My name is Jason and I own R7 Racing & Restoration. I buy, sell, restore, modify, customize and race water cooled, front engine Porsches exclusively. I have owned somewhere near forty Porsches and presently have a dozen "water coolers." Some of them are track cars and others are cream puffy garage queens, But, once in a while that rare, special one comes along that I like enough to spend my free time dialing in and getting just right and then enjoying for a while. Well, this Turbo has been that car for the past year for me. It's the car I should probably keep, but I have two that need to go before I start building the first GTS car in November.
So, sadly, today I am offering for sale my 1987 951. She's Zermatt Silver on Oxblood Velour/Leather. The paint was resprayed before I bought the car and looks very good with a just couple of minor imperfections and the interior is also fresh and gorgeous at every corner. The silver highlights in the crushed velour corduroy seat insets make the inside bright and modern versus the typical Porsche burgundy. It was redone recently and is all like new.
The car rolls on staggered 16" phone dials with brand new Falken tires, 205/50R16 fronts and 225/50R16 rears. The rims have no curb rash, bends or dents, but have a few paint chips as pictured. They clean up nicely and do just fine on the car. I imagine they could be refinished, plasti-dipped or just sanded and sprayed in your garage, but function is foremost for me. Take a look and see what you think.
The car has a very nice Kenwood stereo with iPod/Sat/Android/HD capabilities and a small graphic display and three way Pioneer speakers all around. The power sunroof works just fine, as do the windows, mirrors, wipers, cruise control, all lights, fogs, squirters, etc... if it has a switch, it works - it's my personal car after all.
The car has the original lightweight aluminum spare, tool kit, books, sunroof cover and a bunch of nice extras. Of course, it has records of everything I am about to list that I have done to it in the past year. All of the work is less than 2000 miles old and most is in the last 300 miles.
When I bought the car last year it had about 187,000 miles on it. The prior owner started to get the car back together and was not successful in ever getting it running. He had it for five years and, while he had it titled, it was in and out of insurance and in and out of registration. Sad to say, but he was in over his head. I quickly got the car running and have driven it a little over 2,000 miles as I dialed it in. It now has 189,500ish. I began doing a little work to it and then "presold" it to a 944Online forum member. Prior to having committed the car to a buyer, I hadn't really decided what to do with it. I hadn't gotten to know her well enough just yet. However, once it was sold, I went into overdrive getting it mechanically perfect. I started at the bottom with rod bearings, a new oil pan gasket and motor mounts. Followed by new front seals, rollers and of course timing and balance shaft belts. The car got a full cooling overhaul with the radiator pulled, flushed, pressure tested and reinstalled with a new water pump, low temp thermostat, new low temp thermoswitch and new DME temp sender. The car runs at the first line all the time. I then hit both sides and did new oil cooler seals and new AOS seals. I put 1,000 miles on the car and still had a little bit of blow-by in the intake and turbo plumbing so I sent a turbo to G-Pop shop and had the guys clip the turbo and hone the exhaust port to emulate a 26/8 turbo.
When the turbo came back, it went in with a new head gasket, a bunch of silicone vacuum, a new cycling valve and a LR boost enhancer. The car now brings in boost about 2000 RPM and builds up to about 1.7-1.8 bar. I have it set to run at about between 1-1.4 bar or 14-20lbs. It is smooth as silk and has virtually no lag compared to a stock turbo. The car is an absolute rocket ship. It has a stainless ANSA exhaust and sounds as great as it runs. It has a clean NJ inspection (legit, from a state center not one I bought) good until April of 2015. Passed on her first try. She runs very clean with all new seals and a fresh turbo.
So, after I did all the work to get the car just right, the sale, unfortunately fell apart as the buyer had some problems at home and with another car and I had this perfect car on my hands, so I registered and insured the car and have been really enjoying it - making little tweaks and tunes for the last four months. As I said, mostly everything is new. Biggest deal is the fresh Turbo, but let's not discount the head gasket and everything up, rod bearings, pan gasket, motor mounts, AOS seals, oil cooler seals, front seals and rollers, water pump, thermostat, and of course belts. Just last week, I also put new stainless fuel lines as well as the feeder from the end of the rail to the regulator and PBR semi-metallic brake pads at all four corners as well as new wear-sensors. This car is good for 30,000 trouble-free miles. If it were red it would be my wife's Christmas present. It's that nice.
I will list this car locally as well as in Excellence, Panorama, Cars.com and of course on the 944 specialty forums, so I expect it will sell quickly. I reserve the right to end this auction at any time accordingly. The car is available for viewing and test drives in NJ by appointment, I can deliver the car reasonable distances and help make arrangements for longer trips.
Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit. If you're on the fence for a 944 Turbo do not hesitate. This car is unbelievable. There is nothing else you can have in its price range that will deliver as much bang for the buck. I'm proud to offer it as prepared by my company, R7 Racing.

German carmakers recall 630,000 diesel vehicles in Europe
Fri, Apr 22 2016Mercedes, Opel, Porsche, and Volkswagen will recall over 630,000 cars in Europe, according to reports Friday. No diesel car has been able to get under the legal emissions limit in real-world driving, according to a German government investigation. While only Volkswagen Group has been using a specific "defeat device", other carmakers have been playing with their exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. Depending of the manufacturer, the systems have been cut off at a certain temperature. In a specific test cycle the systems operate to fulfill the legal requirements, but in everyday use the limits are exceeded. According to the magazine Der Spiegel, the supplier Bosch is behind this programming and has provided it to all German automakers. The mentioned carmakers have announced recalls, but many other manufacturers are also mentioned by name in the report, including Alfa Romeo, Chevrolet, Dacia, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Nissan, Renault, and Suzuki. PSA Group, which produces Peugeot, Citroen, and DS cars, declared yesterday that its offices were raided following an emissions investigation. Porsche 919 Hybrid revives Porsche's factory Le Mans efforts
Tue, 04 Mar 2014After months of teasing with camouflaged testers, Porsche has finally unveiled its prototype entry for the 2014 World Endurance Championship, the 919 Hybrid. Porsche, you may recall, hasn't had campaigned a factory team at Le Mans in years, so the 919 is nothing less than their recommitment to endurance racing.
Combining a 2.0-liter V4 (yes, a V4) that revs to 9,000 rpm, the 919 produces around 500 horsepower with a pair of energy recovery systems. The first system recovers the heat energy from exhaust gasses as they pass through an electrical generator, while the second system is a bit more familiar. Using a setup similar to what is found on the production 918 Spyder, a generator on the front axle recovers kinetic energy from the brakes, which is subsequently stored in a battery system. That power can then be sent to the front wheels at the driver's command, effectively turning the 919 into an all-wheel-drive racecar.
Despite these various forms of motivation, Porsche doesn't claim to be seeking outright power supremacy, with Chairman Matthias Müller saying, "In 2014, it will not be the fastest car that wins the World Endurance Championship series and the 24 hours of Le Mans, rather it will be the car that goes the furthest with a defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that carmakers must overcome. The 919 Hybrid is our fastest mobile research laboratory and the most complex race car that Porsche has ever built."
Porsche planning new 911 Speedster as 550 tribute
Tue, 12 Nov 2013Some look at the emergence of a new Porsche 911 and see a car. But to Porsche engineers, it might as well be a reset button. Because every time a new 911 comes out, it sets off a tidal wave of new variants to follow, including convertibles, turbos, targas, GT3s... the works.
The next down the pipeline, though, could be one of the most desirable. That, according to German publication Auto Bild, will be a new 911 Speedster. When it arrives early in 2015, the special roadster will reportedly be limited to just 550 examples in tribute to the original 550 Spyder.
It'll reportedly have hidden door handles, a chopped-down windshield and a fabric top to be used only in case of emergency, manually disappearing below a carbon-fiber cowling. All of which makes it sounds as much like a bigger version of the Boxster Spyder as a successor to the last 911 Speedster (pictured above), and that's no bad thing at all.
