Silver Shadow
1975
A beautiful original presenting example!

Here is a really original example of a Silver Shadow. Finished in Old Ivory with black and red finelines to the
waist-rails and beauty rings. The interior has strong contrasting ebony Connolly hides with matching Wilton carpets
throughout. The same ebony theme carries through to the boot.

This is an unmolested original presenting example that has been maintained by a Rolls-Royce enthusiast and
collector with the car taken to many shows and displays. It is primarily all original with no modifications –
right down to the original push button radio and separate Pioneer 8-track cassette player. It was owned by an
Illinois enthusiast and yet has never been used outside of sunny, summer weather driving. As a result, it has been
freed from the perils of harsh weather and is very clean underneath. It has always been well maintained and
serviced by authorized Rolls-Royce agents and comes with its original manual.

The body on this Silver Shadow is very straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The car still sports 90% of
its original paint. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. The paint presents
beautifully with only the most minor little mark here and there from use but consistent with a low-mileage car. It
does display some of the typical paint cracking in the lead-wiping areas of the car (A & C pillars and top of the
fenders) which is common to not a few, but ALL original Silver Shadows. (Rolls-Royce used a process of
'lead-wiping" to join body panels, so with the different metallurgic properties of lead, steel, and aluminium, the
over-lying paint would fracture in these places). These are not very noticeable and being a white car do not "jump
out you". It needs nothing other than a wax from time to time.

The interior of this Silver Shadow looks close to perfect. The black Connolly hide leather is 100% original from
the factory. It has never been re-dyed and is in absolutely outstanding condition with no tears nor fading and very
supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics. The leather really has been lovingly preserved.

The burr walnut wood throughout the car is beautiful. They are also completely original and have not been redone.
Although not flawless (not a word you can use flippantly) but in excellent condition with only the most minor
imperfections on the front door cappings. Certainly stunning for a 35 year old Rolls-Royce and by no means in need
of redoing. The colour is deep, the grain rich and the finish smooth.

The head lining is all original and in great condition without any stains or soiling. Likewise, is the Everflex
finish to the dash and top-roll. The matching black Wilton wool carpets are in excellent condition and in a nice
"unused" condition. The boot (trunk) carpet with the same theme is also in great condition.

The Silver Shadow presented here has been work-shop inspected where all work needed carried out. Important costly
items such as the hydraulics and brakes were fully inspected and serviced as required. This includes checking of
all brake hoses and system pressure tested and bled. It is ready to drive and enjoy. The odometer shows a low
56,000 and the overall condition of the car evidences, without doubt, the mileage is correct (particularly when
you look at the condition of the interior, under-hood, brake pedal etc). It is very quiet and smooth on the road
without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples
of this model.

The white-wall Michelin 225/75 15 tyres are a very period touch. Although old, they have plenty of tread and ride
smoothly. The hubcaps are excellent with no noticeable imperfections. All remaining bright-work is in good
condition. All electrics have been checked right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light.

Under the bonnet, the presentation is amazing. The previous owner was very meticulous in presentation for shows.
Everything is factory original in presentation and has been precision detailed, parts painted, lines and connectors
buffed & polished and everything cleaned to a clinical degree. Even the factory fitted fan-belts with the name
"Rolls-Royce" were fitted so that the names lined up with each other on the double pullies. The under-bonnet heat
pads are near new! You must take the time to look at the photos of the engine bay as its presentation is like that
of only a new example - without exaggeration. Simply stunning and to show class standard!

As you would expect, this Silver Shadow comes with its original jack, correct tools and operating manual.

The car is of very high standard and is an easy 9 out of 10 driver rating.

5 thoughts on the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre

Mon, Oct 9 2023

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Dudes associated with Rolls-Royce have said some pretty memorable things. T.E. Lawrence called the cars “above rubies,” while Charles Royce presciently observed — in 1900 no less — “The electric car is perfectly noiseless and clean. There is no smell or vibration. They should become very useful when fixed charging stations can be arranged.”  IÂ’m not into jewelry, so the 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre is definitely better than rubies, and itÂ’s an EV with a lot of character and purpose. Chuck and Tom were right. This luxury grand tourer is one of the best cars IÂ’ve ever driven — as it should be given it starts at $422,750 — but it also succeeds as an EV.  HereÂ’s five thoughts as to why. 1. ItÂ’s dressed impeccably My test car has a striking two-tone exterior of Arctic White and Midnight Black, recalling a signature cue of great Rollers of the past. A spokesman said two-tone paint dates to the 1920s, notably on the Phantom V, then took off during the coachbuilt cars in the ‘30s. By the 1950s, the paint scheme had become a Rolls-Royce calling card. It looks like the Spectre is wearing a tuxedo. Upon arriving for my drive at Meadow Brook Hall, a century-old mansion with a history almost as deep as Rolls, I was asked if I had a preference. There was a pink car, a pretty blue one and some others. I pointed at this one immediately. Furthering the coachbuilt vibe, you get in and out of the car via two huge rear-opening doors. Like on other Rolls-Royces, they can open and close themselves. 2. What an interior Naturally, itÂ’s a beautiful cabin. The wood, chrome and leather look and feel rich. The one I tested has a gorgeous blue interior with a navy blue backdrop and sky blue accenting along the top of the dash. A sliver and white clock is set in the middle of the instrument panel. The seats are two-tone blue with the RR crest embroidered in the headliners. ThereÂ’s a fair amount of room in the backseat, and my knees didn't even touch the seat in front of me.  The turn-by-turn navigation is outstanding. There's a camera in the middle of the dashboard with arrows telling you which way to go. It's not distracting because the aesthetic of the SpectreÂ’s dashboard is so simple, yet elegant. It's a quiet cabin — more serene than the Cullinan — and stoutly keeps the outside world at bay. Look up and youÂ’re greeted by the Starry Night Sky. Look down and note the plush carpet. I encourage you to drive barefoot. 3.

2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith is everything you need, everything you don't [w/videos]

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

It's not often that we get to talk about a new Rolls-Royce, what with the fact that the company's current model line is basically made up of two vehicles. But that all changes here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, with the introduction of what might be the most emotional Roller of modern times, the Wraith.
The new two-door Rolls is effectively a Ghost coupe, and it stands to reason that this is Royce's answer to the Bentley Continental GT, albeit at a higher price point. Much higher, actually - the 245,000-euro - $320k USD - price of entry for the Wraith is about $100,000 more than a Continental GT Speed coupe. Woof. And to our eyes, all that extra money isn't buying you much in the looks department, as the collective opinion of the Autoblog editors on-site in Geneva is that it's more imposing than elegant.
But the Wraith will no doubt be a special, exclusive, impressive machine for anyone who plunks down that sort of cash. For starters, it's powered by a V12 that puts out an impressive 624 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed ZF "Satellite Aided" transmission. This nifty cog-swapper actually works with GPS to not only pre-select the right gear for the portion of road you're on, but for the next portion of you'll be driving on, as well. That, friends, is cool.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom leads this month's list of discounts

Wed, Jun 16 2021

Every month, we take a look at vehicle sales data in America to pick out the vehicles with the largest monetary discount. Usually, the list is dominated by high-performance two-door luxury sports cars. This month is different. Much to our surprise, the 2020 Rolls-Royce Phantom stands above all others with an average discount of $18,588 off the price quoted on its window sticker. Now, it bears mentioning that an $18,000-plus discount still only represents 3.46% of its $537,500 average retail price, and that the resulting $518,912 cost to drive off the showroom floor still makes the Phantom an extremely expensive range-topping luxury sedan. Still, even very wealthy people won't snicker at that kind of savings. Up next is another unlikely newcomer to the biggest-discount chart: the 2020 Porsche Taycan. The electric super sedan's average sticker price of $152,250 is cut to $135,707 after a discount of $16,453 is lopped off. That represents a savings of nearly 11%. We can't say how many of the Taycan's buyers over the last month will be able to claim tax rebates due to the Taycan's status as an electric vehicle, but that could potentially represent a further cut off the car's sticker. Rounding out the top three is the 2020 Maserati Quattroporte. Buyers of this Italian luxury sedan are saving an average of $13,839 for an average transaction price of $87,646. We normally only share the top three, but this month's list is interesting enough that we'll share some more. In fourth and fifth place are the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class (with an average $13,239 discount) and the 2021 BMW 7 Series (with an average $12,435 discount) followed by the 2020 Rolls-Royce Wraith — interestingly enough also with a savings of 3.46% — and the 2020 Maserati Levante and Ghibli.
