I'm selling my 1983 Porsche.  It is in very good condition.  I am the 3rd owner of the car.  The original owner sold it to a colleague at work in 1989, and I bought it from him this past April.  I have not owned the car long, but I have drove it almost 10K.  I would trust this car to drive anywhere for any distance.  It had 86K on it when I purchased it.  I have the name, number and address of the mechanic and shop who serviced this vehicle since new.  I just had the timing belt, and water pump done last month.

There are no leaks of any kind that I have noticed.  The car does not burn oil,  clutch is as it should be, and all gears are as they should be.  The AC works, but could use some more R12.  It's cool, but not cold.  Heat works awesome.  Mechanically everything is sound.

Tires are Michellins with 85% tread left on each.  No uneven wear.  Alignment is straight.  Brakes are good.  I put new hood supports in as well.  I have changed the oil every 3500 miles with Mobile 1 synthetic 10/30.  New fuel filter installed as well.  And new air filter.

There are some rock chips in the paint, but nothing excessive and not a lot considering the 31 year age of the car.  Small dent in drivers door.  It could be popped out by removing inside door panel, but it's not bad, so I wasn't concerned with it.  Small dent under right side tail light, not very noticable either.  No rust.  Paint is very glossy and sharp looking.  Has aftermarket cd player, single disk.  Some cracks in the dash, but not bad.  Couple pix show what's there.

I average 27 mpg and use 87 octane fuel.

Overall, mechanically and cosmetically this car is very good.  Low miles for the year, and has been kept in great condition.  I do have the main records for the maintenance as well.  I called the original mechanic after I purchased the car to check when things such as timing belt and water pump were done, and if any major issues were fixed.  Nothing major done, just routine timing, water pump, etc.

I also did a full tune up on the car when I bought it a few months ago.  New plugs, cap, rotor, wires.

Again, I would trust this car to drive anywhere in my opinion.  I use it as a daily driver and have not had any issues.  Fun car that gets great gas mileage.  Please ask any questions if you have any.  This is a 4 seater.  The front has plenty of room...the back seats, not so much!  I usually leave the back seat folded down for larger cargo area.  Front seats have some tears mainly along some of the seams, but are in very good shape.  I have heavy duty seat covers on them to protect them.

The car is also for sale locally so seller has the right to end auction if the vehicle is no longer available.  This is a no reserve auction, so high bidder will receive the car.

Take a POV hot lap in the Porsche 918 Spyder

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

That title about says it all. This is a hot lap of the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, with Porsche Works Driver Patrick Long at the wheel of a Porsche 918 Spyder. The camera is basically showing us everything that Long sees, making this not just one of the coolest 918 videos we've seen, but also one of the neatest laps of CoTA.
As Long peers through the bends, so will you. You'll see him fight the wheel, and find out just how difficult it is to hustle this hybrid hypercar around a world-class track at speed. It's pretty darn entertaining. There are also a few scattered shots of the 918's exterior just to break up the interior awesomeness, although we aren't exactly complaining about those. Take a look below for the short video from Porsche.

New Porsche 4-cyl engines to range from 1.6L to 2.5L

Mon, 02 Jun 2014

Recent rumors of a turbocharged, flat-four-engine from Porsche for the Boxster (pictured testing above), Cayman and maybe other models go back over a year. The latest scuttlebutt indicates that there could be three variants on the horizon with 1.6-, 2.0- and 2.5-liter displacements and power as high as 360 horsepower.
Car magazine in the UK claims to have access to the specifications for the project and thinks the 2.0- and 2.5-liter versions are guaranteed for production for the Boxster and Cayman. However, it believes a question mark still looms over the 210-hp 1.6L because the engine would go into a new, smaller sports car that still doesn't have a green light for production.
Regardless of displacement, the new fours would be turbocharged and direct-injected. The 2.0-liter would produce around 286 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque, and the 2.5-liter would make about 360 hp and 347 lb-ft. Earlier reports pegged some parts sharing with the current flat-six.

Porsche 911 Targa leaks out ahead of Detroit debut

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

With the doors of Cobo Center opening for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Porsche is set to reveal its new 911 Targa in a matter of hours. But before it gets the chance, the first batch of images have already leaked out, courtesy of Chinese car site autohome.com.cn.
As expected, the new Targa appears to ditch the complex sliding glass roof panels that adorned recent versions of the semi-convertible 911 in favor of a more back-to-basics approach. An entirely removable roof panel opens up the sky, backed by a metallic B-pillar hoop in front of a large curved-glass rear window.
We'll have to wait just a little longer for the full scope of images and all the official details, but we're expecting the new Targa to carry most of the same technical specifications as the 991 on which it's based. Watch this space for more.
