History:

In 2001 I started my search for this car.  My search criteria was simply blue exterior, tan interior and a manual transmission.  After almost two years of searching I found the car in California.  I spoke with the then owner, a county councilman.  He owned the car for over a decade of gently driven, dealer serviced, garaged miles.

As i live on the opposite coast, the owner sent many pictures.  Liking what I saw, I had a professional survey done...all good.

Next I sent a 928 specialty shop (Precision Motor Works) just outside LA and had the car completely serviced costing almost $7,000.00.  After tag and titling it I got a 1 way ticket to LAX, got picked up at the airport within a few hours began my 3000 mile coast to coast road trip home.  I drove very softly until I passed the Cumberland Gap and was in Maryland.  I then sped up to 165 for the one and only time I checked the cars top speed.  (The S4 model set the world land speed record at Bonnieville for a production car clocking in at over 171 MPH.  Made it from Los Angeles to Baltimore in just over 40 hours

Sent the car to Valley Porsche (dealership) for another check out oil change and new timing belt re-tensioned, where it was serviced exclusively until their Factory Trained Service Technician retired.  The service manager sent me to Ralph's Porsche Service and their Factory Trained 928 guy.

After making intake and exhaust upgrades I wanted to measure its performance numbers (and to spank my friends new 2005 M3) I took it  for it's one and only time at the track and ran 13.4.

The car is very fast;
1987  928 S4 5 speed manual 5.0 liter 32 valve DOHC 316 hp/ 317 torque upgrade air filter 10, exhaust 25 engine mapping chip 10% power gain puts the car in the high 300's.

The car has been my short trip daily driver.  It is very dependable as it has always been maintained properly.  This car is one which needs to be maintained.  If you can not afford the maintenance you should not buy the car.  The 928, at least, this one,  will run perfectly for a lifetime provided it is properly maintained.  You, the buyer need to take this car to a Porsche Factory Trained Technician.   If you can not do the work yourself do not take it to some guy your friend knows who gave him a deal to fix his car.  Anything except someone who really knows this car is a recipe for disaster.  The future of this vehicle is important to both myself and the previous owner, it is a special example of a car ahead of it's time where manufacturers are just now starting to catch up.

Things I know the car needs.

I have a quote of $5,000 to repair the accident damage and to repaint the whole car.  The engine was not hit in the accident. The radiator and all front lights need to be replaced.  Car needs front clip replaced.  Repairs could possibly be less expensive but I only take my car to the best repair shop where I know and have seen high quality Porsche 928 collision repair.  The car could need other small accident related issues, such as, I know it needs a new master relay, front end alignment, etc... but overall the accident is relatively minor and fully/easily repairable.
Rear tires
Windshield, not from accident, but a stone from the road
The car is 26 it is not new.  Anything else wrong I am unsure and this is not meant to be an all inclusive evaluation of the car.  It is an as/is sale.

The reason for the sale of the car is right around the time of the accident my business closed and I can not afford the repair, or the ongoing maintenance of the vehicle.

I am going to start the reserve for $3000.00, it's what I paid for the wheel and tire package alone.

Good luck and happy bidding.

This vehicle is always open for viewing and I highly suggest seeing the car in person or the use of a surveyor prior to bidding.  I am happy to update with any pictures requested.  Starting the listing with just one until I can get to the shop to take more.

'We're not a hedge fund': Porsche plans to curtail speculators and flippers

Tue, May 30 2017

A sizable number of speculators view cars as an investment. Rare or unusual models are quickly snapped up and either parked for years or flipped for a profit. Cars from automakers like Porsche and Ferrari are more prone than others, and at least some people behind these models are getting a bit tired of it. While it's difficult to police what goes on after you sell a car, Porsche has some plans that might curtail the problem before it starts. Andreas Preuninger, the head of GT road-car development and the man behind the new 911 GT3, spoke to Car and Driver at a recent event. "I personally like to see my cars being used," he said. "That's what we build them for. They are just too good to be left to stand and collect dust." One recent example of this rampant speculation is the 911 R. While the special manual-only model sold for $185,950 when new, used versions were selling for nearly $1.3 million just months after it went on sale. While the car is a masterpiece and an instant classic, a good number will be parked and simply used as art and not the rolling testaments to the man/machine interface they were intended to be. The concern over valuations has become so fierce that some owners are upset that Porsche is offering the new 911 GT3 with a manual transmission, fearing that it may hurt the value of the 911 R. "When I said we're not a hedge fund, I'm talking to those people who are yelling at us for offering the manual transmission similar to the R," Preuninger said. "But if there are people wanting to buy cars like that, then as a company we should try to fulfill that, to meet that demand." It seems Porsche is keeping a close eye on who is flipping cars. Since there is often far more demand than supply with certain models, the German automaker has a name for every car before it's built. Buyers with bad reputations might not even make the wait list. Porsche expects to hit 200k sales target 3 years early

Fri, Jan 9 2015

When Porsche launched the Cayenne, enthusiasts and purists – in between fits of rage – rationalized the SUVs existence by imagining that the money it brought in would guarantee the company's continued ability to produce the many beloved versions of its 911. The same was said when the Panamera arrived, and again when the Macan was unveiled. What probably wasn't imagined when these three more mainstream vehicles joined the Porsche catalog, was how dramatic an impact they'd have on the company's sales figures. The company expects 2015 to be a banner year, as it aims to hit a 200,000-unit sales goal three years ahead of schedule. Porsche sold nearly 190,000 units in 2014, a gain of 17 percent over 2013, while its year-over-year sales for December were up 39 percent. Considering Porsche made these gains before the full impact of the new Macan could be felt, it's no wonder the company is so keen on 2015. Porsche has already moved 45,000 Macans, which would be impressive on its own, were it not for the way the CUV is elevating the brand. According to a report from Reuters, two-thirds of the company's Macan deliveries have been to first-time Porsche customers. Considering these two facts, it will be extremely interesting to see the impact Porsche's newest model has on its sales over a full calendar year.

Build your dream garage with this insane prize from Omaze

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability is subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze. Normally when we write about Omaze sweepstakes, they involve a car that you'd never go out and buy on your own. A six-figure camper van build, a $300,000 Ford Bronco restoration, a Land Rover Defender that's so beautiful it should be in a museum. Today's prize might beat out all of those, because not only could you win a dream car, you'll be entered for a chance to win $100k cash to go along with it.  There are a lot of cars you can buy with $100k. You could buy a Land Cruiser Heritage Edition or a Mustang GT500 or 6 Chevy Sparks and start your own racing series. Personally, if I won that kind of dough, assuming I also won this Bentley Bentayga, my favorite of Omaze's current offerings, I'd probably use some of it to buy something quirky, like a Honda Element converted into a pop-top camper, or a restored/upgraded 60 series Land Cruiser. Think that's a terrible way to spend the cash? That's the beauty of it. It is completely up to you. No one can tell you what to do with it.
