Early 1985 Porsche 944 Base Coupe 2-door 2.5l on 2040-cars
Roseville, California, United States
FUN FUN FUN FUN car! This car is NOT fast...but shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear is probably my favorite driving experience. I've read that the 944 may be the best handling car ever made and that's probably stretching it a bit...but this car is FUN to drive for sure! This is an "Early 1985" Porsche 944. This car was purchased on Ebay 3 years ago from a seller in Arizona. After buying this from Arizona, I had it shipped to Washington to my house where it was subsequently taken to a Porsche dealership in Seattle. I had all the hoses and belts (not timing belt) replaced, and the car was checked from bumper to bumper. I spend $2k on miscellaneous repairs and belt/hose replacements. The interior is in very good condition. The seats are also in very good condition, although I added premium sheep-skin covers to protect them (the $200 a piece kind of covers, OMG you'll love them). I also spent almost $2k installing a new radio and custom pods/door speakers. I added a premium leather steering wrap and a bra. It also has professionally tinted windows ($500 job). Shortly after purchase, I shipped the car to a family member's house in sunny California to keep it in a warm, rust-free garage. It has 96,204 original miles as of the time this was written. It runs good and it was driven from Sacramento to Los Angeles recently without any problems whatsoever. It gets about 26 mpg on the highway. The car has power everything (windows, side mirrors, moonroof, pop up headlights) which is kind of ahead of its time for 1985. The body is in very good condition with a few small chips in the hood, and a few very minor door dings. The windshield has a small chip on the driver's side. The chip is a bit annoying and you may want to replace the windshield...or you may look past it and not have a problem with it. As with a car this age, there are a few minor issues: * The A/C needs recharging. The fan/blower works fine. Heater works fine. Windshield wipers work fine. Lights/headlights work fine. Clutch is smooth and it shifts smoothly. * The passenger window has a new motor/wiring by the Porsche dealership, but the window rocker switch on the driver's door broke and it will not roll down presently. * The dash has some minor cracks, but it is in amazingly good condition for its age. * The tires show some aging on the sidewalls, but the tread is good and appears to have well over half their tread left. * Although the car is currently in CA in the 95661 zip, the car is not registered in CA, nor has it ever been smogged in CA. If the car is sold to a CA buyer, the buyer understands that the car may not currently meet CA smog requirements, even though it is in stock condition. The car currently has Law Enforcement Memorial plates and is tagged in WA. Plates will be removed after sale. I see that a lot of people use 944s for club racing so...maybe this is how she'll finally end up? Note that the 2nd owner only had the car less than a year. According to him, the car was owned by a female real estate agent who loved the car (that much is obvious) and he bought it in an estate sale. So this is basically a 2-owner car. Also note that the car DID pass smog in Arizona 4 times (but because WA doesn't require a smog certificate for a car this old there was no reason to smog it). Will it pass CA smog? No idea. Let's assume that it won't so if you plan on registering this is California BUYER BEWARE. I assume NO liability regarding its smog-ability in CA or any other state. Buyer must pick up or have carrier pick up car in the 95661 zip code. Buyer pays ALL shipping costs and seller assumes no responsibility after carrier takes possession. There are many carriers to choose from and I was extremely satisfied with the transport process when this car was shipped to me. After the sale, we can exchange phone numbers and make arrangements. Please expect to make full payment within 3 days of end of sale. I would prefer a personal check to save some PayPal fees (look at my feedback and be assured you'll get the car after the check clears) OR we can add the PayPal fees to the final bid...whatever that ends up being. You will then choose a transport carrier and pay them directly. If you have zero feedback or some negative feedback, please do NOT bid on this car. Thanks for respecting that. This car wasn't meant to be stored in a garage. Buy it, enjoy it, and turn heads driving down the road! It's amazing how many people have given me the thumbs up and I was just minding my own business. 944s are cool, plain and simple and this car handles like a DREAM. |

McLaren rules out Porsche Cayman competitor
Mon, Nov 30 2015McLaren has gone downmarket with the introduction of its new Sports Series, but don't expect it to go any lower than that. So while the 570S goes up against the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 Turbo, the likes of the TT and Cayman can rest easy. Speaking with Autocar, McLaren designer Robert Melville ruled out the prospect of developing a sports car positioned lower than the Sports Series. Melville dismissed the idea of a Cayman rival from Woking as "a step too far" and "not exclusive enough" for McLaren. "You look at Ferrari. They are coming from very high end. [The 570S] is stretching us down to R8s and 911s and is as low as we'd want to come." The limit may be dictated, more than anything, by the building blocks. The newly introduced Sports Series adopts the same essential hard points as the higher-end Super Series (650S) and Ultimate Series (P1). Like its more expensive siblings, it features a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and bolted to the back of a carbon monocoque chassis. Only instead of selling for $265k like the 650S or over $1 million like the P1, the 570S will retail for under $190k. Volume is how the manufacturer aims to make up the difference. In fact McLaren stands to generate as much revenue (if not necessarily the same profit margin) selling 2,500 units in the Sports Series each year as it has producing all 375 examples of the P1. Making those same building blocks available at a lower price point – or developing an entirely new set – would be an entirely different proposition... one which McLaren is evidently less than keen to undertake. So while we can look forward to new versions of the Sports Series to follow – including Spider and GT variants soon to follow – more commonplace stablemate appears to be off the table. Porsche 919 Hybrid revives Porsche's factory Le Mans efforts
Tue, 04 Mar 2014After months of teasing with camouflaged testers, Porsche has finally unveiled its prototype entry for the 2014 World Endurance Championship, the 919 Hybrid. Porsche, you may recall, hasn't had campaigned a factory team at Le Mans in years, so the 919 is nothing less than their recommitment to endurance racing.
Combining a 2.0-liter V4 (yes, a V4) that revs to 9,000 rpm, the 919 produces around 500 horsepower with a pair of energy recovery systems. The first system recovers the heat energy from exhaust gasses as they pass through an electrical generator, while the second system is a bit more familiar. Using a setup similar to what is found on the production 918 Spyder, a generator on the front axle recovers kinetic energy from the brakes, which is subsequently stored in a battery system. That power can then be sent to the front wheels at the driver's command, effectively turning the 919 into an all-wheel-drive racecar.
Despite these various forms of motivation, Porsche doesn't claim to be seeking outright power supremacy, with Chairman Matthias Müller saying, "In 2014, it will not be the fastest car that wins the World Endurance Championship series and the 24 hours of Le Mans, rather it will be the car that goes the furthest with a defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that carmakers must overcome. The 919 Hybrid is our fastest mobile research laboratory and the most complex race car that Porsche has ever built."
Bentley tests next next-gen Flying Spur on Porsche Panamera Turbo body
Fri, Oct 21 2016At first glance, the prototype in the gallery above looks like a blacked-out version of the new Porsche Panamera Turbo. But this is actually Bentley's tester for the next-gen Flying Spur. And since the upcoming Flying Spur, among other Bentley vehicles, will utilize the same MSB platform as the new Porsche, seeing the British automaker using a Panamera makes a lot of sense. The Flying Spur is essentially a four-door version of the Continental GT, which has design cues from the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It's safe to assume that the next-gen Flying Spur will get the same treatment as well. Other than the fender flares, the prototype is identical to the Panamera Turbo. So how do we know that this is Bentley's prototype? According to our photographers, the prototype's license plate is registered as a Bentley with the UK's Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. With the Flying Spur sharing the same platform as the Panamera, we expect the luxury sedan to get the same choice of engines, including the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. A concept is anticipated to come out in 2017 with a production variant coming a year later.
