1987 Porsche 924s No Reserve on 2040-cars

A nice 1987 Porsche 924s, odometer reads 30,800 miles, although this is probably because the speedometer was disconnected at some time. It is certainly not 100,380...the condition of the interior shows this. The seats have light wear....not worn through or torn or stained. The dash is not cracked or discolored. This car spent most of its life not being used. Please check the photos for the condition of the interior. This is not an interior that has been replaced. The car has had a paint silver overspray, with pin-striping. Tires are Hankook in very good shape; original wheels with locking lugs. The A/C compressor is frozen, and needs to be fixed or replaced. The original Blaupunkt radio is operable, but the speakers have static. The power antenna is stuck. The sunroof motor works, but one of the holdup mounts need top be replaced. Headliner needs to be reattached in the front. Rear seat in very nice condition. Rear storage area cover, and tool kit included. Power windows and power sunroof. Five-speed manual transmission. 150hp engine, 4-cylinder fuel injected. Same engine as the Porsche 944, just slightly detuned by Porsche at the manufacturer. See the Wiki on the Porsche 924s / 944. Runs strong and straight. One of the initial issues when purchased, was the fuel system. The tank contained old and bad fuel. The tank was drained, cleaned and we installed a new fuel pump and filter. Along with a couple of tanks of fuel, with Sea Foam, the injectors have been cleaned, and were not replaced. Other things completed: New distributor cap, thermostat, rotor, plugs, fuel filter, head gasket set, timing belt, cooling and radiator hoses. Radiator cleaned. Cylinder head job, valve job with 4 exhaust valve guides and resurfaced the head. All this work was completed by Checkered Flag Automotive, Sebring, FL, in August, 2013 (receipts are available). I bought this car in March, 2013, and have been working on it since. I am not going to be able to complete the work at this time, due to a recent medical issue, and would like to see this go to someone who appreciates the car and the condition. I also have the original owners manual, and a box full of trim pieces, weather seals, and other parts. Everything I have will be included in the sale. I am a private owner, so I cannot quote shipping costs. You will find those estimates online. I will do all that I can to facilitate shipping arrangements from my location in the Sebring / Avon Park, FL area. We are about 70 miles south of Orlando, FL. Certainly very, very drivable, if you wish to drive it home. A clear Florida title, no liens, currently tagged and insured in FL. Please ask any questions that you may have. This is my personal car; I am not selling for someone else. Please see my feedback and bid with confidence!

Do we finally know which hybrid hypercar is fastest?

Sun, Oct 11 2015

In order to properly compare and contrast the performance characteristics of competitive automobiles, a number of variables have to be sorted out. For instance, to diminish the human component, the same driver must be used for each lap, that driver has to be capable of wringing the maximum level of performance from each vehicle, and they should all be checked and prepared to make sure they are within manufacturer specs before hitting the track. Speaking of which, the conditions at the track – and, of course, it goes without saying that the cars have to be tested at the same location, on the same day – have to be as similar as possible. Naturally, arranging all of these variables is difficult, if not impossible, and that's especially true when the contenders are the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder. As range-topping models from well-established performance players, these three hybrid hypercars are often lumped into the same category. But which one is fastest? Well, that's been a tough nut to crack, in part because the manufacturers themselves haven't always been willing to play along when it comes time to test these machines head-to-head-to-head. And so, with all that (probably unnecessary) preamble out of the way, we present to you the video above, in which this particular vehicular pedestal is toppled. All three cars are owned by a man named Paul Bailey, they were tested on the same day at the Silverstone circuit in England, and each had British Touring Car driver Mat Jackson at the helm. We're not going to spoil the results, other than to say that all three vehicles were incredibly fast and within spitting distance of one another at the finish line, as you would expect. Intriguingly, this video is said to be part one in a three-part series, so we have more Ferrari vs. McLaren vs. Porsche action to look forward to. Touring Italy in a classic Porsche will have you feeling continental

Wed, 13 Nov 2013

It's hard to believe there was a time when a Porsche 911 didn't come to market with 400 horsepower. But as the latest video from Petrolicious reminds us, with this video of a 1968 911T, owned by Donato Maniscalco, that time wasn't so long ago.
You might think, being a distinguished man living in Italy, Maniscalco would be more enthused by a Ferrari, Maserati, or Lamborghini, but in reality, it was always Porsche that enamored the Italian as a boy. And it was that passion that led him to purchase the glorious 911T he's seen tossing about in this video.
Maniscalco goes into detail about what makes the old 911 such a legend, while also mentioning how he and the car participate in classic rallies and races. There's also some typically beautiful footage of the Italian countryside, as well. So take a look below for the latest video from Petrolicious.

Alonso wants an NSX, but did Honda block him from Le Mans?

Tue, Jan 20 2015

One of the biggest changes in store for the 2015 Formula One World Championship will see Fernando Alonso moving back to McLaren. That means he'll be driving under Honda power for the first time, after spending the bulk of his career driving for Renault and Ferrari. And being Honda's new poster child, as the two-time World Champion is fast discovering, has its advantages and its drawbacks. According to the latest reports, Alonso had been negotiating a clause in his contract with McLaren that could have seen him driving a Porsche 919 Hybrid at Le Mans this year, but Honda reportedly stepped in at the last minute and scuttled the plan. The drive would have been Alonso's first in the famous 24-hour race, after having had the honor of waving the flag at La Sarthe last summer. In one of the wilder rumors that emerged during the prolonged silence over his move for this season, the Spaniard was also linked to a potential return for Ferrari to Le Mans. That prospect came to naught, and now the Porsche deal has been wheeled into the garage, as well. The upcoming F1 season is expected to be one of transition, adjustment and development for McLaren and Honda, but the Japanese automaker's involvement in his hiring may not be all bad news for Alonso. Following the reveal of the new Acura NSX, Alonso tweeted "You still don't know, but one day we will be together..." followed by a series of heart-eyed smiley-face emoticons and accompanies by images of Honda's new supercar. The implication is that the two-time World Champion is expecting to get his talented hands on an NSX of his own, and we can certainly see how Honda would appreciate the imagery of Fernando driving around in its flagship. Even if it doesn't, though, we're sure McLaren would be glad to hook him up with a company car of its own – though Lewis Hamilton encountered some trouble securing (a very specific) one for himself. Even discounting the front-running F1 machinery he's been tasked with piloting on track to an impressive 32 career wins, Alonso has had some lustworthy company cars at his disposal over the years. At Renault, he had a Megane RS to drive, and during his last stint at McLaren, he had an SLR 722. But since signing with Ferrari, he's been given the keys to FCA models as varied as a Ferrari FF, a special 599 GTO, a Maserati GranCabrio, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and an Abarth 695... and those are just the ones we know about.
