The 987C Cayman's mid-engine design makes it one of the best-handling sports cars ever produced. Motor Trend went as far as to say this about the 2011 Cayman: "Lithe on the road, fluidly seductive in appearance, and positively alive in your hands: It's now, in my humble opinion, very simply the best sports car in the world." Add the incredible ForgeStar 19" Gunmetal racing wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and you've got one incredible machine that people can not stop staring at.

This beautiful car only has 8,508 miles at the time of writing this auction, and the only reason I'm letting it go is because it's a weekend car, and I'm not using it as much as I should be to warrant keeping it. It's ALWAYS been garage kept, rarely if ever seen any rain, zero snow or salt because it's a Florida car. The car runs flawlessly and handles unlike any car you've ever driven before - even the 911.

A car this clean really needs to be seen and driven in person to be appreciated. It still smells new, is still being broken-in, and the 4-year factory warranty doesn't expire until sometime in 2015.

The car is completely stock except for these modifications:
  1. 3M tint (highest quality 3M tint available)
  2. New battery this past summer
  3. Debadged (will send the "Cayman" badge along with vehicle)
At around 6,500 miles, I changed the wheels to staggered Forgestar Gunmetal lightweight racing wheels with Michelin Pilot tires (see photos). These wheels are specifically designed for the 987 and 987c Porsche models, and will only fit Cayman and Boxster models. The wheels are HUB-CENTRIC which is what makes them special. The WHEELS ARE  INCLUDED in the auction - along with the ORIGINAL OEM Porsche Wheels and Continental Tires that came on the car. The wheels are in perfect condition with no road rash and the tires have 6,500 miles and plenty of wear left in them. The winner of the auction will get BOTH the OEM wheels/tires AND the ForgeStar wheels/tires - switch back and fourth as you like, but the ForgeStar hubcentric setup is the absolute winner here.

Please feel free to ask any questions - I'm happy to help.

Regards, happy bidding and good luck.

Watch the incredibly complicated operation of Porsche's new targa roof

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Despite Porsche having claimed the name, targa tops are nothing new. In addition to the semi-roofless version of the 911, plenty of cars in the past have used removable roof panels - the new Corvette Stingray has one (as have prior generations), and this type of open-air experience has been available on past vehicles like the Pontiac Solstice Coupe and Honda Civic del Sol.
But when Porsche took the top off its brand new 911 Targa here at the Detroit Auto Show, it was indeed cause for pause. Simply put, this is one of the most complicated and intricate electronic roof panel removal techniques we've ever seen, save perhaps, for the setup found on the Japanese-market Civic del Sol from the 1990s.
We won't spoil the video for you, but basically, rather than just the roof panel coming off, the entire rear glass area lifts away the body in order for the small section over the passenger compartment to slide back. This has to be incredibly expensive to repair once it inevitably breaks. And we highly doubt you'll be able to operate this mechanism at any speed.

Porsche Macan to get four-cylinder engines

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

Porsche hasn't offered a four-cylinder engine since the 968 went out of production in 1995 - the better part of two decades ago. There'd been talk of a four-pot Boxster or an even smaller model to slot in below it, but while the latest intel indicates that Porsche is moving ahead with its four-cylinder plans, it's a different kind of vehicle that will get it first.
That, of course, would be the new Macan. Just revealed a few weeks ago at the LA Auto Show, the Macan crossover is being launched with a pair of twin-turbocharged V6 engines (a 3.0 with 340 horsepower and a 3.6 with 400 hp) and a six-cylinder turbodiesel with 258 hp. But smaller engines, according to emerging reports from Autocar and Auto Express, are on their way.
Word has it that Porsche is preparing a 2.0-liter turbo four with 280 horsepower and a diesel with the same displacement and cylinder count, engines that will power new entry-level Macan models that will slot in beneath the existing Macan S, Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo. While the diesel is tipped to be ported over from the Volkswagen parts bin, the four-cylinder gasoline engine is said to be under development by Porsche itself, which could mean it will have a boxer layout.

The Volkswagen Group switches official language to English

Wed, Dec 14 2016

The Volkswagen Group can't be fairly thought of as entirely German anymore, so the news that the company is switching its official language to English to help attract managers and executives is a rational, if surprising, decision. While many VW Group companies are still staidly German in character and culture, consider the other companies that it controls: Bentley (British), Bugatti (French), Ducati and Lamborghini (Italian), Skoda (Czech), Scania trucks (Swedish), and SEAT (Spanish). Not to mention the large Volkswagen Group of America operation, which constructs cars in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen's explicit motivation is to improve management recruitment – making sure the company isn't losing out on candidates for important positions because they can't speak German – and that's inherently sensible in a globalized economy. Particularly considering, like it or lump it, that English is the lingua franca of said global economy. It also should make it inherently easier to communicate between its world-wide subsidiaries and coordinate operations. It's hard to say for sure if this will have any impact on the consumer, although it's easy to see the benefits if, say, VW Group hires some American product planners or engineers and they push for features and designs that more closely suit American needs. After all, the US is a hugely important market for any manufacturer, and so the switch to English almost certainly has something to do with the outsized influence of the US in the global economy. And there doesn't seem to be a downside from a purely rational perspective, although it could mean that the Group's corporate culture becomes less German. Whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on your perspective.
