This Porsche Boxster S had 40,000 original miles before the conversion to all electric drive. This is a professional conversion done by Electric Vehicle Concepts.

This car retains the original air conditioning and all other features that come on a $65,000 Porsche Boxster. The Boxster now weighs less than the original gas model. The high volt and high amp system creates near the same power and performance as the original Porsche gas engine with top speeds over 125 mph. This car has a range of over 50 miles at 55 mph. All the original trunk space is available in the rear and interior areas, as well as most of the front. New 100 amp cells have been located in the front and rear compartments. These lithium cells are showing life spans over ten years. An EVpower battery management system is connected to each cell to control charging and the low voltage warning system.

The Manzanita PFC30 charger and BMS control box are accessible behind the driver’s seat. The charger is wired at this time to use 110 AC outlets but can be changed to use 220 AC outlets. An adapter can be used for public charging stations. There is forty feet of charging extension cord that feeds into the original gas tank area. Charging times are equal to the miles you have driven. Using 110 AC power the charging is equal to one hour for every 10 miles. With the charger set for 220 AC the charge time is cut in half.

The 9” motor is coupled to the original six speed manual transmission with a new clutch and pressure plate. This car can be driven in third or fourth gear on city streets up to 60 mph without shifting or using the clutch. For freeway speeds over 60 mph shifting to fifth or sixth gear is desired.

Porsche Supercup racer dies in crash in Australia

Tue, 15 Oct 2013

Even with great strides made towards increasing the safety of motor racing, fundamentally it's still a dangerous sport. And now it has claimed another life.
That life belonged to one Sean Edwards, an accomplished GT racing driver. Edwards was killed at Queensland Raceway in Australia, riding shotgun in a Porsche 996 GT3 while acting as instructor. The driver was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries. Sean Edwards was 26.
The son of former F1 driver Guy Edwards (whose car he drove in the filming of Rush), Sean won the European GT3 Championship in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and drove a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 to repeat victories at the 24 Hours of Dubai as well as this year's Nürburgring 24 Hours. Edwards had been competing in the Porsche Supercup, whose standings he currently leads with just two rounds to go, and could be crowned champion posthumously.

Porsche gives GT3 owners extra year of warranty, new engines in production April 22

Sat, 12 Apr 2014

While the auto industry reels from massive recall after massive recall, Porsche has quietly been working on a fix for an issue that's forced owners of the new 911 GT3 to park their track-ready rockets for fear of an engine fire. Thanks to a leaked letter from Porsche to a GT3 owner (which has been certified as real), we now have an idea of just where the German brand is at with the fix.
On April 22, Porsche will begin production of a new batch of GT3 engines for the 785 affected models across the globe. As you'll recall, the original issue rested with a screw joint that could loosen the connecting rod. The new engines have an "optimized piston rod screw connection," that should keep the connecting rod in place. Once technical validations are completed, production will kick off and new powerplants will be shipped around the globe for owners of the troubled cars.
Porsche will hand out a certificate to owners of affected cars once repairs have been completed, as a means of documenting the work. To make up for the trouble, Porsche will be giving owners an extra year on their new-vehicle warranty, while the 911 GT3 concierge will be reaching out to compensate them for having to park their car for so long.

Porsche 919 Hybrid revives Porsche's factory Le Mans efforts

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

After months of teasing with camouflaged testers, Porsche has finally unveiled its prototype entry for the 2014 World Endurance Championship, the 919 Hybrid. Porsche, you may recall, hasn't had campaigned a factory team at Le Mans in years, so the 919 is nothing less than their recommitment to endurance racing.
Combining a 2.0-liter V4 (yes, a V4) that revs to 9,000 rpm, the 919 produces around 500 horsepower with a pair of energy recovery systems. The first system recovers the heat energy from exhaust gasses as they pass through an electrical generator, while the second system is a bit more familiar. Using a setup similar to what is found on the production 918 Spyder, a generator on the front axle recovers kinetic energy from the brakes, which is subsequently stored in a battery system. That power can then be sent to the front wheels at the driver's command, effectively turning the 919 into an all-wheel-drive racecar.
Despite these various forms of motivation, Porsche doesn't claim to be seeking outright power supremacy, with Chairman Matthias Müller saying, "In 2014, it will not be the fastest car that wins the World Endurance Championship series and the 24 hours of Le Mans, rather it will be the car that goes the furthest with a defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that carmakers must overcome. The 919 Hybrid is our fastest mobile research laboratory and the most complex race car that Porsche has ever built."
