1987 Porsche 944 S Almond Beige Metallic with dark brown interior, 110k miles, 5 speed manual. Exceptionally well preserved example of the 2 year only 16 Valve model. Two owners, always garaged, properly maintained, exclusively highway/rural driven. Performing condition corresponds to a car with half the mileage. Everything works (odometer/sunroof/clock/hatch release/cruise control and all else that usually does not after 27 years) sans a/c. Factory upgrades of the S model are revised high compression 16 Valve engine, enhanced suspension, brakes and gearbox. Additional enhancements factory fitted 3 piece BBS RS 16x7 and 16x8 wheels (with correct 205 and 225 tires), Koni yellow adjustable shocks, k&n air filter, factory 363mm steering wheel. Timing/balance shaft belts and water pump done 12k miles ago, recent cap, rotor, spark plug wires, battery. Wear on shift knob/center arm rest/dash cracks (all visible in the photographs), hood shocks weak, will need rear brake pads and has original motor mounts. All manuals, all keys, complete tool kit and non-Porsche air compressor. I am a long time Porsche enthusiast, pca member and have owned several "front" engine Porsche's from this vintage including a low mileage Turbo S and a 28k mile S2 coupe - this car is comparable in all aspects (even to the 28k mile S2). Porsche announces four flavors of updated Cayenne [w/video]
Thu, 24 Jul 2014The new Macan may be getting all the attention lately, but Porsche hasn't forgotten about its larger crossover - the one that put it on the map in 2002 and on the road to profitability, with over half a million sold so far. So to keep the Cayenne at the top of its game, Porsche has announced several key upgrades for the 2015 model.
For starters, Porsche has updated the Cayenne's appearance with new front- and rear-end styling. The front bumper, fenders and hood are entirely new, with air fins flanking the nose to direct air into the intercoolers (each model now being artificially aspirated), and new bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running LEDs on every model but the Turbo, which goes all-LED. Around back there's also new taillights, tailgate handle, lower rear fascia and exhaust pipes. Meanwhile the interior has been upgraded with a 918-derived sport steering wheel and reformed rear seats with available ventilation.
The bigger news is under the engine bay, where Porsche is offering four choices. The base model is gone as the range starts with the Cayenne Diesel, followed by the Cayenne S, the new Cayenne S E-Hybrid and the top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo. The Diesel model carries over the same 3.0-liter turbo diesel with 240 horsepower. The Cayenne S however packs a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 that's similar to the one found in the Macan Turbo and packs the same 406 lb-ft of torque but more power at 420 hp, 20 more than either its little brother or the model it replaces to reach 62 mph in 5.2 seconds.
Meet the man that discovered and restored the oldest existing Porsche
Tue, 11 Mar 2014Luciano Rupolo is an absolutely fascinating gentleman. He was born in France but spent nearly his entire life in Italy as an auto mechanic running his own shop. His grandfather and father instilled a love of sports cars in him that he carried on by historic racing in Italy for decades. He saw his life-long automotive passion repaid when he found and restored the car that might have been the first Porsche registered for the road.
You can spot in his garage a split-window Corvette, Ferrari 250 GTE and other exotics, but Rupolo's most interesting automotive story concerns his Iso Grifo Competizione (pictured above). The sports coupe was found in the Canary Islands as little more than a shell, but Rupolo got help from a prestigious source for its restoration. The result is a motoring masterpiece.
Rupolo is a fantastic storyteller with a captivating, tale to tell. Settle in, scroll down and watch the bittersweet documentary about his life with one of the first Porsches.
Porsche 911 Carrera 4S named Motor Trend Best Driver's Car [w/video]
Thu, 22 Aug 2013Motor Trend has named the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S its best driver's car for 2013. The annual
competition for the title included some of the best performance cars that have gone on sale in the past year. The new C4S follows the 2012 Best Driver's Car award winner, a two-wheel-drive Carrera S.
Determining the winner of the coveted title isn't easy. Each vehicle is pushed through Motor Trend's normal battery of instrumented tests. Editors then spend time with each car over a 500-mile tour of mixed conditions before a final batch of testing at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, with pro racer Randy Pobst at the wheel.
