This is a wonderfully performing cabriolet Porsche with a rebuilt RUF 3.4 piston engine built by Supertec in California around 2002 with only 6k miles on it now. It has a really strong, tight engine that was obviously built well and at great expense. I actually purchased this car to use the engine in another car, but those plans were not possible to complete. So now its your turn to enjoy this car, it is strong, fast and solid with a 5 speed transmission, something sorely missing in an actual 930 Turbo until 1989. The biggest problem with the car is the paint. Apparently the original owner lived down a 2 mile dirt road and apparently didnt care to much about all of the chips.  All the mechanical functions as far as I can tell are fine and work well. I have included in the photos a copy of the Supertec billing showing all the work done, and some of the pics show the block as it was being built. Supertec has one of the best reputations for strong, solid, reliable 930 engines of anyone out there. This one is strong but not overstressed like some of those 800 hp monsters that are just grenades wating to explode. Reliable, fast, and powerful, AND a convertible - what more can one ask? Summer fun is just a "buy it now" away for you and yours to enjoy all summer long.

I believe the car was yellow at one time, and as I have tried to explain the paint is the weakest point of the car, it has a lot of chips but no rust and no large dings or dents. This car as is would be perfectly good for a track car, but for the street you will want to consider some paint repair. There are also a few threads missing from the convertible top where the window is sewn in, but can be remedied easily.  I do not have the time or inclination to pursue making that aspect better. The boy racer look will appeal to some, but not to others, I understand that, but this is SUMMER and its time to put the top down and enjoy the rush of that wonderful turbo engine and with the 5 speed trans you will get the flexibility to make driving it a true joy. The flares are steel, but the front and rear valences are fiberglass. Well done, but not to everyone's taste. A few replacement parts such as 964 rockers and valences will take this car from boy racer to really HOT!

Car has what look like genuine Porsche turbo twist 17" wheels and new (less than 1k miles) high performance tires, and they work really well keeping it stuck to the road and making the twisties a joy to take on. Exhaust appears to be stainless and expensive, do not know the manufacturer but you know it did cost a lot. Headers for the 930 are notoriously pricey and this one looks practically new. The chassis might be an 85 but the rest of the car, the important bits are like new.

I believe the history of the car will show it was originally sold in Florida to the fellow in CO I bought it from. Its a Euro delivery car which you can tell by the ZZZ in the VIN. ABSOLUTELY no rust since it went from FL to CO in the year 2001 and then went to Supertec in CA for all the modifications. A personal inspection is possible, car is located in northern Colorado east of Fort Collins in the foothills, but you must make an appointment to see the car.

Since owning the car, Ive put about $7000 in to it at the local Porsche shop.  This includes a full mechanical review, new battery, tires (less than 1k miles on them), tune up and some electrical work.  The leakdown tests came back fine and the mechanic said it was in good mechanical condition especially considering how long its been in storage.  The car registration is current in Colorado and passed the smog tests here.

Car is sold as-is where-is with absolutely no warranty offered, implied or possible. The car is described to the best of my ability, it appears to be to be solid, I know its fast and feels really good in the twisties. Other than the paint I dont believe you will be disappointed. Condition of the Hartz fabric top (I believe) and rear plastic window is very good, and the car comes with a retracted top boot, also black Hartz cloth, like new. Take a look at the photos and let me know if you have any questions, I will do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible and answer your questions as honestly as I know how. Not a Porsche expert as such but have owned several 911-930 cars and know a good one from a bad one. I have a few records but not many, I did not get them with the car.

Porsche has proven to me to be the single most reliable, least troublesome semi exotic car on the planet. Owned Mercedes, Porsches, Audis and other German, Italian and English marques and the Porsche is by far my favorite. Only reason this car is being sold is that my wife says I have too many toys already and says I need to open space in the garage :(

Bidders with zero or feedback less than 5 must contact me before bidding for approval to bid. Your bid will be removed if you do not. This sale is a binding legal contract and all legal means will be untertaken to assure you fulfill your obligation to buy if you are the high bidder. If you dont have the money, PLEASE DO NOT BID. This is not a bid to inspect, full inspections are required before auction ends, payment in full is expected within 3 days of auction end, unless you are overseas as a wire transfer may take longer than that. Prior arrangements must be made before auctions's end. Email me if there is any question about bidding rather than just bidding and assuming we can work whatever out before payment is made.

Car is listed as 1980 because the eBay system will not accept the Euro VIN, but I can assure you it is legitimate, titled as an 85 with the VIN stamped on the panel under the hood, can provide photos of that if required. Not sure what happened since I bought the car on eBay a couple of years ago with the exact same VIN in the listing. Again, this car is cleanly registered in Colorado with a clear title!

Chris Harris brings together the 918 Spyder, LaFerrari, and P1

Sat, Nov 21 2015

The Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari, and McLaren P1 show that a hybrid powertrain can make for blistering performance despite its electric assist. This trio doesn't arrive on track together very often, but Chris Harris assembled these three stars at the Portimao circuit for a nearly hour-long demonstration of their amazing capabilities. So, which one is quickest around the track? Harris provides an answer with in-car video of all three contenders. His team also goes out of its way to even the playing field by sourcing tires independently from Pirelli for the P1 and LaFerrari. With the technical part out of the way, Harris can start having fun by doing his usual slides during the driving comparison. Tiff Needell and Marino Franchitti also eventually show up to provide the perfect recipe for a track battle in these hypercars. If you don't have the time, skip about 14:25 into the clip just to see the lap times. However, those numbers only tell a tiny part of the story. The whole video is definitely worth a watch.

UPDATE: Porsche could raise its stake in Rimac, and Rimac weighs in

Sun, Feb 28 2021

CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this Reuters story said Porsche could raise its stake in Rimac to nearly 50%, but Rimac reached out to Autoblog to say that's not so. Here is a statement from Mate Rimac: "We have a very strong partnership with Porsche that is key for Rimac Automobili. Porsche is a shareholder in Rimac since 2018 with 15.5% ownership currently, accumulated over several rounds of investment. While it is true that we are discussing further expansion of this collaboration that will lead to increase of Porsche's stake in Rimac Automobili, some media have mistakenly reported that Porsche would take over 50% or nearly 50% of the company.   We are very happy that the partnership with Porsche will strengthen even further, but it is in the interest of both Rimac and Porsche that Rimac is a fully independent company. We are working with many car companies that are not our shareholders and there is a clear separation between shareholding and projects. It is very important to us that our industry customers have the peace of mind that Rimac is independent and that there is an "Information Firewall" between projects and shareholders (not only Porsche, but also Hyundai and others) - and this will not change. Confidentiality is very valued in the industry and one of the basics for collaboration between companies. Our shareholders are happy with such an arrangement and expect the same level of professional behaviour and confidentiality for their projects and customer projects.   So, the point is: Porsche's stake will increase but nowhere near to 50% and Rimac will remain independent with many industry customers that are not our shareholders/investors." The original story, with the 50% reference removed, appears below.   FRANKFURT — Volkswagen unit Porsche is participating in a financing round of Rimac Automobili that will see the electric supercar maker raise 130 million-150 million euros ($157 million-$181 million), its owner Mate Rimac told weekly Automobilwoche. The fundraising should be completed in two to three months and another round is planned at the end of the year, Rimac told the trade journal. Porsche owns a 15.5% stake in Rimac Automobili and could raise its stake in a deal that would also include the transfer of Volkswagen's supercar brand Bugatti to Rimac, Automobilwoche said. Volkswagen and Rimac were not immediately available for comment on Sunday.

Porsche Macan sales may push brand past 200K unit goal early

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

In late 2010, Volkswagen announced that it would spend the equivalent of $71 billion through 2015 to beef up its product lineup, determined to overtake Toyota in overall sales and profitability by 2018. Each of VW's many brands, in turn, would play its part contributing to a goal of 10 million sales per year. VW-owned Porsche was expected to sell 200,000 vehicles per year by 2018, but with the imminent arrival of the Macan small sport utility vehicle in 2014, the automaker is poised to meet that goal years ahead of schedule, Automotive News reports.
Porsche sold 143,096 cars in 2012, and IHS Automotive predicts Porsche will sell 63,000 Macans in 2014, according to Automotive News, which would make it the brand's best-selling vehicle. Do the math and you can see how Porsche could easily beat original expectations ahead of schedule. But Porsche's sales and marketing boss Bernhard Maier says not so fast: "We will not offer [63,000 Macans] in 2014 as we will still be ramping up production and introducing models top down," he told Automotive News Europe. Whether Porsche surpasses the 200,000 mark early or not, he said, the company will not set a new sales target and will remain committed to its business model.
The Macan shares its architecture with the Audi Q5, but Porsche will be able to charge more for its SUV. Tim Urquhart, a senior analyst at IHS Autmotive, told Automotive News that Porsche can charge 10 to 20 percent more, for what is basically the same SUV, than other VW Group brands. How's that for brand value?
