The premium tires and battery have <1000 miles on them and are <4 months old. The plastic piece that connects to the gas cap has broken but the gas cap is 100% functional. The trunk hydraulics do not work so you have to hold up the trunk for access. There are minor scratches on the driver side behind the rear door but they can be easily buffed out and are very very shallow ~ 1/50th inch deep, it is purely cosmetic. The front seats show wear for the normal amount of wear for the years but the leather is not broken. The back seats are pretty much new as very few people ever sat there. Turning signal warning appears at times but mechanic found no problems. The interior upholstery on the roof near the trunk is sagging a little bit."

This car has been my baby since I received it. It has been given all the love and care that I could have given it. I have been the 1 and only sole owner of it. It is a silver 2005 Porsche Cayenne S with 45,000 miles on it. The reason for the very very low miles is that while I was at college during 2007-2011 I left my car at home. My dad took care of all the maintenance and drove it at least 20 minutes every week to keep everything in perfect condition. No one was allowed to eat or drink in it while I was driving and had to take off their shoes if they had even the remotest amount of dirt on them.
The condition of this car is used but I have tried to keep it in the best working condition but there are some things that happened along the way. There are some scratches on all the 19" premium rims but in no way does this affect the performance. These range from very light to about 1/20th of an inch deep. The tires on the other hand are almost brand new Sumitomo Sport tires with <1000 miles on them and <4 months old along with the battery which was changed at the same time. The plastic piece that connects the gas cap to the car has broken but the gas cap is in perfect functional order. The hydraulics that keep the trunk up once opened no longer work so you have to manually hold up the trunk when opening it but I have found no problem with this. There are minor scratches on the driver side behind the rear door that are very shallow around 1/50th inch deep that could easily be buffed out, but its purely cosmetic and when the car is clean will probably not even notice them. The front seats do show the normal wear on them but they are 100% functional and the leather has not broken, so while they don't look to be brand new, they also do not look old. The rear seats are in very very good condition because I can almost count the amount of times that I have had people sit in the back of my car. Every once and a while the turning signal warning light comes on but my mechanic checked it out and says that nothing is wrong it is just something that sometimes happens with the Cayenne S. The interior upholstery in the trunk on the roof is sagging a bit and could use some work but other than that, the car is in perfect order. I have never had any problems with it and have been in ZERO ACCIDENTS so nothing should be wrong.
When it comes to accessories this car is fully loaded. The Bose speakers are amazing and through the front console you can manually change the bass, treble, and other audio levels. In the back you even have a multiple CD deck along with the single CD deck that you have in the front. The Premium Navigation works perfectly and has never steered me wrong, it even is connected to the LED display behind steering wheel so you do not even need to look at the GPS unit. I have ultimate control of what level of shocks that I want from comfort to sport, I can also manually change my car from highway to off-road mode, though I would never go off-roading with this car, it is too beautiful to get dirty. Along with control of the shocks the car has the factory hydraulics that with the flick of a button forward or backwards you can have the car raise or lower about 6 inches in either direction. Whether you are in sunny Florida or chilly Michigan the heated seats have always been a blessing on those cold days. The driver, front passenger and both left and right rear passenger seats have heated seats that they can manually control how hot they want their seats to get. Not only are the seats heated the driver and front passenger even have electronic seats that can move forward, backwards, up and down, and even include lumbar support for those long drives. The back has a towing package with a hitch mount that you can connect to if you ever want to tow anything. The telescopic steering wheel is perfect for anyone of any height that can easily be adjusted to come forward or pushed back to your personal comfort. When it comes to luxury, where would one be without the ability to have the wing flow through your hair along with a perfect view of the moon with a electronic moon roof.
It is killing me to sell this car because I have had it for so long and if there was any parking available where I am moving for medical school, I would have brought it, but alas, it is time to let someone else enjoy my baby.

eGarage video features Helmuth Bott's personal Porsche 959 prototype

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

"We thought we were going to build a super-911," said Peter Schutz, former CEO of Porsche AG of the development of the Porsche 959. That was before it started getting expensive. At that point, Helmuth Bott, Porsche R&D director got frightened. Costs ballooned because of the all-wheel drive, sequential turbocharging and other technology Porsche had never even thought about when it set out to build a 911 to compete in Group B. Schutz continued, "The amount of resources we were committing got totally out of hand." Instead of pulling the plug, Bott doubled down and drew on the strength of his brilliant team to build a car whose impact is still echoing aross the industry.
"It's probably one of our most prized possessions" says Don Leatherwood, Director of the Brumos collection where Dr. Bott's personal prototype resides, and where Frazer Spowart went to see the car and create a video for eGarage. Check out the sights and sounds of the 959 before it was the 959, and get personal takes on the car from Hurley Haywood, Peter Schutz and Don Leatherwood. Keep reading to see the video.

Porsche Macan fails moose test, Stuttgart responds

Tue, 14 Oct 2014

Different countries have different safety standards, but most of them revolve around a similar set of tests: front impact, side impact, offset impact, rollover... the usual. But Sweden has its own test. It's called the Moose Test (or the Elk Test), and it's unique to Scandinavia: a car has to be able to avoid a theoretical antlered mammal on the road while traveling at 43.5 miles per hour and return to its previous course without flipping over. The Jeep Grand Cherokee ran afoul of the uniquely Nordic maneuver a couple of years ago, but even more surprising is the way the Porsche Macan has reacted.
Under testing by Sweden's Teknikens Värld, Porsche's downsized crossover - specifically the Macan S Diesel, for what it's worth - didn't flip over, but it skidded off course. In real-world conditions, it follows, the vehicle could run off the road or into oncoming traffic. The testers ran the test several times, and even removed excess weight from the vehicle, and each time it reacted the same way.
In response, Porsche has explained that the behavior is the result of its Active Rollover Protection system kicking in. When the system detects that the vehicle could drastically oversteer, flip over or lose its tire, it momentarily applies the brake on the front outside wheel, allowing the vehicle to shed the cornering forces without losing it completely.

2014 Porsche 911 Targa takes its crop-top off in Motor City

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

Back in 1965, Porsche invented the 911 Targa as a matter necessity. Believing that a finicky National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was prepared to outlaw convertibles, the innovative automaker created the half-open car as a way to keep wind rushing through owners' hair. Though far removed from those formative days, it seems as though the 2015 Porsche 911 Targa has come to the Detroit Auto Show with a new-school version of some old-school tech.
While the last Targa featured a trick sliding glass roof at the touch of the button, the new car dramatically swallows a traditional-looking panel via an exceptionally complex-looking mechanical operation. The net result is "the same fun factor and freedom" that can be had with a complete convertible, though with slightly more open-driving protection while underway.
And, as is the case with all of the current 911 range, getting underway can be done with reasonable rapidity. The entry-level Targa 4 rocks a 350-horsepower, 3.4-liter flat-six engine just behind the rear axle, making that car good for 175 miles per hour at the top end (with the seven-speed manual, 174 mph with PDK) and a 0-to-60 sprint of 4.6 seconds. The Targa 4S, meanwhile, offers 400 horsepower from 3.8-liters of boxer six, runs to 60 in 4.2 seconds and hits a top "track speed" of 183 mph.
