a show car point of view but it is otherwise very nice for driver use*. Unless you were specifically looking for the imperfections, you would not glaringly see them. And, for sure, your friends and colleagues would not notice them either. The UPSIDE is that the body is entirely original, accident and dent free with no rust whatsoever. The fine lines were recently re-painted by hand because the original lines were showing wear thru from years of polishing (this confirms originality!). Carried out by a craftsman of the art, these were done on the waist-rails and hubcap beauty trim rings in accordance with Rolls-Royce factory methods.

All glass, chrome and bright work are excellent. All lights, instruments, features and functions are in working order.

Mechanically, the car has been subject to the 30 year service and restoration experience of the Park-Ward Motor Museum's private workshop and trained RR mechanics and craftsmen. Like every other car delivered by Park-Ward it comes with everything in excellent working and operating condition, fully inspected and serviced. This includes the all important hydraulics & brakes - fully inspected and pressure tested with any parts replaced and/or over-hauled as required -  reservoir (cleaned and flushed), pumps (both rebuilt), accumulators (rebuilt), valves (both rebuilt), height control and valves, hoses replaced, lines flushed, calipers and pads. The entire braking system has been serviced. This work alone is some $10,000 by a Rolls-Royce agent so this having been done means nothing to be concerned here for years to come. All electrics; seats, windows, gauges and instruments have been fully gone thru and serviced as required. The climate control in good working order with the heater nice and hot and the air conditioning blowing icy cold. In summary, the car is ready to be shipped with everything fully operational, down to the smallest light bulb.

The tires are relatively new whitewalls in the correct 235/70 factory recommended size. These are considerably more expensive than the commonly substituted 225/75 tyres that owners usually fit.

The car is an extremely beautiful presenting example that is well in advance of any Silver Shadow II and is in excellent presentation and condition. A strong 8 or 9 out of 10. So nice, in fact, that our owner has chosen this car as his driver over the last few weeks and as the Company's flagship to attend the 2014 RROC National meet in Pennsylvania . That says a lot as he wont drive "any 'ol thing!"

*In our opinion as professional restorers, we think the car would look very nice with an Everflex vinyl roof fitted. Below are pictures of an artists impression of this car in its "Town & County" format sporting the option. We think this would complement well. If you would like us to do that on your purchase of this example, please enquire as to the additional cost.

~~ A striking combination Silver Shadow II "Town & Country" with its Old Ivory over burgundy colour scheme. Although not "factory Crewe", we believe it is a truly unique and very fine representation of the marque and what "might have been". It certainly draws a lot of proud attention wherever you drive her and no less when driven to your next Rolls-Royce meet! ~~

Interesting information on the Silver Shadow II series

The “II” mark provided considerable improvement over the earlier Silver Shadow. In 1977, the model was renamed the Silver Shadow II in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering, modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly, a dual exhaust along with the first-to-market fully automatic dual system air-conditioning system and a modernised and improved dash lay-out. The model represents the pinnacle in design features for the Silver Shadow series that started production in 1966.

A note from RRMOTORSINC:

For those Rolls-Royce enthusiasts who have followed my auctions in the past I welcome you all. For those who are new to my adverts and/or the marque, please note that as a serious collector of some 30 years, all my cars are truly described examples. I have my own private Rolls-Royce workshop (not open to the public but dedicated to my own cars and fellow RR enthusiasts) with trained Rolls-Royce craftsmen who are proficient in all aspects. As a team, we are dedicated to the preservation of the marque and as such, any car that leaves the stable is completely inspected and work-shopped to ensure mechanical and operational items are maintained appropriately. We adopt a “keep it original” mentality with pride and confidence, offering after sales technical support and assistance well beyond the sale. Because most of my cars are offered for the pleasures of driving enjoyment it is not always possible or practical to seek perfection (in the true sense of the word) but we do always uphold excellence in whatever we do. Our cars are by no means cheap priced cars but we like to think they are amongst the best. To this end, I firmly believe in the famous adage; “Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.” We hope you do too.”

RRMOTORSINC is a division of Park-Ward Motors and The Park-Ward Motors Museum. We can always be reached at +1-312-320-6996.

** PLEASE read auction terms & conditions BEFORE bidding. **

This Rolls-Royce is part of a private collection. Although licensed and bonded, I am not a main-stream retail car dealer or broker; I am a professional car collector of some 30 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I take pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid or make an offer and I openly welcome any potential buyer to come and personally inspect the car. Once you bid or make an offer, you are doing so to buy WITHOUT conditions. Your bid can not be subject to anything. A $2000.00 deposit (non-refundable) is required within 24 hours of the close of the auction and payable by PayPal. The balance of funds are required within 7 days of the close of the auction and must be provided by cashier’s check or bank wire. I cannot accept PayPal for the balance. Full payment must be made (and payments cleared) before the title and/or the vehicle is released. All payments are non-refundable. Payments as described above form an important part of this purchase contract and so, if all the funds are not received as outlined above, I reserve the right to terminate the transaction without notice. If there has been any deposit or other part payments received and I elect to terminate the contract, I reserve the right to keep any such deposits or payments and resell the vehicle to another bidder or interested party or re-list the vehicle at any time. To be clear, if you change your mind for ANY reason and do not complete the transaction in the time-frame required, you will forfeit your deposit. I am happy to assist with shipping arrangements on a national and worldwide basis but the winning bidder takes full responsibility for pickup and/or shipping and at his cost.

As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make every effort to bring my cars to a high standard. By comparison, my cars are generally superior to others available but they are by no means perfect. You must expect some issues. Unless specifically stated, the car is not of show standard but of nice "driver" condition. Please understand, show cars of this model cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve and sell for prices commensurate, so the sale price of this car reflects its relative condition. You are buying "condition" accordingly. Buyers should not expect to receive concours quality or "perfect" cars at these prices. Please also understand, the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it is not always possible to attend to every item, or perhaps I may have inadvertently overlooked items. Further, and very importantly, these cars are classic cars also because they are old. So this means a 40 year old car is predominantly comprised of 40 year old parts. And old parts will fail. All buyers must understand and expect that things can or will wear out, break and/or stop functioning without notice. This is even more likely with hand-built English cars of early technology when compared to the typical American car of the same vintage. Please note, fitted radio/stereo systems are usually subject to upgrade by purchasers so I do not ensure operation of these. Similarly, cruise control systems fitted to these classics were of an inferior design and I do not check or warrant the operation of these. Suspension and brakes on these cars are complex. We thoroughly check them and replace things that are identified faulty. But please understand, by example; if we change a brake line because it appears aged or faulty, we do NOT at the same time replace all other hoses because they are of similar age. This is considered "preventative maintenance". We do not do this unless specifically requested and is not included in the purchase price. Feel free to ask for this additional service. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 42 years old. This is the nature of any classic car and especially a Rolls-Royce which was very "complicated" for its era. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition:

The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. The seller shall not be responsible for errors in description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein and makes no warranty in connection therewith. If any aspect of the description contradicts what can be seen in the photos, then the photos shall prevail as the reference point. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, unforeseen imperfection, defect or damage. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects at the buyer’s request prior to the close of the auction. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any written or oral statements about the vehicle. Being a classic car in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, the mileage may be recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility for any additional costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days from auction end, a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction end. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-34 year old vehicle, and while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it across the country”until you have familiarised yourself with the car. At least, I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars in enclosed carriers from where I bought them to my home.

PLEASE; IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ABIDE BY THESE TERMS, CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU CONTEMPLATE DOING SO AS, RESPECTFULLY, THERE CAN BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

I am sorry if these terms seem harsh but there seem to be some very unrealistic buyers out there - fortunately, only few of these people exist but those that do can make life difficult, so it appears EVERYTHING needs to spelled out. Very simply put, this is an old car being offered for sale. It is not new and is subject to the perils of age. Further, Rolls-Royces are not without nuances, idiosyncrasies and they are renown for a host of design issues which can make them not inexpensive to maintain. This is well documented in many circles. You need to be a special and considerate type of purchaser to own a Rolls-Royce. Their down-side is part of the fun in owning them! As the old saying goes; "we love to hate them and hate to love them!" So, please respect the terms and conditions when you bid.

~~oo00oo~~

~~ **Please note: As a professional collector and experienced restorer, I have my own Rolls-Royce dedicated workshop with qualified craftsmen on hand; The Park-Ward Motor Museum. As a passionate collector of the marque I take great pride and pleasure in passing on any of these great cars to its next owner (“caretaker”). In so doing, once this Rolls-Royce is sold, I will put the car thru my workshop to ensure that it is mechanically sound and all major features and functions are operating as described even though the car is contractually being sold "as-is". Certain items such as final electrical tests and hydraulic pressure checks are usually left for this stage as these are considered "commissioning procedures". In this case, this will include the air conditioning system of this car. This and considerable other work will be performed after the sale and before delivery. This is all done at NO CHARGE. Who else selling a Rolls-Royce on eBay does this?! Depending on our work load, please allow approximately 7-10 business days for this procedure. For more information on the Park-Ward Motor Museum and our skills, please eBay message me and I would be happy to show you some 100 Rolls-Royces restored to varying levels over the last few years ~~

VALUES:

Rolls-Royce values vary wildly, entirely dependent on their condition. There are, of course, other aspects that add or subtract from their values – Long Wheel Base versus regular, the year which dictated certain technical changes, etc. The colour alone, for example can make a big difference. So for the benefit of new-comers to the marque please see the approximate guide to values based on a particular model below. Please remember, these are “plus-or-minus” figures:

Year:                     1977-1980
Make:                    Rolls-Royce

Model:                   Silver Shadow II

Show car:             $45,000+

Exceptional:        $35-40,000

Excellent:             $25-35,000

Good:                    $18-25,000

Average:               $12-18,000

Fair:                      $6-12,000

Basket case:         < $6,000

Hopefully this will provide a reference point for the Rolls-Royce being featured in this listing as it compares to the range of different condition examples. Please note, a very poor condition example that is tired and not maintained can easily demand some $30,000 in restoration to make it a "nice" example but remember, it will be no longer original. So don't be fooled by "cheap buys". For any specific questions about this unique example of a Rolls-Royce, please do not hesitate to contact me.

According to the London based investment research firm; Historic Automobile Group International, classic cars have appreciated on average, 13% per year since 1980, whilst overall stock values averaged an 11% gain over the same period. The following graph charts the value of collectible cars vs. the S&P500.

Rolls-Royce releases sketch of Phantom Drophead Coupe Bespoke Waterspeed Collection

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

A limited-edition Rolls-Royce Phantom is something of an oxymoron. The company only sold 3,630 cars last year, and even fewer of those were its flagship Phantom. However, that isn't keeping the company from regularly revealing even more limited editions of its already hyper-exclusive cars. This is precisely the case with the new Phantom Drophead Coupé Bespoke Waterspeed Collection, a forthcoming model limited to 35 examples.
The special models are inspired by a famous speedboat race on September 1, 1937, between the United States and Great Britain on Lake Maggiore on the Swiss-Italian border. The British fielded the Bluebird K3 hydroplane boat powered by a massive supercharged V12 Rolls-Royce R-Type engine with Sir Malcolm Campbell at the helm. All that displacement shot the sleek watercraft to 129.5 miles per hour, claiming a new world waterspeed record in the process.
For the special commemorative Drophead Coupé model that celebrates "a seminal act of British daring and endeavor," Rolls-Royce is finishing the convertible in Maggiore Blue paint with a brushed steel hood and tonneau cover, along with inlaid wood trim. Rolls is not announcing an official release date or price for the special cars yet, but they are going on sale before the end of the year. Scroll down for the whole story about the car's inspiration.

Rolls-Royce to auction one-off 115th birthday Phantom

Wed, May 8 2019

Rolls-Royce and RM Sotheby's has announced a partnership amidst an expected luxurious environment, with a five-course dinner at Sotheby's redesigned 90,000-plus-square-foot New York City headquarters. As part of Rolls-Royce's 115th birthday celebration (the official date was May 4), the two announced a one-off, bespoke 2020 Rolls-Royce Phantom will be auctioned off this fall exclusively on Sotheby's online auction service. The lead image shows an early-stage sketch of what the special-edition Phantom could look like. There are extremely limited details about the car, but Rolls-Royce confirmed it will be red. It will also include "an original hand-crafted leather work of art" as part of the interior. We expect this to be in the same vein as the dashboard inlays and hand-stitching we've seen in past bespoke Rolls-Royces. Because the one-off car will be honoring a birthday, we wouldn't be surprised if it featured several indicators that mark the occasion. Think numbered door sills, treadplates, dashboard or console plaques, and possibly special-edition badges. This, of course, is speculation, but these are often features on these types of vehicles. The base price of a Rolls-Royce Phantom is approximately $450,000, and when we first tested the uber-luxe personal limo, it reached as high as about $650,000. And that was just a "regular" Phantom. As a guaranteed collector's item, a set price for this vehicle would likely cost significantly more. But its price is not set, as it will be sold through RM Sotheby's online auction. It seems likely that this thing could easily tick right past $1 million. Rolls-Royce said the car will be auctioned in the fall but gave no specific dates. We'll provide updates as soon as we get 'em. Related Video:

Even in a down economy, Rolls-Royce is on a roll

Limited Volume, Big Margins Spell Success
Bigger isn't always better, especially when it comes to selling super luxury. Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös expects the British automaker to again post a record year, despite the economic troubles in Europe and weak growth in both the US and China.
"It is not all doom and gloom out there," Müller-Ötvös explains, noting that the declining sales in Europe and elsewhere have been offset by good performance for the marque in the Middle East, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Russia.
