1976 Porsche Euro Turbo Carrera on 2040-cars
Butler, Pennsylvania, United States
Up for sale is a 1976 Euro Porsche Turbo Carrera . This is the first official production year for the turbocharged 911, and is the most sought after. This is a project car, and will need a restoration but it is a very complete, solid running early 3.0 non intercooled turbo. This is the real deal.
The car has not been on the road in several years now. It does still run, and drive but will need an engine overhaul due to several broken head studs. This is how we acquired the car. It starts fairly easily, has normal oil pressure, normal amount of smoke at startup, and no unusual noises. I have not driven it in years, but I remember it running fairly strong, and pulling hard under boost. The transmission engages all gears. but I remember it needing some synchro work going into 3rd. The body is 99% rust free, there is a small spot on the drivers door sill, a very small bubble by the lower left windshield area, and a small bubble on one of the doors, other than that, very clean. See pictures. The paint shows well, but needs some attention .There is some shrinkage in a few areas, this is also shown in the pictures. The interior is complete and decent, but shows wear as you would expect on a 38 year old car . The car still retains its original drivetrain, and is sitting on its original 15x8 & 15X7 fuchs wheels, which are n nice shape. The tires are very old, and need replaced. It still retains its original aluminum calipers . There is minor body damage to the rear reflector, and the panel behind it, again , very minor. The one euro bumperette is broken off, but included (needs stud repair) . This car has the super rare and desire able euro back up light, and bumper trim with reflectors in it. The window trim is the brushed metal finish, which I believe is the rarest, and very nice looking on this car. All the glass is original , and in good shape. The only missing/incorrect items that I know of are : The car has a tea tray turbo tail of the later cars, and not the correct early turbo tail, and the original plastic air cleaner housing is missing. I will include a metal air cleaner housing from a later turbo. This is a rare chance to own one of the most sought after Porsche cars out there right now. The first official production year for the 911 turbo, and icon. There were less than 600 of these cars produced, and who knows how many are left. |

Leno steals Porsche 918 from The Quail for latest Garage episode
Sat, 31 Aug 2013Just because he's a famous celebrity doesn't mean Jay Leno got to take it easy at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance earlier this month. Having already spent some time with the gorgeous Cadillac Elmiraj Concept and Ed Welburn for a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage, the late night talk show host also got to put a few miles on a prototype version of the Porsche 918 Spyder.
Like a usual episode of JLG, Leno first goes over the details of the car with Frank Walliser, head of the 918 Spyder's development, before taking it out for spin. Check out the full episode, which is posted below, to hear what Walliser has to say about the car. More importantly, though, crank up your computer's volume and let the car's high-revving engine and amazing exhaust note do plenty of talking for itself.
NHTSA closes probe into 2011 Porsche 911 coolant leaks
Thu, 13 Mar 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that it will end its investigation into rapid coolant loss in 24,635 Porsche 911s built between 2001 and 2011. The models affected included the standard 911, GT2, GT3 and Turbo, as well as their variants (GT2 RS, GT3 RS and Turbo S).
NHTSA was investigating for "rapid coolant loss caused by coolant pipe-fitting failure, allegedly resulting in vehicle disablement and/or loss of vehicle control due to reduced traction for the affected vehicle or following traffic," according to the regulators website. "Most of the leak complaints did not appear to involve complete separation of the fittings and many were detected when the vehicle was parked," said NHTSA's statement.
There were 63 complaints and 336 warranty claims, although the investigation was initiated after ten complaints from customers. There have been no reports of crashes or injuries attributed to rapid coolant loss.
Porsche GT division rules out AWD, SUVs
Fri, Mar 13 2015Any German automaker worth its lap times needs a performance division. Mercedes has AMG, BMW has the M division, Audi has Quattro GmbH with its S and RS models... even Volkswagen has its R line of hot hatches. And though Porsche is a performance automaker unto itself, even it has a performance division. It's called Porsche GT, and though it's been branching outside the 911 range lately, don't expect it to wander too far. According to Car and Driver, which spoke recently with Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger and R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz, there are limits to what the division will do. And while those limits may have been broadened to include technologies like turbocharging and dual-clutch transmissions, they won't stretch as far as all-wheel drive. Take a look at the previous-generation 997 and what separated the 911 GT2 from the 911 Turbo was principally its all-wheel-drive system. Porsche GT isn't planning on doing a GT2 this time around – the new GT3 RS occupying that territory on its own – but the next generation (whether it wears the number 2 or 3) will likely go turbo along with most of the rest of the 911 family. The exclusion of all-wheel drive from the Porsche GT parts bin also means that the division won't be taking on the company's SUVs like the Cayenne and Macan. So the Cayenne GTS will be as extreme as it gets, taking on the likes of the BMW X5 M, Mercedes GL63 and Audi SQ5 without the help of Zuffenhausen's racing department. We can't expect the PDK to stick around though, so to speak. Though the new Cayman GT4 packs a manual transmission, the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS have dual-clutch gearboxes. Moving forward, Preuninger says they'll leave it up to prospective customers to decide which type of transmission they'll build into their most extreme performance models.
