1981 Porsche 928 5 Speed With Sbc 350 From Renegade Hybrids on 2040-cars
Aurora, Colorado, United States
1981 Porsche 928 5 speed with Chevy 350 The best of both worlds. Porsche styling and handling with the reliability, power, and maintainability of a SBC. This is not a shade tree conversion. The conversion was done at Renegade Hybrids of Las Vegas (renegadehybrids.com) and owned by a mechanic who was employed there before I bought it. Included is the full 928 factory workshop manuals on CD. Engine: 350 SBC with Holley 750 CFM single pumper. Less than 1K miles on top end rebuild that included new cam, lifters, timing gears/chain, and rockers at over $2k. Included is a Holley 4Di TBI system (ECM currently installed, throttle body removed) with software. Custom aluminum headers to a 3 inch single exhaust, 2 cats, and a Flowmaster turbo muffler. Custom oversized aluminum radiator with thermostat controlled fan in front, and twin manual fans behind. Drivetrain: Porsche 5 speed manual, hydraulic carbon fiber clutch, 80% LSD. Car: 1981 928 repainted Porsche Panther Black with S4 spoiler. Always covered or garaged. The car sits on 17" 911 cup wheels with Yokohama ES100 Front (225/45/ZR17) Rear (245/45/ZR17) and Biltstein struts all around. Newer black carpets, with tan leather interior. Front seats in good condition with no rips, back seats average. Tan and black dash mats (leather is deteriorated). Bad: Will not pass Colorado emissions. Carb is jetted low and it passes CO, but not HC. I have been told that this may be a timing issue, but I cannot confirm. Being a 1981, it only requires the standing test. Small leak in the radiator (Stop leak may fix, but I personally won't use it). Dash lights are all out, but I have LED replacements. Crack in windsheild. Climate control not working (only fan on defroster). Second gear synchro worn and odometer does not work (common issues). Clean Colorado title, and my only involvement in shipping will be backing out of the garage and handing the keys to your shipper. $16,500 or best offer |

Techart modified Porsche 911 Turbo S packs 620 hp, 0-62 in 2.8 seconds
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Considering how many absolutely ridiculous tuner cars are featured in Geneva (stay tuned to see plenty, as our coverage continues), it's often refreshing to see some of the more modestly modified cars, like this new Porsche 911 Turbo S from the folks at Techart. Visually, there's a subtle body kit, new wheels, a new spoiler, and some lame decals on the front end, but it basically ends there. That's because Techart's mission is really about higher performance. Increased dynamism, as the Germans say.
An ordinary 911 Turbo S produces 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. But the Techart kit adds 60 hp and 96 lb-ft to those already high numbers, for a coupe that dishes out a total of 620 hp and 612 lb-ft. Techart says that, in Sport Plus mode, its modified 911 Turbo S will accelerate to 62 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds, and the top speed has been increased to 204 miles per hour. Crazy stuff.
To further drive its performance upgrades home, Techart has fitted this 911 Turbo S with a sport exhaust system with valve control, for a more robust exit interview, at the push of a button. We imagine it sounds awesome. Have a look at the Techart Turbo S in the gallery, above.
Porsche responds to PETA after tiger cub displays at Macan dealership events
Tue, 13 May 2014Porsche has found itself in the good graces of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which is pretty odd considering it's the only brand we know of that offers leather-lined vents. The activist group is praising the sports car manufacturer's handling of reports that some of its dealerships were set to feature tigers or tiger cubs at the local launch events for the Macan. Apparently, "macan" is the Malay word for tiger, which explains the connection between a highly touted crossover and a jungle cat.
A Tampa, FL dealership already displayed some three-week-old cubs, with PETA saying tigers for display should be at least eight to 12 weeks old. Even then, the group argues that the animals can suffer due to stress, malnourishment, neglect and a lack of veterinary care. The group brings up legal concerns, as well, arguing that if one of the cubs bit a customer, the dealership could be held liable (we're no big cat experts, but it seems unlikely a three-week-old cub could do that much damage).
Porsche's PR department quickly reacted to PETA's claims, with Vice President of Marketing Andre Oosthuizen, telling the group that Porsche is concerned about the "welfare of any animal, large or small, wild or domesticated." Oosthuizen's statements were reported in an official PETA blog.
Porsche kicks off Macan production at revamped Leipzig plant
Sun, 16 Feb 2014After over two years of construction and roughly 500 million euros ($684 million at current rates) invested, Porsche finally opened its Leipzig, Germany, factory expansion on February 11. The improvements to the plant are dedicated to building the Macan and include a new body shop, paint shop and assembly line that are advancing Porsche's goal to sell 50,000 Macan's per year. The company believes that the new model is going to push it to over 200,000 annual sales 3 years ahead of schedule, and the enlarged branch can support even more Macan production, if there is demand.
"We are totally convinced in the qualities of this location and that the Macan will be a marketing success," said Porsche Chairman Matthias Müller during the opening celebration. The company opened its Leipzig factory in 2002 to build the Cayenne and added Panamera production in 2009.
The Macan models are due to launch in the US this summer with prices starting at $49,900. Scroll down to learn all of the details about the Macan's Leipzig assembly plant.
