Very Low Miles. Very Beautiful. on 2040-cars
Sacramento, California, United States
Engine:6 Cylinder, 2.0
For Sale By:Private Seller
Vehicle Title:Clear
Used
Year: 1971
Sub Model: 914-6
Make: Porsche
Exterior Color: Silver
Model: 914
Interior Color: Black
Trim: Mid-Engine 2-Door
Drive Type: Rear Wheel Drive
Mileage: 53,150
Of the approximately 3,300 914-6’s ever made, only 432 were produced in
1971. It’s hard to imagine a nicer or
more original example than this one with just over 53,000 miles. #914 143 0240 still has its correct, matching
engine #641 4065. The car had only
38,000 miles on it in 1989 when it underwent a meticulous, bare metal
restoration, its one repaint in the original Porsche “8010 Silver” remains in
beautiful condition. The engine was
rebuilt to original 2.0 specs. The car
retains the original “tailshifter” transmission, making every drive an
adventure in shifting. All photos were taken within the last month, and the car is exactly as it appears. Extraordinarily impressive, but not a show car, it has been driven sparingly and enjoyed, carefully maintained, always garaged and covered. As you can tell from the photos, the gaps are uniform and the body panels are flat and straight. The headlights pop up together like synchronized swimmers. Original interior is in excellent condition, including a perfect dash with no cracks. Carpets show some minor wear but are in excellent condition for their age. Includes the carpeted passenger footrest, and the dealer-installed “All Transistor AM-FM Radio by Motorola Custom Built for Porsche with Push Button Tuning” (owner’s manual description, not mine). Please click on the image below to view 80 photographs:
What else is included? Original vinyl portfolio with embossed Porsche logo is in reasonably good shape
for its age—no tears or split seams.
Portfolio contains the original Owner’s Manual in fair condition, the
original “Porsche Maintenance Record for USA” with initial delivery information
and some useful notes, the two-page owner’s manual for the radio, and a documentation
letter from Porsche in Germany dated June 18, 1991 confirming the car’s original
engine number, paint color code, and optional equipment (tinted glass, center
seat cushion, alloy wheels). Also
included is a fitted car cover and an extra set of four used but decent 5.5 x
14-inch Fuchs wheels with tires. (see
photos) The steering wheel is obviously not original, though looks period. As a result, horn button does not work. Currently running K&N air filters, but
original filter housing is included (see photo). Currently has headers and sport exhaust, but
original exhaust manifolds/heat exchangers (pitted) are included (see photo).
Front brakes are 911S calipers and rear brakes are 911SC calipers, so there is
no functioning handbrake, but original is included (see photos). Original tool kit is now incomplete and
unimpressive (see photos). The windshield
washer does not work (never considered driving the car when I’d need it). The
original padded, upholstered headliner (standard on the 914-6) has some small
tears near the front latches. Also,
someone along the way attempted to touch up the exterior of the targa top, and
its finish is inconsistent. No spare tire. Very small nick in paint on front
right fender. This vehicle is 43 years old and is being sold as is. No warranty is
expressed written or implied. I will make every effort to disclose any known
defects at buyers request prior to close of sale. It is the responsibility of
buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle and to have satisfied himself or
herself as to the condition and value, and to bid based upon that judgment
solely. I reserve the right to cancel
all existing bids and end the auction early should the vehicle no longer be
available for sale. Payment Information: A deposit of $1000 (non-refundable) must be paid within 2 days of close
of auction. The remaining balance must
be paid by confirmed bank transfer within 10 days. Vehicle must be picked up within 2 weeks. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle. If you choose to have it shipped using a service, I will gladly cooperate for pickup in the Sacramento, California area. On Aug-25-14 at 15:28:59 PDT, seller added the following information: AUCTION UPDATE: I've answered all questions promptly so far and will continue to do so through Thursday, but will be unavailable from Friday through close of auction on Sunday night. Please ask any questions you have before Thursday PM. And I will continue to make the car available for inspection by prospective buyers through Thursday as well. Thanks much for all the interest. |

Petrolicious explores long-term living with Porsche's 914/6
Thu, 15 May 2014After its last video starred none other than the spectacular Ferrari 250 GTO, where was there for the video team at Petrolicious to go? Certainly, in the realm of classics, there are only a few other vehicles that can match the badge and pedigree of the ultra-rare Ferrari. Maybe a Jaguar D-Type or an Aston Martin DBR1? No, this latest video doesn't star either of those British icons. It stars an oft-misunderstood, occasionally derided entry from Germany's most sporting manufacturer - Porsche.
Yes, we've gone from a Ferrari 250 GTO to a Porsche 914/6. As is often the case with Petrolicious, though, the story told about the car by its owner are often more important than the make or model of car being highlighted. That's exactly the case here, as Jack Griffin talks about the 38 years he's spent with this particular Porsche.
Having been born into the Volkswagen fold and introduced to Porsche in the best way possible - behind the wheel of a 356 - Griffin has some interesting stories (including his attempt at running the 12 Hours of Sebring), and he knows a fair bit about some of the 914's attributes.
Porsche rolls out new 919 Hybrid at racing gala
Mon, 16 Dec 2013That Porsche is returning to Le Mans next year with a top-tier LMP1 entry is no news - we've known that for some time. We've even seen pictures of the car in question undergoing testing at various racetracks across Europe, been told who'll be driving it and given some basic parameters of what will make it go. We just haven't known what to call it, but now we do.
In detailing its full endurance racing program for next year at its Night of Champions in Weissach, Porsche has revealed that its new LMP1 racecar will be called the 919 Hybrid. So, something like the 918 Spyder, only one faster. With a four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors, the 919 Hybrid will be taking on the top class at Le Mans next year, with a compelling roster of drivers on the docket: along with Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani, Porsche has assigned its works driver Marc Lieb and F1 test driver Brendon Hartley to the effort. But that's not all Porsche has in store.
The factory is also supporting teams that will campaign the 911 RSR in the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as the United SportsCar Championship here in the US, taking Porsche off the pit wall and right in the race seat for next year as part of a comprehensive new racing program, details of which you can read in the press release below.
Editors' Picks June 2024: Some German SUVs and an excellent sports car
Fri, Jul 5 2024This month sees some recently-refreshed luxury SUVs join the list of Editors' Picks. Both the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne are fresh for 2024, and both are extremely tempting luxury performance SUVs for the well-off buyer. The vast array of powertrains available for both of them ensure there's a version for all comers, and any enthusiast would adore the extra-high-performance versions of both. Of course, enthusiasts will enjoy the last car on this month's list the most with the Lotus Emira. It's simply spectacular to drive, and we can't recommend it enough to the hardcore driver. In case you missed previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. You'll find the entire list of Editors' Picks at this link here, which we keep updated as cars are either added or dropped from the list. The vehicles youÂ’ll find below consist of every car we rated in June that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2024 BMW X5 2024 BMW X5 M Competition View 41 Photos Quick take: The X5 is most desirable in its PHEV and M60i V8 trims, but the whole lineup is extremely competent and brings together excellent performance, excess luxury and cutting-edge tech for its segment. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, Maserati Levante, Genesis GV80, Audi Q8 Pros: Superb to drive with knockout powertrains; excellent utility and creative features; styling is sporty and attractive but not over the top Cons: Infotainment system can be a pain; M Competition model is a little over the top; gets pricey quick with options From the editors: Senior Editor, Electric John Beltz Snyder — "I really like the dual-opening liftgate/tailgate combo. The liftgate portion up top opens quickly, allowing you to throw something inside or grab something out of the back. Flipping down the lower tailgate part gives you a nice place to sit and change shoes. Another benefit is that you can open the liftgate without unsecured items immediately falling out. And with the way the X5 M Competition encourages you to drive it hard, you will end up shifting loose cargo around at some point." Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I'd snag the X5 M60i out of all the various X5 variants.
