You are looking at a very nice and well cared for 1986 Porsche 944. Highly optioned car with sport seats, cruise and factory alarm, factory alarm is not hooked up. Showing over 120k miles and odometer is not working. I have stacks of records and receipts.. Work that has recently been done this summer is the water pump, timing/balance shaft belts along with all rollers and tensioners. Replaced tailpipe and muffler from a 944 with 30k original miles.. Changed trans fluid. New reman Power steering rack, fluid reservoir, inner and outer tie rod ends, front struts, 4 new tires, brakes are like new, new windshield, battery.. New alternator & p/s belts. Replaced the reference sensor harness from the ECM to the sensors, also replaced both sensors. The sport seats were removed and new high quality German vinyl lower covers were installed by a pro. He also repaired the drivers side bolster leaving the original upper seat covers for authenticity. Sunroof works, headliner could use a freshening. All the hard expensive mechanical work has been done. Interior is 8-10 could be a 10 with minimal work. Dash has been repaired with a skin and looks brand new... Some weatherstripping has been replaced (door seals).. Some Still needs to be replaced.. No interior leaks. Has had a recent paint job and the paint shows well. Some minor dings here and there, some rust bubbles on the bottom drivers side rear quarter panel in front of the wheel. Car shows very well, it is much nicer than most of the junk out there.. I have been honest in my description, you are welcome to come and look at the.. This car was well taken care of its whole life, it is reliable and will only get better by doing the small little things it needs.. Ask questions and send offers. Meet the man that discovered and restored the oldest existing Porsche
Tue, 11 Mar 2014Luciano Rupolo is an absolutely fascinating gentleman. He was born in France but spent nearly his entire life in Italy as an auto mechanic running his own shop. His grandfather and father instilled a love of sports cars in him that he carried on by historic racing in Italy for decades. He saw his life-long automotive passion repaid when he found and restored the car that might have been the first Porsche registered for the road.
You can spot in his garage a split-window Corvette, Ferrari 250 GTE and other exotics, but Rupolo's most interesting automotive story concerns his Iso Grifo Competizione (pictured above). The sports coupe was found in the Canary Islands as little more than a shell, but Rupolo got help from a prestigious source for its restoration. The result is a motoring masterpiece.
Rupolo is a fantastic storyteller with a captivating, tale to tell. Settle in, scroll down and watch the bittersweet documentary about his life with one of the first Porsches.
Porsche drivers escape this horrific VIR crash unscathed
Mon, 07 Oct 2013There is no doubting the fact that it takes nerves of steel to be a racecar driver, but the same can also be said for motorsports photographers. Case in point: The American Le Mans Series Oak Tree Grand Prix at the Virginia International Raceway where two Porsche 911 racecars crash hard into the tire barrier, but the dedicated cameraman stays with the shot - diving away only at the last second just as the battered No. 31 car (shown above) comes to rest atop the tire barriers just feet from where he was standing.
The crash occurred when the two Porsches charged hard into a corner. Judging by the video, the white No. 48 car appears to not see the orange No. 31 and the two cars make contact, skidding off track hitting the tire barriers at a high rate of speed. Both drivers walked away from the frightening crash, but the video - posted below - shows just how bad things could have been. Hopefully the close call will serve as a lesson for the woman standing in the track marshal's post who has her back to the racing as the two cars barrel directly toward her.
Porsche Cayman GT4 spot has us reaching for our driving gloves
Wed, Feb 4 2015We've got to hand it to Porsche for finally unleashing the potential of the Cayman, and not worrying about it infringing on 911 territory. The latest Cayman is, by all accounts, a superb sports car in its own right, gets even better as the Cayman S and that much more so in GTS spec. But the new Cayman GT4 takes things to a whole other level with a 3.8-liter flat six driving 385 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Old school is what it is, and certifiably off the leash. We brought you the full skinny on the new GT4 late last night when it surfaced, but now Porsche has released a video clip highlighting what makes its new pocket rocket look so great. It's got Nurburgring graffiti, intimidated neighbors, barking fluffy dogs, gape-jawed children, and of course footage of the Cayman GT4 itself doing what it was designed to do. All we need now is to get our driving gloves on its Alcantara steering wheel and ball-shaped shifter.
