 Rare 1990 PORSCHE 944S2 Cabriolet

NO RESERVE AUCTION!

This is one of the rarest Porsche Convertibles built in the last 40 years (exception: Carrera GT)  and an undisputed future collectible with excellent investment potential. A small Number of approximately 2,402 were brought to the US from 1989 until 1991. Please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_944 . (This is why you never see them).   The 3.0 Liter engine was the largest cylinder Porsche had ever designed and allows for a very high revolution (RPM) and Torque, yet allowing very good gas mileage (20-29 MPG.) Putting out an impressive 208 HP, this 16 valve double overhead cam normally aspirated engine has a top speed of 159 mph, Dual airbags, Rack and pinion steering, 5 speed rear mounted transmission to allow proper 50/50 weight distribution on all tires, LARGE 4 wheel ventilated BREMBO disc brakes, Alpine CD player and a sticker price of $55,000.00 in 1990! Always a southern California car with no rust, never in any accidents, it is in great running condition, and is in need of a nothing but a new owner.

The good:
5 speed transmission with new clutch and torque tube installed by Dennis Sherman Independent Porsche in San Diego Californa in last 1500 miles.  Black leather Interior, new Black top with new rear window.  Strong motor with great compression, Cold AC recently serviced by Beck's Independent Porsche of Scottsdale Arizona, power windows, power door locks, Power steering, Good tires, good brakes (new rear break pads and E Brake pads), Drives perfectly straight down the road, All gauges work, intermitten wipers. electric trunk release.

The bad:
There is a small power steering leak (not bad enough to require immediate attention.) LED clock is broken.  The center glove box plastic hinge is broken. (I purchased a new one, which is included, but the dealer gave me the wrong 944 glove box so maybe you can return for the correct one)  The tachometer now works great but it was previously replaced with a professionally rebuilt display because the plastic gears had gone bad. see pic taken with car running.  Everything works perfect now. (This is normal for the gears to need to be replaced at this age) There is a rip in the bottom of the driver seat. see pic. (Included in the sale is another leather seat to replace the portion with the rip)

NADA Blue Book value on these cars (beings that only approx 2402 were ever brought to the US) is only $13000 to $19000.  NO RESERVE AUCTION.  You could own this Porsche for a lot less!

ABOUT THE
1990 Porsche 944 S2 16Ventiler Cabriolet:

In 1989 the 944 S2 16Ventiler was introduced, powered by a 211 PS (155 kW; 208 hp) normally aspirated, dual-overhead-cam 16-valve 3.0L version of the 944S engine. With a bore of 104 mm (4.1 in) and a stroke of 88 mm (3.5 in), it was the largest production 4-cylinder engine of its time. The 944S2 also received a revised transmission and gearing to better suit the 3.0-liter M44/41 powerplant. The 944S2 had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model. This was the first example of the use of an integrated front bumper, where the fender and hood profiles would merge smoothly with the bumper, a timeless design feature that has only now seen widespread adoption on the 1990 onward production cars. Performance was quoted as 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds (0–100 km/h 6.8 s), with a top speed of 240 km/h (150 mph) via manual transmission. In 1990 Porsche released the 944 S2 Cabriolet, a first for the 944 line which featured the cabriolet body built by ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg Germany. Porsche produced units for all markets including right-hand drive for the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. The 944r was raced around the world and in the British championship called the Porsche Motorsport Championship.  To this day, the 944S2 is a very popular track car due to its perfectly Balanced Weight Distribution and Light Weight to Engine Horse Power ratio. Production was limited to three years; 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Additional Information:

If you are looking for a timeless car that is unique, rare, and rivals the spirit of Ferrari and Lamborghini of that year, this is it. Clean, Collectible, Convertible ....and hey, it's a Porsche! What more could you want in the way of a great weekend car or daily driver. This beautiful black 944S2 has been very well maintained and has all the right options to get you to your destinations in style and comfort. Additional features and options include; 3.0L I4 Engine, 5 Speed, RWD, ABS Brakes, Front Airbags,  Fog Lights, Owners Manuals, Power Windows/Mirrors, Spare Tire, Tire Tools, Only 1,824  S2 Cabriolets were exported from Germany to the US in 1990. 24 years later it is not easy to find one still this nice!

Mechanically the car runs and drives as good as it looks. Powerful and smooth. Quiet. No leaks and no unusual noises. The clutch, transmission, and brakes all function perfectly.  All the engine rubber hoses are in excellent shape and flexible. (no dry rot)   The exhaust is stock and sounds good. Suspension is in excellent condition with adjustable rear Koni Shocks installed for better handling.

Handling is pure Porsche. No shakes, no shimmies, no rattles. Just rock solid fun. Excellent Factory Porsche 17 inch Turbo wheels which carry a wider stance and fill the wheel wells perfectly.

There are no major dents, scratches, dings, or stone chips in the body. (there are however a few very small scratches and stone chips that are not noticeable.)  This car has never been in an accident with the exception of a small dent in the quarter panel back in 1991.  This was professionally repaired by the Porsche Dealer in Beverly Hills California. The underside is as clean as the topside of the car. No rust at all, anywhere. This car has never seen winter, road salt, rain!

The convertible top is in excellent condition (paid $2,000.00). No wear and no tears. The back window is clear and perfect. The top is excellent and the tonneau cover is as new.

The interior has the leather upholstery option. It is in almost perfect condition with exception of the driver seat having a rip in the bottom. see pic. The dash has no cracks or fading.(always stored indoors) All of the switches and warning lights, instruments and controls work as new. The rear seat has never been used. And the passenger seat has no noticeable wear. The driver's seat is missing a small trim cover at the outer hinge. It does not affect the performance of the seat in any way. The power seat bolsters work perfectly, and the sliders and recliners work as new. The car has an after-market Alpine AM/FM/CD player. The speakers are upgraded. No holes or modifications have been made to the interior at all.

The heat and air conditioning systems work as they should. The cruise control, power windows, and door locks all work as great.

I am selling the car with a full tank of ethanol-free 91 Octane gasoline and a fresh service. It is ready to drive anywhere in the continental US or Canada.

Chris Harris gets filthy in a WRC-ready Porsche 911 RGT

Thu, Jan 15 2015

Last time we rode with Chris Harris we were shotgun in the tan leather seat of his used-yet-immaculate Ferrari FF. This time we're strapped into a black racing bucket of a filthy Porsche 911 rally car, one that led Harris to effuse, "I don't think I've driven a more exciting car this year, hypercars included." The thrills come courtesy of a 997-series Cup Car that's been reworked by Tuthill Porsche to run in the RGT-class rally series that will piggyback on five World Rally Championship and European Rally Championship races this year. It's not quite the Rothmans Dakar monster, but the RGT series gives privateers an affordable way into rallying with cars that look different and are different from one another. This one kept its 3.8-liter, 444-horsepower 997 Cup engine, but the 39-milllimeter restrictor drops that to about 350 hp. Beyond that are a new rollcage, gear ratios, suspension, fuel tank, underfloor protection and just about everything else. Said the man who built it, it cost "a lot, and it's still costing." But Harris says even though you "have to have your wits about you," it's a hoot to drive. And this is one of the few times you'll hear the phrase "What a tool!" used as a compliment. Check it out in the video above. News Source: Chris Harris on Cars via YouTube Motorsports Porsche Coupe Off-Road Vehicles Racing Vehicles Performance Videos fia rally WRC chris harris porsche 997

2015 Porsche Cayenne spotted with facelift

Wed, 03 Apr 2013

Although it's only been a few years since the current Porsche Cayenne was introduced, Porsche seems to be working on a midcycle update for its big SUV possibly in time to welcome the smaller Macan. As seen in these recent spy shots, it looks like the Cayenne will be getting a minor face- and butt-lift, but it's hard to say what other changes are in store or when the updated model will hit showrooms.
Up front, expect the Cayenne's new face to resemble what was just revealed on the 2014 Panamera, and we could also see this SUV using some of the new engines introduced on the Panamera including the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 or maybe even the E-Hybrid model. We're guessing that the new Cayenne could debut sometime next year likely for the 2015 model year. In the meantime, check out the gallery of spy shots above.

2015 Porsche Macan S

Thu, 31 Jul 2014

I'd be willing to bet that 99 percent of all Porsche Macan owners will never take their vehicle on a track or see any more off-roading than a dirt path to a summer cottage, yet I maintain that there is no better venue to explore the absolute outer limits of the automaker's newest small family transport than on a racing circuit and an off-road course. It's testing at each extreme of the vehicle's operating envelope, with both challenges requiring very different capabilities. With that in mind, and looking forward to dirty floor mats and corded tires, I jumped at the opportunity from Porsche to wring out its new Macan S at Willow Springs International Raceway, located in Southern California's high desert.
The range-topping Macan Turbo (base price $72,300 plus $995 destination), with its 400 horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 gets most of the glory these days. But many, including myself, would argue that its slightly less powerful sibling, the Macan S, is actually the pick of the new litter. Despite having 60 fewer horses under the hood and giving up six-tenths of a second in the sprint to 60 miles per hour, it costs a massive $22,400 less - money better spent on equipment that improves the crossover's ride comfort and capability, or perhaps a well-used Boxster for weekends.
Despite a reasonably attractive starting price of $49,900 (plus destination), very few Porsche buyers will leave the showroom with a base model. My Dark Blue Metallic Macan S tester was equipped with a slew of mechanical upgrades, including air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), Sport Chrono Package and 21-inch 911 Turbo Design wheels. A Premium Package and a few other miscellaneous options bloated its price to $69,870. That's a very steep price for the premium compact crossover segment, but it's still less than a base Macan Turbo.
