The Panamera fills the gap in Porsche's line between sports cars and the Cayenne SUV, offering high speed touring
for four in a comfortable and spacious package. It's especially wide at 76 inches, and its 195 inch length and 55.8
inch height make for plenty of interior space, and its rear hatch gives good access to its 15.7-cubic feet of
storage space. Flop the seatbacks down, and there's room for 44.6 cubic feet of luggage. The center of the
Panamera's body structure is steel, helping with rigidity, while the front frame sections, front double-wishbone
suspension components, rear subframe and multilink suspension, hood, doors and hatch are aluminum, which reduces
excess weight. In all, the S weighs in at just 3,968 pounds--well under the Maserati Quattroporte or Mercedes-Benz
S63 AMG--and weight at extreme ends of the chassis has been eliminated, giving excellent handling
characteristics.Five models are available: The base model comes in both rear-wheel and all-wheel form, S and the
all-wheel drive 4S and Turbo. The base models are powered by a 3.6L V6. The S and 4S are powered by Porsche's
32-valve 4.8L V8, which makes 400 horses and 369 pound-feet of torque. The S models has a top speed of 175 mph and
provides a 0-60 time of just 5.2 seconds. The 4S shares the same 175 mph top speed, but the addition of all wheel
drive drops the 0-60 time to 4.8 seconds. The Turbo makes 500 horses, which Porsche claims allows it to sprint to
60 in just 4 seconds flat on its way to a 188 mph top speed. All Panameras receive an updated version of Porsche's
PDK 7-speed automatic, which has been given two main shafts rather than the three offered in the 911, allowing the
unit to fit in a more narrow transmission tunnel and freeing up interior space. The 7-speed is optional on all
rear-wheel drive Panameras and standard on all the all-wheel drive models. All models receive a stop-start system,
which stops the engine when the car comes to a complete stop to save fuel. Once the brake is released, the engine
is automatically restarted. An available air suspension system allows control of the car's spring rate with the flip
of a switch, automatically lowering the car's ride height. Porsche's Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) is also
available, which de-couples the chassis' stabilizer bars when running in a straight line to increase ride quality,
then automatically reengaging them in the corners for increased control. Several levels are selectable with a
switch mounted on the dash. Porsche also offers a ceramic brake upgrade (PCCB), which reduces unsprung weight while
also significantly improving braking performance. The Panamera's interior features a liberal use of woodgrain,
leather and brushed aluminum. The louvers on the air vents, the sunvisors, the interior mirror and front and rear
consoles all available in leather trim. 18-way adjustable leather front seats and 8-way adjustable rears are
standard, as well as a host of power options. The Panamera is available for customization through Porsche's
Exclusive & Tequipment service, offering an array of high-end options including a rear seat cooling box in the
center console, which keeps drinks chilled and includes Porsche-crested glasses. Rear seat entertainment is also
available, which includes dual 7-inch flatscreen monitors mounted in the front seats' headrests, as well as
individual DVD players and cordless headphones.

Felicity Ace sinks with thousands of VWs, Porsches, Lamborghinis
Tue, Mar 1 2022The stricken ship Felicity Ace sank overnight after a week of salvage efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful. The ship, which was carrying up to 4,000 VW Group cars, went to the bottom unexpectedly while a salvage team was attempting to tow it to shore, Bloomberg reports. "Initial reports from the local salvage team state that the vessel had sunk at around 9AM local time having suffered a list to starboard," Mitsui O.S.K. Lines transportation company (MOL), which owns the Felicity Ace, said in a statement released early Tuesday.  "The last vessel position was around 220nm off the Azores," MOL said. "The salvage crafts will remain around the area to monitor the situation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available." The ship sank after being battered by waves and listing 45 degrees to starboard, the ship’s operator said. “The weather was pretty rough out there,” Pat Adamson, a spokesperson for MOL Ship Management (Singapore), a unit of Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd., said by phone. “And then she sank, which was a surprise.” VW, Porsche, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini-branded models were aboard the ship, which was headed to Rhode Island from GermanyÂ’s Emden port when the fire broke out on Feb. 16. Rough seas and ongoing fires fueled by the lithium-ion batteries of EVs onboard delayed the ship's salvage and recovery operations for the better part of a week. While the likelihood of salvaging the smoke and potentially fire- and water-damaged vehicles from Felicity Ace's hold was slim to none, some had held out hope that their special-ordered vehicles might survive the mishap. The Panama-flagged Felicity Ace was safely evacuated of its 22 crew members by the Portuguese navy after a fire started in its hold more than a week ago. The ship can carry up to 4,000 cars. European carmakers declined to discuss how many vehicles and what models were on board, but it appears to have been transporting approximately 2,500 cars, including roughly 1,100 Porsches and an undetermined number of Volkswagens. The cars aboard were on order. Porsche customers in the United States were being contacted by their dealers, the company said. “We are already working to replace every car affected by this incident and the first new cars will be built soon,” Angus Fitton, vice president of PR at Porsche Cars North America, Inc., told The Associated Press in an email. The ship sank in water nearly 10,000 feet deep, the Portuguese Navy said.
2014 Porsche Panamera 4S Executive
Fri, 09 Aug 2013If the idea of a Porsche sedan (or, long hatchback) is still off-putting to you, then you might want to look away now. For 2014, the polarizing Panamera has received a midcycle refresh bringing slightly different styling, as well as adding two new models to the lineup, the S E-Hybrid and the stretched-wheelbase Executive. Having focused most of my recent trip to Germany on a First Drive of the intriguing plug-in Panamera, I also got to spend some time with the roomier Executive model.
Offered in both 4S and Turbo guise, the Panamera Executive has been stretched by almost six inches for the sole purpose of improving rear passenger space. Although it's hard to imagine anyone would willingly buy a Porsche and opt to sit in the back seat, I'd have to say that if I'm going to be chauffeured around in a car, why not make it a Porsche? For the most part, though, I'm guessing that many Panamera Executive sedans will be owned by people who want to one-up their buddy driving a stretched BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Driving Notes:
Another cool projection vid, this time with a Porsche 911
Fri, 28 Dec 2012Porsche has become the latest automaker to take advantage of clever projection technology. The automaker worked up a quick presentation for the 2013 911 Carrera 4S to show off a bit of "motionless driving." The display tracks the sports car from production to back-road caning and city-center cruising, displaying a variety of exterior color choices and wheel options without resorting to a two-dimensional video.
This isn't the first time we've seen an automaker use its new product as a projection screen. Subaru, Hyundai, Lamborghini and others have all done the same, and the trick never fails to be visually interesting.
As you may recall, we got to play with the 2013 911 Carrera 4S back in November and found the machine to be a better daily driver than its rear-wheel drive counterpart. You can check out the projection video below.
