This is a very nice car with a bit of a soiled history. Sold new here in Southern California and serviced regularly and well kept, changed hands a couple times and then was involved in a single car accident that damaged the passenger side front suspension. The insurance company totalled it and it was sold at auction to the owner of a local body shop. He put it on the frame machine and got it back in alignment without much issue at all. There was no body damage, it was just under the car, so no paintwork was needed. He started driving the car and stated that it ran and drove very well and he was having a blast with it when one day it started running poorly. Water was mixing with the oil somehow and so he parked the car at his shop and just let it sit.  I came along with a pocket full of dreams and brought the car back to my garage, gave it a quick clean up and parked it next to my other Porsche as eye candy...it really looks nice.  I have done nothing with it other than a quick attempt to start it when I first hauled it home...it turned over slowly and fired at least a couple times, but with all the sludge in it I didn't push my luck. It did seem that the electrical parts of the car were in good shape. The body shop owner did say that the central driveline was making a vibration noise when he drove it so he did pick up another one from one of his parts vendors and that is included with the sale. The car is in nice shape with only a few dings here and there, the biggest one being a small spot on the passenger side rear bumper that cracked the taillight lens as well. The lens on the drivers side also has a crack but that is really the worst of it body wise. With a coat of wax it shines up really nice and it looks like a million bucks here in my man cave!  Interior is in nice shape overall, seats look good, a couple of small cracks on the dash pad and a couple of dirt spots here and there on the carpet that will probably clean up with a little effort. Kenwood stereo with remote, all the manuals and service books and even the original plastic glove for changing tires are here. There is even a vial of original touch up paint! The car shows well and Im sure with some effort and throwing a pile of hundred dollar bills at it...it will once again run as good as it looks. I dont know if the coolant/oil mix is due to a head gasket or the transmission/ oil cooler that is in the radiator (people have told me this is a common thing) I just have not checked into it at all. I just parked it and wipe it down with the car duster from time to time. One of the issues the car has is paperwork, this being a part of the reason I have not pushed hard to fix it. There are a bunch of back fees due to the California DMV and the body shop owner never completed the registration and post-salvage inspection. He started the process and when the car stopped running he just dropped it all. I ran the numbers through a title service I have worked with and it is all clean, as in no past theft or anything, but he told me there may be as much as $1700 in fees as well as the need for the brake and lamp inspection, emissions testing and all that in order to get it titled and on the road. I figured I would attend to it when I have it running...which I have never done, so I regrettably must sell is AS-IS on a bill of sale only. I have no physical title for the car and will not jump through the hoops to get one. (sorry) If the car is going out of state, I would imagine that the back fees in California can be avoided completely, on the salvage history, I have no clue. Im happy to sign whatever is needed and am still in contact with the previous owner at the body shop and he is a straight up guy that I imagine would help if needed as well.  The car seems far too nice to end up being just a parts car, but I suppose if it all went to help keep another one on the road, that would be OK...or I am sure it can be repaired and get back on the highway itself where these cars really shine! I love the car and have dreamed about getting it on the road for a while, just love the look of it , but I have decided that I would rather sell it off to someone with the time to fix the issues and then spend my time on my other cars. I will get another one someday, but it will be one I only have to turn the key...not the wrench with. Low starting bid and NO RESERVE!

Porsche celebrates Le Mans return with Martini edition 911

Tue, 10 Jun 2014

If we've said it once, we've said it a hundred times - but we'll gladly say it again: there are few racing liveries as iconic as Martini. And while those stripes have adorned countless Lancia and Ford rally cars, grand prix racers (like the latest Williams) and even speedboats, they remain inexorably tied to Porsche. Fortunately that point is not lost on Porsche itself, which has lately put them on its own 918 Spyder, race-spec 911 and all manner of merchandise. And this is the latest.
To celebrate its return to Le Mans this year, Porsche Exclusive is offering this special Martini Racing Edition. It's based on the 911 Carrera S, which means the more potent 3.8-liter flat six with 400 horsepower, but upgrades, as you might have guessed, with a whole mess of Martini Racing stripes and logos, along with the Aerokit Cup front and rear spoilers. The badges and stripes abound inside as well, where you'll also find such optional extras as the Porsche Communication Management system, Bose audio and black leather electric sport seats.
Porsche is offering the 911 Carrera S Martini Racing Edition in either white or black, but unfortunately not in our market - just in Europe, China and Latin America. Those who miss out will (in certain markets anyway) be able to order the decal set separately though. Feel free to read more in the press release below.

10 most memorable cars and SUVs of 2019

Tue, Dec 24 2019

It's no surprise that a car reviewer will drive a large number of cars over the course of a year. Indeed, when the clock strikes midnight on Dec 31, I will have driven 75 new cars, trucks and SUV this year (and one old Peugeot) over the course of weekly evaluation loans and first drive events. That sure seems like a lot. Some definitely got more attention than others, and some came and went without leaving much of an impression – I completely forgot I drove a Kia Forte. Yet in the spirit of this day, I thought I'd pick the 10 that I would love to see under the Christmas tree tomorrow morning. You know, just in case you were looking to get me something. I'll also throw in a couple disappointments that were memorable for the wrong reasons. They'd get sent back to the store on Boxing Day. Lexus LC 500 Pictured below and resplendent in its Flare Yellow metallic paint, the car that would reach highest on my list is the divine Lexus LC 500. As a devout lover of GT cars, the LC ticks all the boxes. Muscular and characterful engine? V8, check. Beautifully made and memorable interior? It's gorgeous, to hell with Remote Touch. Check. Comfortable and reasonably practical? Superb seats and, uh, yeah. Makes me want to stand there and stare at it? You bet. Though I long figured my heart would say LC but my head "Porsche 911," after this go-around, that's no longer the case. LC, pretty please. 2020-lexus-lc500-f34-2 View 19 Photos Polestar 1 I actually feel lucky that I got to drive the Polestar 1. Only 150 will be produced each year, and it's a far more special thing than it would initially appear. And that's despite initially appearing to be a beautiful, classic two-door GT car with a roof so rakish it's only possible because it's made of carbon fiber. That itÂ’s a massively powerful plug-in hybrid with more all-electric range than any other PHEV is a thick dollop of whipped cream on a slice of Toscakaka. You know, Swedish dessert, Swedish car. Fine, I'll stick to Ikea references.  Polestar1_Launch_SanFrancisco-0014 View 44 Photos Volvo V60 Cross Country Speaking of Sweden, did I drive this car off the road there? Sure did! And despite this, the V60 Cross Country scratches that certain wagon itch and looks sensational to boot. I wish it were available with the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it's best not to get greedy at Christmas.

Porsche to introduce new Boxster Spyder, Macan GTS this year

Mon, Mar 16 2015

Dig the new Porsche Cayman GT4 but really wish it came in open-top form? Love the Boxster GTS but wish it had more punch? Well we've got good news for you, friend, as that seems to be precisely what Porsche has in store. Among the new models the Volkswagen Group has lined up for this year will be a new Porsche Boxster Spyder. Although no details were announced along with the name, there are a few elements we can look forward to. The new Boxster Spyder is tipped to be essentially an open-top version of the Cayman GT4, but just how many of the latter's components will make the jump from coupe to convertible remain to be seen. The GT4 packs the 3.8-liter flat six from the 911 Carrera S with 385 horsepower, channeled to the rear wheels through an old-school six-speed manual transmission. It also has carbon-ceramic brakes, revised aero, and a stiffened suspension. The Spyder version of the previous Boxster arrived in 2009 with a modest 14-horsepower boost, a retuned suspension and a good 176 pounds trimmed off its curb weight thanks to the elimination of the motorized soft top, air-con and other components. That's not all Porsche has in store for 2015, though. The German automaker has also confirmed a Macan GTS is in the works that promises to explore the little crossover's performance potential. Projecting just what Porsche will do to Macan to give it the GTS treatment, though, is a little tricky. Sure, the German automaker already offers GTS of the rest of its lineup, but just where that model slots in to each line varies. On the Boxster and Cayman, it slots in between the S and GT4/Spyder. For the 911, it serves as a mid-point between the Carrera S and the GT3. And with the Panamera and Cayenne, the GTS bridges the gap between the S and Turbo models. Considering both the Macan S and Macan Turbo pack twin-turbo V6s, the Macan GTS could serve as a mid-point between the S and Turbo with around 350-360 hp, or (more likely) top the range with upwards of 420 hp. One way or another, though, we can expect upgrades to the suspension, brakes, rolling stock and trim to complete the package. Most of the rest of the announcements made in VW's annual report we either already knew about or are of little interest, but the document also confirms new Lamborghinis on the way, including two new versions of the Aventador (likely to be the new SV coupe we just saw and an SV roadster) and three more of the Huracan as well, including two Spyder versions of the latter.
