1991 Porsche 944 S2 Convertible 2-door 3.0l on 2040-cars

Year:1991 Mileage:170821
Location:

Olathe, Kansas, United States

Olathe, Kansas, United States

Up for sale is a 1991 944 S2 cabriolet.  1991 was the final year for the 944 before the launch of the 968, and this one of only 562 for the US market in 1991. Total US production for 90-91 was less than 2,400. I have enjoyed owning this car for 5 years, as was my daily driver until I started working from home last year.  Car has been well kept, runs and drives great.  The car is equipped with power windows, locks, and top, plus cruise control.  All power options, a/c & heat work, and I added an Alpine AM/FM CD player with Bluetooth.

The paint is in good shape with a few small chips.  Prior to my ownership some paint work was done behind the passenger door and there are some very small rust bubbles.  Would be very easy to sand and paint (see picture for detail).  Top is an aftermarket replacement of unknown age, and has visible wear, but rear window is clear.

The interior is in okay condition.  Dash is in great shape (see picture) but passenger seat has a seam separation across the bottom.  Air bags have been removed, but will be included with the sale.  Car comes with original top boot, tool kit, air compressor & all books with factory pouch.

Upgrades and maintenance:

  • Koni adjustable shocks were installed with M030 caster blocks at 132k
  • Autopower Roll Bar
  • Front strut brace
  • Momo Prototipo steering wheel
  • Rod bearings, timing belt, balancer belt at 153k
  • Cap, rotor, & plugs at 169k
  • Yokohama S-drive tires - rears have less than 5k on them
  • Oil changes every 3-5k, and injectors cleaned last year

There is a recent problem with the car.  It has begun to use coolant.  No visible smoking, but I have to assume its a problem with the head gasket.  As I mentioned, the car runs and drives great, pulls strongly through the rev range with no problems, but I do not know the cause of the issue.  This is a great commuter car, fun in the summer, and great for autocross events.  Would a great candiate for an LS swap if you wanted more power.

Thank you for your consideration, and please contact me with any questions at 913-486-2006.

There is a deposit of $500, payable only via PayPal. Deposit is required within 48hrs of auction close. Final payment and delivery/shipping arrangements made at the completion of this sale.  I reserve the right to end the auction early as I have the car for sale locally.

Which is quicker in the standing mile, a Subaru WRX STI or a Porsche Cayman?

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

The 2015 Subaru WRX STI and 2014 Porsche Cayman are both saddled with unfair reputations. The STI with its huge wing and gold wheels has the title of the ultimate boy-racer. On the other hand, Porsche brand snobs look down on he base Cayman as just a wannabe 911. In reality, they are both pretty fantastic performance cars. But what would happen if the two of them lined up at a stoplight, and maybe the guy in the suit in the Cayman started throwing some revs at the young man in the STI? Automobile decided to find out in a recent video pitting the two stereotyped hot rods against each other in a standing-mile drag race.
In terms of raw numbers, they are surprisingly close. Both use flat engines and six-speed manual transmissions here, but the Subaru has more power and torque. However, the Porsche makes up for it with 300 pounds less weight. Neither should have a problem with traction either thanks to the STI's sophisticated all-wheel-drive setup, and the Cayman's mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
The comparable specs certainly show themselves in the real world for the race. We're not going to give away the winner here because it's too exciting, but let's just say the finish is very, very close. Scroll down to watch both of them shrug off their stereotypes and show off their real performance.

Father-son team grows close by building tuned Porsche

Mon, 21 Jul 2014

We've seen several heartwarming videos of kids bonding over cars with their parents, whether racing together or giving them as gifts. The story of Leh Keen and his father McGrath, though, is somewhat different. Not many dads are looking for a vehicle quite this mental.
As Leh tells it, his dad saw a video online of one of the wild Porsches from Japanese tuner Rauh-Welt Begriff and decided that he needed one of the creations in his own garage. Since Leh knows something about cars himself as a driver for Alex Job Racing in the United SportsCar Championship, McGrath put his son in charge of managing the build from the company.
When the car made it to the US for completion from Rauh's famed builder Nakai, father and son bonded over the red, widebody 993-platform 911. The final product is certainly eye-catching. Scroll down to watch the video that features not only an engrossing father-son tale but also a seriously wicked, tuned Porsche from one of Japan's finest.

Porsche 911 Targa leaks out ahead of Detroit debut

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

With the doors of Cobo Center opening for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Porsche is set to reveal its new 911 Targa in a matter of hours. But before it gets the chance, the first batch of images have already leaked out, courtesy of Chinese car site autohome.com.cn.
As expected, the new Targa appears to ditch the complex sliding glass roof panels that adorned recent versions of the semi-convertible 911 in favor of a more back-to-basics approach. An entirely removable roof panel opens up the sky, backed by a metallic B-pillar hoop in front of a large curved-glass rear window.
We'll have to wait just a little longer for the full scope of images and all the official details, but we're expecting the new Targa to carry most of the same technical specifications as the 991 on which it's based. Watch this space for more.
