This vehicle is in great overall condition.  I am active duty military and during the past year I was deployed to Afghanistan.  For that reason, the car was sitting in storage and required a lot of work to get it back into top mechanical condition.  The work was done by the best European auto specialist in El Paso, and it now runs, drives, and handles like a true sports car.  Included is a photo of the invoice that lists everything that was replaced which totaled $2850.  I also had the whole exterior re-painted and polished in its original, gorgeous pearl-white color (another $1300), so there is not one dent or scratch on the exterior of the vehicle.  The only parts of the body that were not painted were the inner door jams, so you will see marks and scratches on them when the doors are open.  The wheels were re-painted as well to make them look great and really stand out against the pearl white body.  The A/C blows really cold, and the windshield wipers were just replaced.  New tires were put on a couple years ago, but due to the car being in storage, they have less than 500 miles worth of use. I also got started on a custom black and white interior a couple years ago to make the inside match the outside of the vehicle.  As you can see from the photos, the seats, door panels, and some pieces on the center console were re-covered and the roll bars and gear shift knob were painted.  I intended to use the money I saved from my deployment to make this a car-show quality vehicle, but unfortunately some personal and financial circumstances have just come up and I cannot afford to finish or keep the car.  With that being said, there are still quite a few blemishes on the interior.  The carpet on the floor of the driver side is a little worn and starting to come apart by the fuse box (shown in photo).  I purchased some $130 custom-made floor mats to cover the wear and make the floors look great.  You can see a bit of wear from rubbing against the roll bar and a scratch on the back of the passenger seat.  Also a small blue mark in the white part of the driver seat.  The center console shows some wear and tear around the ash tray and the hand-brake lever has a crack and also shows some wear.  The steering wheel has been re-wrapped, but you can still see a little bit of wear and pitting.  There is a very small blemish in the white leather on the driver-side door handle.  The passenger seat is missing a plastic cover plate, but is really only noticeable if the passenger door is open.  The convertible-top window is a bit cloudy.  You can see when you look out the back, but the images will appear somewhat blurry (photo is provided so you can get an idea of how cloudy it is).  There is a scratch in the tint on the passenger door window (cannot be seen in photos). The convertible top operates just fine, but the light on the dash stays on when the top is closed.  Once you put the top down, the light goes off.  Also the air bag warning light stays on. Finally, the horn and alarm are not working.  I tried replacing the fuse, but they still didn't work.  Those are all the faults that I am aware of.  It sounds like a lot of faults, but they are mostly small, cosmetic blemishes and all in the interior.  I just want to make sure that I am disclosing every flaw to the best of my knowledge, and I have tried to include good pics of all blemishes that would show up well in photos.  The Experian report shows a clean vehicle history with no past problems.  The mileage is a little higher than a lot of other Boxsters, but is still pretty good for a vehicle of this age.  I paid off the bank loan last month and have the clear Texas title in my possession.  It just passed the Texas state emissions inspection as well. Included with the purchase of the car, are the books you see in the photo and the custom Euro-style license plate with mounting frame.  If you would like, I can also throw in a brake calipers paint kit.  I purchased the kit, but never actually got around to painting the calipers. The paint is white and it includes a set of black Porsche logo stickers.  There is no reserve, but I am starting the bidding at the lowest price that I can accept.  Over the past two months, I have put thousands into paying off and fixing up this car, but as mentioned earlier, I am now forced to sell it as is.  It's very close to being 100% complete and car show ready.  If you purchase this vehicle, you would be helping a veteran out greatly.  I prefer that payment be made by bank wire transfer from a US financial institution, but I will also accept a cashier's check from a US financial institution.  Payment must be received within seven days of the auction's close.  If you do the bank wire, I will cover the cost of the transfer by reducing the final sale price by $25.  Pick up or shipping needs to be arranged by the buyer.  I will answer any of your questions to the best of my ability and as quickly as possible.  Thank you for viewing.

Mysterious Porsche 911 Cabriolet spied, could be GTS

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

While Porsche's designers can jokingly be accused of being some of the laziest in the industry due to the incremental changes to the 911's iconic design, no such charge can be leveled against the engineers and product planning folks. That's because it seems like each week arrives with news of a new variation of the marque's iconic rear-engined sports car. So, for this week, we've brought you images of what we think is the new 911 GTS Cabriolet, undergoing testing in a thawing winter wonderland.
Now, what is it that gives this 911 away, compared to standard convertible? Well, the big thing is the new offset, center-mounted exhausts. Borrowing a page from the last Volkswagen R32, these exhaust tips are unlike anything we've seen from Porsche. Only the GT3 wears center pipes, and unlike these spy photos, the twin pipes on the track-minded 911 are stacked neatly alongside each other. The other change spotted by our spies is the set of active-aerodynamic flaps in the front bumper, which can automatically channel air toward the brakes for increased cooling, or close off to reduce drag, as needed.
Those exhausts are a pretty big design detail, and so far as we can tell is the only differentiator between the other 911s in this car's posse. Our spies speculate that this could be a 911 Speedster, but point out that both the canvas roof and windshield remain unchanged - the rumored Speedster model would almost certainly feature a different roof assembly along with a steeply raked windshield.

2022 Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance Mega Gallery | The show in pictures

Mon, May 23 2022

COMO, Italy — Held annually, the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance is, in many ways, Europe's version of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It takes place in a beautiful location, and it brings together an impressive selection of rare and valuable cars. It's a real treat for the eyes, the ears, and, if you're into champagne, the palate. The 2022 edition of the show was no exception: About 50 cars were shipped to Lake Como from over a dozen countries, and it wasn't just the usual suspects. Sure, there were a lot of pre-war cars (including a couple of one-off models), but some of the icons that younger enthusiasts grew up with (like the Lamborghini Countach) were present as well. This year's event was split into eight categories: The Art Deco Era of Motor Car Design, The Supercharged Mercedes-Benz, How Grand Entrances Were Once Made, Eight Decades of Ferrari Represented in Eight Icons, "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday," BMW's M Cars and Their Ancestors, Pioneers That Chased the Magic 300 KPH, And a design award for concept and prototypes. The jury gave the coveted "best of show" award to a 1937 Bugatti 57 S owned by Andrew Picker of Monaco, while the aforementioned classes were won by, respectively: The Bugatti 57 S, shown below, A 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Cabriolet, A 1956 Chrysler Boano Coupe Speciale, A 1966 Ferrari 356 P Berlinetta Speciale Tre Posti, A 1961 Porsche 356 B Carrera Abarth GTL, A 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL, A 1989 Porsche 959 Sport, And the Bugatti Bolide concept unveiled in 2020. Winning at Villa d'Este is a big deal: The cars are judged by a panel of highly experienced judges. No one gave me a scoring sheet, presumably out of fear that I'd award points to the late-model Fiat 600 lurking in the parking lot, but several cars that didn't win an award caught my eye. One is a 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, a grand-prix racer that was once owned by King Leopold III of Belgium and that has never been restored — its patina is inimitable. Another is a 1961 BMW 700 RS. One of two built (the other is in the BMW collection), it's a tiny, ultra-light roadster related to the 700 and powered by a 697-cubic-centimeter air-cooled flat-twin tuned to develop 70 horsepower. It won several hill-climb events during the 1960s, and it's one of the rarest cars ever to wear a BMW roundel. Aston Martin's freshly-restored 1979 Bulldog concept was cool to see as well; check out the cassette player integrated into the headliner!

Porsche finally moving ahead with flat four engine

Sun, 23 Mar 2014

When Porsche released the first Boxster in 1996 and the first Cayman in 2005, the idea was to create an entry-level model for the German automaker's sports car range. The latest iterations of both closely related models, however, have begun to encroach dangerously on the 911's territory, particularly in their newest GTS specifications. That could be about to change, however, with the introduction of a four-cylinder engine for the compact mid-engined coupe and roadster.
According to Automotive News, Porsche is finally preparing to launch a new boxer four engine in the Boxster and Cayman, following years of speculation. The engine would be based on the same architecture as the company's famous flat six, but with two fewer cylinders to cut weight. Don't expect it to cut much in the way of performance, however: Porsche chief Matthias Muller indicates that the new engine could produce as much as 395 horsepower - significantly more than even the 340hp flat six in the Cayman GTS, suggesting that the engine could even find its way into the 911 as well.
It's no more clear which markets would get the four-cylinder engine, either. But wherever it is offered and in whichever form, it wouldn't be the first time we'd see a Porsche with a four-pot engine. Not by a long shot. Both the classic 912 and 356 were powered by boxer fours, as was the 914 - not to mention the 718 pictured above and the iconic 550 Spyder. The front-engined 924, 944 and 968 packed inline-four engines, but the last of those were discontinued in the 1990s. The prospect of a four-cylinder Boxster/Cayman has been rumored for many years now, most recently joined by the possibility of a four-pot Macan as well.
