1979 Porsche 930
"One Family Owned, 100% Fully Documented and Original Paint – 15,624 Miles!"Call Jeff at 616-881-2429 Forever Alter Your Standard of Performance ~ It was the year 1973 when Porsche unveiled its soon to be produced 911 Carrera Turbo to the public at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The wider body and curvaceous hips were similar to the newly introduced Carrera RS 3.0, but the badging along with the aggressive rear spoiler made it clear that Porsche was introducing a completely new animal. The introduction of the Turbo would develop yet another Porsche tradition. Simply known as the Turbo, the car was released in the spring of 1975 and with great anticipation and much fanfare introduced to the US market in 1976. When introduced, the car featured a 3.0 liter turbocharged flat six producing 0-60 times in under 5 seconds. In 1978, Porsche upgraded the engine to 3.3 liters and added an intercooler boosting the performance to 300 hp and top speeds at 165 mph making it the fastest car available for the US market. No other car of that time captured the attention of the automotive press and not enough could be written of the brutal performance and the sheer beauty that the car had to offer. The one family owned, 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo offered here is nothing less than astonishing. The car was purchased new from Jess Jones Porsche Audi of West New York, NJ, where the original owner paid a 15000.00 dollar premium over the MSRP to get his hands on this super car. With standard appointments such as: all leather interior, alloy wheels, fog lights, intermittent wipers, power mirrors, power windows, fog lights, quartz clock, air conditioning, automatic heat control, 4 wheel ventilated disc brakes, reclining seats etc. these cars came highly optioned standard. This 930 was also ordered with desirable limited slip differential, heated outside mirrors and electric sliding roof. The car remained in the caring hands of the original owner until his passing in 2002 where ownership transferred to his grandson where the same care and appreciation for the car continued. Today at just 15624 documented miles, the car remains outstanding original. With the exception of an upgraded stereo and upgraded headlights (originals included), the car remains in 100 percent excellent original and unmolested condition. The original Black paint remains excellent as does the original black all leather interior including the dash. Every square inch of this vehicle demonstrates the care it has received for the last 35 years of ownership. Mechanically the car remains extremely fit retaining its spirited 3.3 liter turbo charged engine mated to its original smooth shifting 4 speed gearbox all harnesses by Porsche's Rack and Pinion Steering and 4 wheel ventilated disc brakes. The documentation is exceptional including original order form, original bill of sale, original window sticker, finance contract, life insurance papers for the loan, all original books with portfolio, original stationary portfolio, all paperwork from day one, original and complete tool roll, original key card with original keys, owner history, research material regarding the original purchase of the vehicle and added bonuses of vintage articles by car and driver, road and track, and playboy reviewing the 930. The mileage is fully documented by service records, state inspections, and registrations. Video Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-11nevKcmw&rel=0 Powered by Dealer Accelerate. Can a Corvette really be compared to a 911 with options costing more than the Chevy?
Wed, 29 Jan 2014In this latest video from Drive, Chris Harris asks straight away, "Can you still compare a base Corvette to a Porsche Carerra?" That's an particularly interesting question in this film, as the 911 in question is a 400-horsepower Carrera S model that's been fitted with $60,000 in options. Base price of a Corvette Stingray? $51,995. Harris' tester features an automatic and some other goodies that push it right up to that $60,000 range. So yes, the options on the Porsche cost as much as this entire 460-hp Chevrolet.
Harris stresses that this isn't a full review, but he does exercise both cars in a more composed manner before reverting to his traditionally exuberant driving style. The impressions are, as always, spot on, with Harris favoring the pointy nature and V8 power of the Stingray, while enjoying the gearbox (Porsche's exceptional PDK transmission) and just about everything else on the 911.
Take a look below for the latest video from Drive, and let us know if you agree with Mr. Harris' views on these two sports cars.
Porsche drivers escape this horrific VIR crash unscathed
Mon, 07 Oct 2013There is no doubting the fact that it takes nerves of steel to be a racecar driver, but the same can also be said for motorsports photographers. Case in point: The American Le Mans Series Oak Tree Grand Prix at the Virginia International Raceway where two Porsche 911 racecars crash hard into the tire barrier, but the dedicated cameraman stays with the shot - diving away only at the last second just as the battered No. 31 car (shown above) comes to rest atop the tire barriers just feet from where he was standing.
The crash occurred when the two Porsches charged hard into a corner. Judging by the video, the white No. 48 car appears to not see the orange No. 31 and the two cars make contact, skidding off track hitting the tire barriers at a high rate of speed. Both drivers walked away from the frightening crash, but the video - posted below - shows just how bad things could have been. Hopefully the close call will serve as a lesson for the woman standing in the track marshal's post who has her back to the racing as the two cars barrel directly toward her.
