Porsche introduced its Cayenne sport utility vehicle in early 2003. Like the stimulating pepper of the same name, this luxury midsize SUV ranks as a hot number — especially the Cayenne Turbo, which has a 450-horsepower twin-turbo V-8.

All Cayennes have permanent all-wheel drive, an inter-axle differential lock and switch-activated Low-range gearing. The Porsche Stability Management system is standard.

Exterior
Even though the Cayenne's styling is distinctive, its front end is reminiscent of the automaker's 911 sports car. Like the 911, the Cayenne exhibits what Porsche calls "taut lines and tight curves that communicate a feeling of elegance and speed."

The Cayenne Turbo gets additional front air inlets, power domes on the hood and a quartet of tailpipes. The Turbo's pneumatic suspension adjusts to six ground-clearance levels, from 6.18 to 10.75 inches.

Interior
Seating for up to five people on leather seating surfaces is standard. Front and rear parking assistance is included. Cargo capacity totals 19.1 cubic feet and expands to 62.5 cubic feet when the backseat is folded.

Under the Hood
The Cayenne Turbo use 4.5-liter V-8s that team with a six-speed-automatic transmission that incorporates a manual-shift provision. With its bi-turbo setup, the Cayenne Turbo's V-8 produces 450 hp and 460 pounds-feet of torque.

Porsche claims the Cayenne Turbo can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Towing capacity is 7,716 pounds.

Safety
Seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side curtain-type airbags are standard.

Driving Impressions
Cayenne V-8 models are refined, civilized and muscular. Acceleration from a standstill is downright startling in the Cayenne Turbo. Tiptronic shifts are barely noticeable, especially in the upper gears. You may feel a bit of motion transmitted from the road in Sport mode, but control is unaffected.

The Cayenne's handling could hardly be better. Reactions are quick and confident. The seats are firm, with snug bolstering and long bottoms for superior thigh support.

You are looking at a gorgeous 2006 Porsche Cayenne in MINT CONDITION! The car belongs to a surgeon from Ponte vedra Beach. Our client and a friend. He was the second owner and he had it since 23K miles. Warranty expired at 100K and prior to expiration, he had almost EVERYTHING worth mentioning replaced including BOTH NEW TURBOS. We have all documentation supporting that. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. The vehicle is mechanically sound and the interior looks nice. The engine sounds great, it handles and drives superbly and has no problem developing high speeds. Car runs straight as an arrow and tires do not pull in any direction. The car can be exported, transferred and registered in any state.

1983 Motorweek showdown pits Porsche 928S vs. Chevy Camaro Z28

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Last month, Motor Trend threw the Camaro Z/28 and Porsche 911 GT3 into the bear pit and let them fight it out. Way back in 1983, MotorWeek had the same idea, comparing the Camaro Z/28 to the Porsche 928S. At the time, the Camaro was America's best selling sports coupe, the 928S was Porsche's top-of-the-line model that also had the highest top speed of any car sold here. And the price differential was even more stark then: $13,600 for the Camaro, $45,000 for the Porsche. That put the Z/28's cast-iron, 5.0-liter V8 with 190 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque against the all-aluminum 4.7-liter V8 with 234 hp and 263 lb-ft in the 928S. Even with that and the Camaro being 14 inches longer than the Porsche, the American was a surprising 40 pounds lighter than the German. The show took them to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to see how close a relative performance bargain could hang with a the German GT. Both had five-speed manual transmissions, but the high-speed corners and tight sections of Summit Point would test other handling variables, including the "bone-rattling" Camaro's solid rear axle and disc and drum brake setup vis-a-vis the four-wheel disc brakes and independent suspension on the "firm-but-smooth" Porsche. Paradoxically, the larger disparity 22 years ago resulted in a closer result. Check out the video to see how the Summit was won. 2014 Porsche Panamera 4S Executive

Fri, 09 Aug 2013

If the idea of a Porsche sedan (or, long hatchback) is still off-putting to you, then you might want to look away now. For 2014, the polarizing Panamera has received a midcycle refresh bringing slightly different styling, as well as adding two new models to the lineup, the S E-Hybrid and the stretched-wheelbase Executive. Having focused most of my recent trip to Germany on a First Drive of the intriguing plug-in Panamera, I also got to spend some time with the roomier Executive model.
Offered in both 4S and Turbo guise, the Panamera Executive has been stretched by almost six inches for the sole purpose of improving rear passenger space. Although it's hard to imagine anyone would willingly buy a Porsche and opt to sit in the back seat, I'd have to say that if I'm going to be chauffeured around in a car, why not make it a Porsche? For the most part, though, I'm guessing that many Panamera Executive sedans will be owned by people who want to one-up their buddy driving a stretched BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Driving Notes:

Porsche to only build next Panamera in Leipzig?

Sun, 06 Oct 2013

Manufacture of the next-generation Porsche Panamera could be moving, if a report from Reuters is true. The current-generation Panamera range has its bodies welded together and painted at a Volkswagen facility in Hanover before being shipped to Leipzig where final assembly takes place.
According to Reuters, Porsche is looking to cut VW out of the equation and focus production of the Panamera in Leipzig. While this could cost 800 of the 14,300 workers at Hanover their jobs, it's not entirely clear what Porsche stands to gain by the move. It recently invested 50- million euros (about $680 million at today's rates) on a paint and body shop for its Leipzig factory, ostensibly so the facility could have Macan production underway by that car's spring 2014 on-sale date. If the facility was also designed with next-generation Panamera production in mind, then Porsche's decision to put all of its eggs in one basket could make a lot of sense. It currently ships the semi-completed Panameras from Hanover to Leipzig, a distance of around 160 miles by road, and presumably it's a costly and time-consuming process.
The Leipzig factory produced 27,000 Panameras last year, although it's unclear just what its production capacity really is. Besides the Panamera and the upcoming Macan, the factory also builds the Porsche Cayenne.
