1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II

Constant development had resulted in a variety of improvements having been incorporated into the models from the Silver Shadow range. Having added a few important new features was the reason why Rolls-Royce choose new designations for models delivered from February 1977 onward. As the mainstream model the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II substituted the previous model and the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II was added. The latter's long wheelbase offered four inches more space for rear seat passengers and in fact this model was the successor of the R-R Silver Shadow long wheelbase. The new rack and pinion steering in combination with a modified front suspension reacted more quickly than the recirculating ball steering of the earlier models.

The car offered here is a fabulous example of one of the 2145 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II’s built between 1977 and 1980, and the only year with fuel injection. In stunning Mason Black over Silver two-tone livery, this fine example shows less than 84,000 miles on the odometer. The previous owner of 10 years maintained the car well, though it has been sitting for the last couple of years. To ensure a fine driving car, it was prepared for sale by a marque expert, who rebuilt the fuel injection system, serviced the car and went through brakes and suspension, renovating as needed.

The car shows well with excellent paint considering the car’s age and mileage. Tires have plenty of tread remaining, and there is no bubbling beneath the grey vinyl roof, testament to the rust-free quality of this car.

The interior is also in excellent condition considering age and mileage. The black leather seat surfaces, piped in silver grey, and panels show very minor wear, as does the carpet, dash, etc. The burr walnut veneer has some cracking to the varnish, but it is minor, and there is no delamination.

The car drives exceptionall well, and all systems work perfectly, including cold AC and the updated stereo system with trunk mounted CD player, though the original radio still holds pride of place in the dash.

Rolls-Royce posts 25% jump in sales thanks to Cullinan demand

Luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce said on Tuesday it recorded a 25% jump in sales in 2019, underpinned by solid demand for its first-ever SUV, Cullinan, just a year after the launch. The 116-year-old British company said it sold a record 5,152 cars in 2019, compared with 4,107Â units in the prior year. "Worldwide demand last year for our Cullinan SUV has driven this success and is expected to stabilize in 2020," Chief Executive Officer Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said in a statement. The Cullinan was unveiled in 2018. The BMW-owned brand's strong numbers serve as a breather at a time when the global automobile industry is still grappling with various challenges amid a broader economic slowdown that dented sales of many automakers. North America continued to be the biggest contributor with about a third of Rolls-Royce's total sales, followed by China and Europe. Related Video:

Former Princess Diana Rolls-Royce being auctioned for charity [w/video]

While it isn't that uncommon to see cars belonging to celebrities and dignitaries roll across the auction block these days, this car is a little extra special. This particular 1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was the car that Prince Charles and Princess Diana arrived at the White House in during a visit in 1985. As some added trivia, this was also the visit where Princess Di cut a rug with none other than John Travolta.
Volo Auto Museum will be auctioning off this piece of American and British history on November 9th - exactly 27 years from Princess Di's White House visit. According to the auction listing, this armored Silver Shadow was the official car of the UK's embassy, and it has been valued at around $2 million by the Berman Museum of History. The auction will have no reserve with some of the proceeds going to the Children with Cancer UK charity that Princess Diana started in 1988.
