Purchased brand new from Champion Porsche, this single-owner 2013 Panamera GTS was custom ordered with many factory options that are not usually spec'd. Finished in Jet black, this car has the SportDesign sideskirts ($1,390), painted Rear Apron ($680), 20" Turbo II wheels ($1,820), Color Crested center caps ($185) and 3M window tint ($250) make this car look even more aggressive. Open the door and the Illuminated Carbon Fiber Door Sill Guards ($1,850) welcome you to the Carmine GTS interior package ($3,450), which is a combination of leather & alcantara with red seatbelts and deviated stitching throughout. The Guards Red Sport Chrono timer ($500) and Fire Extinguisher ($240) were added to match, and the Carbon Interior Package ($1,990) contrasts the aluminum trim to make the cabin feel extremely exotic. Upgraded Bose Surround Sound System ($1,440), SAT/XM/HD receiver ($1,120), and Park Assist+Reverse Camera ($1,255) take the PCM nav system a step beyond. The rear passengers this car never carried were not forgotten either!.. Four Zone Climate Control ($1,020) extend the carbon fiber to the rear console and Electronic Rollup Shades ($890) provide additional privacy. Porsche Entry & Drive ($1,090) and Servotronic ($270) are creature comforts the driver gets to enjoy. There is also a ClearBra ($900) installed by the dealer on the front bumper, which is all but invisible unless you feel the edge.

The car was built with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector in lieu of the standard alcantara because it does not show wear (those who know oils from your skin deteriorate alcantara touch points very quickly). I also refused to delete the Panamera GTS decals on the leading edge of the front doors and trunk badge because while they are a subtle, they denote this car is not a pedestrian Panamera. All chrome trim is blacked out on GTS models (headlights and exhaust tips too) and the red Turbo brakes compliment the interior perfectly. Pictures honestly do not do this car justice - even the dealer said this was the nicest Panamera he had sold. It is a fantastic driving experience - the sport exhaust makes the 4.8L V8 sound like a 60's muscle car (it really does) and Sport/SportPlus mode provide an incredible driving experience (not exaggerating, its size defies logical physics) This car really is the answer to a sports cars' lack of practicality and to a large degree, eliminates the need for a 911. It is a head turner without screaming it. It eats up the road with ease and covers ground effortlessly. I have driven more than my fair share of performance cars and this car truly is one of my favorites.

It has belonged to my mother since new and she enjoyed it on the state roads of NH in the summers. In cliche terms, it really is a mint condition bone stock, non-smoker, middle aged female-driven, highway miles example and has not seen winter, or a track for that matter! We are long time auto enthusiasts and take excellent care of the cars. For instance, oil was changed before scheduled services (as an out of pocket expense) for preventative maintenance because 15k miles is too much IMO! It now resides in our air-conditioned warehouse in South Florida and is not being driven anymore until sold. An unlucky situation for a divorcee is going to be someone's good fortune.

While this vehicle DOES have a clean Carfax and has NEVER been in an accident, I want to disclose that it has had cosmetic damage repaired. Last year, the two drivers side doors were carelessly scraped in a parking lot. I researched body shops for weeks until entrusting it to Mike's Auto Body in Malden, MA who did a truly stellar job. I am that jerk when it comes to bodywork and can tell you the paint and orange peel match is excellent, enough so that I am as proud to openly share this about the vehicles history. I also have photographs of the prior damage to prove it was not a significant wreck and will absolutely provide them to a serious buyer to ease any concerns. Besides that, the only other flaw is the original tires are near the end of their life. Pirellis aren't exactly known for their durability, so >20k miles on a car this size speaks volumes about how the car was driven..  I think I have answered most questions but if you have any thing further you'd like to know, please feel free to contact me directly!

Magnus Walker turbocharges his love for the Porsche 911

Thu, 31 Oct 2013

He's had his fill of early, long-hood Porsche 911s - he owns at least one from each model year, from 1964 to 1973 - so Magnus Walker, a fanatic of the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker, recently set his sights on the early Porsche 930, as documented by this XCAR video called 'Turbo Fever.' Let us translate: pretty soon Walker will own all of the earliest, non-intercooled 911 Turbos - at least one from each model year, starting at 1975 and ending at 1977 (though the 1975 911 Turbo Carrera never officially was imported to the US by Porsche, so it'll be tougher to find one Stateside).
Any Porsche enthusiast can tell you why they love their car, and it often comes down to the small details that differentiate one model year from another. One of many examples is the mid-'80s 928. They look similar, but the basic difference between a 1984 Porsche 928 S and a 1985 928 S (US-spec) is two camshafts and 54 horsepower, though each car's V8 has its own pros and cons. We'll let Magnus Walker tell you all about the 930 and what makes the first three years special, as he's becoming quite the expert on early, air-cooled 911s. When the nearly 15-minute mini-documentary was filmed, which you can view below, he already had added four early 930s to his collection!

Conquest and controversy conclude the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona [spoilers]

Sun, 26 Jan 2014

If you don't wish to know who won the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, you should avert your eyes right now. We'll even give you a double-space to skedaddle...
For those of you still with us, the first race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) is done, but the discussions about it certainly won't end for a while. Daytona Prototypes claimed the first four overall places, the top spot taken by the No. 5 Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdain and Burt Friselle. The 16th and final caution of the race bunched the field up for an eight-minute sprint to the flag, so the first place getter finished just 1.4 seconds ahead of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Max Angelelli. Third place went to Brian Friselle in the No. 9 Action Express Chevrolet Corvette DP, 20 seconds down. Chevrolet power hasn't taken the overall win since 2003, eleven years later it scores a one-two-three-four. The No. 6 Muscle Milk/Pickett Racing ORECA-Nissan 03 scored fifth place, the top LMP2 finisher.
The Prototype Challenge class win went to the No. 54 CORE Autosport team of Colin Braun, Jon Bennett, Mark Wilkins and James Gue.

First-ever Porsche headed home to company museum

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

About 30 years before Ferdinand Porsche designed the Volkswagen Beetle, he created the Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model - or simply, the P1 - you see above. This was the first vehicle created by Porsche, and the car gets its nickname from the fact that he had stamped "P1" on many of the parts marking it as the first Porsche... sorry, 356 No. 1.
Now while you'd think that such an important piece of Porsche heritage has been in a museum or even the automaker's not-so-secret lair, it has actually been sitting at a warehouse for the last 112 years. Thankfully, that's all about to change as Porsche has recovered P1, and the car will soon be on "permanent display" at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
The P1 has a 3 horsepower motor capable of delivering a top speed of 21 miles per hour and a driving range of 49 miles, and, like many vehicles in Porsche's history, the motor is positioned at the rear of the vehicle. According to the press release posted below, the P1 finished first in a 24-mile electric vehicle race in Berlin in 1899, but it has been sitting since 1902.
