1994 Porsche 968 Cabriolet

Polar Silver, Medium Gray Leather Interior, Black Convertible Top, 40,500 miles, see Options Sticker Photo - Absolutely no work required on this car

This car is in immaculate condition (as evidenced by the photos) and is near concours condition (if not already).  I have owned it for the past 15 years (I’m the second owner) and have put less than 6,000 miles on it.   It has been garaged and stored in winters and has not even been driven in the rain since I bought it.  No one has driven it but me as I had planned on keeping it forever but as most Porsche owners experience, space has run out as I have 3 Porsches now.  This was my first 968 after owning four 944s (which were my daily drivers).  I’ve been a PCA member for over 25 years and truly appreciate these cars.  This one is an outstanding color combination and has been meticulously maintained.

It is completely original except for:

·         B&B Cat Back Exhaust – Stainless Steel – cost over $1600.00

·         Gemballa 3 Piece Wheels with Yokohama Performance Tires with less than 3000 miles (see photos) – cost over $6000.00

·         Professionally installed sound system (ABT Electronics) – Kenwood Head unit, Xtant Amplifier, MB Quart 2-Way, 4 Piece speakers with crossovers, low pass filters, high-end wires – cost over $4000.00

I still have the original Cup Wheels with Yokohama tires, original head unit and the original cat back exhaust and muffler all in great shape.

Mechanicals:

·         Complete tuning with all new fluids: engine, transmission, antifreeze, etc. less than 2000 miles ago

·         Distributor cap, wires and thermostat have less than 5000 miles

·         New timing chain (preventative due to age) at 38,000 miles

·         Brakes have less than 7000 miles on them and bearings were repacked at the same time

·         Only Mobil 1 synthetic oil utilized since my acquisition

·         Engine and mechanicals (other than exhaust) are 100% original.  There have been no breakdowns or repairs made to this engine or drive train other than preventative.

The car runs phenomenal, it sounds amazing with the B&B, the transmission is outstanding and overall this car is an 11 out of 10.

Exterior:

The entire vehicle is original with no body work, no paint, no fading and there are no dings anywhere.  There are 2 small stone chips on the hood that can easily be repaired.  The wheels flawless as they are brand new and tires still have the nubs as they have less than 3000 miles on them.  The black convertible top is still like new with no fading, no tears and no leaks.  Like most all cabs, the back vinyl window, while not faded, has surface scratches that can be buffed out.  The electric convertible top mechanism works perfect.

Interior:

The medium grey leather sport seat interior is outstanding with no scuffs, tears, abrasions and limited to no creases.  The dashboard is perfect with no cracks.  I had custom seat covers made for the car (see photos) which have been on the car at all times to protect the leather seats.  The covers are a waterproof wetsuit material and will come with the car.  All of the lights, gauges and electronics are in perfect working order.  As noted above, I had a professionally installed, high-end sound system put into the car (which I will sorely miss).  See photos.

Other:

Please email me with any questions.   As a long time PCA member and long time EBay member with 100% rating, I value honesty and integrity.  The car is listed elsewhere across the US and so I reserve the right to terminate the auction at any time.  Test drives only for serious bidders.  Although it goes without saying, so there's no confusion, this vehicle is being sold "as-is".  Verbal agreements on price / purchase must be followed up via payment on a priority basis or other buyers may take precedence.  I have many additional photos if desired.

The vehicle is located in a northwest suburb of Chicago 10 minutes from O'Hare airport.  I will provide transportation to/from O'Hare for visits but the buyer will need to arrange for pickup/shipping of the vehicle at his/her own expense.  A $500 deposit via PayPal is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction with no exceptions and I will reject the winning bid if that deposit is not made on time.  Balance of purchase price is due with seven (7) days of the end of the auction.

Thank you very much for looking!!!

On Oct-16-13 at 12:01:13 PDT, seller added the following information:

I'm so confident that this vehicle is better than its description that if for any reason the winning bidder is not completely satisfied with this vehicle upon inspection, I will promptly refund his/her deposit without question.

Porsche 911 tops a list of must-have classics, but No. 2 is more of a surprise

Wed, Aug 9 2023

No surprise here: In Europe, the Porsche 911 is the most sought-after classic car. Surprise here: Slip-streaming the 911 in the most sought-after chart compiled by the Car & Classic marketplace is the Ford Mustang. Using the Google search engine as a means to pick the winners, as well as the average prices achieved on the “Car and Classic” website, the venerable 911 was tagged 1.45 million times per month according to data stretching back 15 years. The number of 911Â’s sold though the C&C marketplace was 21,141, at an average price of 58,409 pounds, or $74,300. FordÂ’s pony car, still a popular choice for buyers in Europe, placed second on the list with 1.2 million monthly searches. The average sales price over 15 years was 31,107 pounds ($39,570), and the number of older Mustangs sold reached a total of 8,332. Models that also finished among the charted top 10 include the Land Rover Range Rover, the Corvette, the ultra-classic British favorite Jaguar E-Type and the BMW 3 Series. “Whilst a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS could set you back the best part of GBP500,000 ($636,000), there are many more affordable models, which bring the average sale price of a 911 on Car & Classic to GBP58,000 ($73,800) – the third highest average selling price of any make and model on the site,” explained Dale Vinten of Car & Classic. According to the site, the Jaguar fetched the highest average selling price: a whopping 89,000 pounds, or $113,000. But thatÂ’s peanuts compared to a Series 1 Roadster in excellent condition, said Vinten. For that, “you can expect to spend up to GBP250,000 ($318,000), A Series 2 or 3 will cost less, as they are not as desirable, but in decent condition you can expect to pay around GBP40,000-GBP50,000. Even a barn find 1969 E-Type Series 2 Roadster can set you back to the tune of GBP33,000 ($42,000)." Launched in 2005, Car & Classic is among EuropeÂ’s most popular classic car clearinghouses. It also runs a stand-alone auction site.

Porsche undecided on new 911 GT2 [w/poll]

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

Fans of hardcore 911s had it pretty good with the last 997 generation. There was the GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2 and GT2 RS (pictured above). Each one was faster, more powerful and more expensive than the one below it, but what they all shared was what Porsche purists love most: rear engine, rear drive, a manual transmission and little else.
So far with the new 991, Porsche has only released a GT3 version. Sure, there have been other models, but they're all decidedly more luxurious and less performance-focused. And as impressive a machine as the new GT3 is, it has run the risk of alienating some of its most ardent fanatics with technological interference in the form of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel steering. So what those purists have really been looking forward to is a more hardcore GT3 RS or new GT2. But those may not be coming so quickly.
Speaking with 911 project chief August Achleitner, Car and Driver reports that a new GT2 is anything but a foregone conclusion. The reasons may be partially political, but could be technical in nature as well: with 560 horsepower driving all four wheels, the new 911 Turbo S runs the 0-60 in less than three seconds. Give it more power but less traction, as Porsche has done with past GT2s, and you may not end up seeing an actual improvement in performance. A GT2 that's slower than the Turbo S would be difficult to explain.

Nick Murray's problematic Porsche 911 shows the power of a viral video

Fri, 18 Apr 2014

When Nick Murray took delivery of his 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S in June 2013, he had saved for it for the past five years. He didn't just pluck a random 911 off a dealer lot. He specially ordered his car with thousands of dollars in extras tailored just to him, and he captured all of the options on his YouTube channel. The love affair didn't last long. Eventually the channel became a place for Nick to air his growing list of grievances about his deteriorating 911. Eventually, his mix of righteous indignation and sarcasm went viral.
By late December, he had already had four warranty repairs done on the car. Things got much worse in March. The computers began resetting whenever Nick drove over large bumps. There was also an acrid, electrical smell that occasionally permeated the cabin. Murray filed for Lemon Law protection. Porsche Cars North America contacted him for the first time to fix the problem, but it didn't help.
Things culminated in April when Murray put up a new video that showed more troubles. He began arbitration with Porsche and asked for either his full purchase price back or an exact replacement. The company countered with a portion of what the car was worth, based on its mileage. Murray refused and turned to his YouTube watchers for help. He asked them to spread the word, and the video went viral with over 800,000 views as of this writing. Supporters posted it multiple times on Porsche's Facebook and Twitter sites.
