Where other SUVs plod along like elephants, the Porsche Cayenne GTS zips around like a cat. And we're not talking about some fat housecat that falls off the arm of the couch, then looks around like that was exactly what it meant to do. No, the Cayenne has the moves of a feral beast racing through the underbrush. Put the Cayenne into sharp corners and it darts around like a sports car. While it may fall in to the SUV category, the Cayenne GTS is truly a Porsche at heart. The 21" wheels with Pirelli tires, adjustable sport suspension, and 6-speed manual transmission make this Cayenne like no other SUV on the road. The 4.8l V8 makes 405hp and 369 ft-lbs of torque which combined with a 4.1:1 rear end gear, the Cayenne does 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. When you climb aboard, the Cayenne's seat and layout tell you you're not occupying someone's dining-room chair. There are various damper settings to choose from, with the car hunkering down and tightening up in three stages. Push the sport button, and amusingly, the clearly hot-dog rap of the dual exhausts gets louder—majorly loud—causing a kind of giggling frenzy in the cabin as if you'd been transported back to your last cafeteria food fight.
The performance of a sports car, the practicality of an SUV & the luxury of a high-end German vehicle = The ultimate ride. It's truly a blast to drive and can not compare to any other SUV on the road. If you love driving and you're about the journey and not just the destination, this is for you. If you want a driving couch and a numb experience, I recommend you shy away. The car has never been smoked in & no pets. It's in pristine condition and you will be impressed.

Take a POV hot lap in the Porsche 918 Spyder
Mon, 14 Apr 2014That title about says it all. This is a hot lap of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, with Porsche Works Driver Patrick Long at the wheel of a Porsche 918 Spyder. The camera is basically showing us everything that Long sees, making this not just one of the coolest 918 videos we've seen, but also one of the neatest laps of CoTA.
As Long peers through the bends, so will you. You'll see him fight the wheel, and find out just how difficult it is to hustle this hybrid hypercar around a world-class track at speed. It's pretty darn entertaining. There are also a few scattered shots of the 918's exterior just to break up the interior awesomeness, although we aren't exactly complaining about those. Take a look below for the short video from Porsche.
Porsche Macan spied, all lit up and dodging flurries
Thu, 17 Jan 2013We've seen the upcoming Porsche Macan testing on surface roads and even on the Nürburgring, but here we have our first spy shots showing a disguised prototype doing some winter testing in snowy conditions. Still obscured by plenty of camouflage attempting to mimic its larger Cayenne sibling, we still can't get a clear look at what the Macan's face and rump are going to look like, although it does appear that some details for the front lighting are starting to emerge.
Below the headlights, those are obviously decals trying to look like turn signal lenses, but it appears that there is still some sort of lighting being hidden judging by the small circles cut into the camo. Lower in the fascia, we can also see there are LED running lights not revealed on past prototypes. The entire rear end of this Macan prototype still appears to be tacked-on camo, but the side view appears to be in production form save for the poorly disguised rear quarter windows.
As we've seen in the past, Porsche engineers are still testing the Macan alongside the Audi Q5 with which it shares its platform. There has been no word as to when we could expect to see the Macan in production or concept form, but we'd have to guess that this compact crossover is getting ready to shed its camo very soon.
The 2013 Rolex 24-hour race at Daytona comes down to the last hour [spoilers, w/video]
Mon, 28 Jan 2013It took 24 hours to run the race, but it was the last one was stuffed with the high action as four cars were still trying to figure out how to gain victory on the track and in the pits. Along with the obligatory crashes, spins, mechanical issues and retirements had come numerous penalties, a double-digit number of full-course yellows and two hours of fog that turned early Sunday morning into a stretch of parade laps.
The final hour would make up for the morning - drivers who might have been happy just to get on the podium had a shot at victory as the end of the race approached, and that turned into a few gambles that paid off, and at least one that didn't...
