1973 Porsche 914  photos and descriptions

I am strongly suggesting that you review all photos and descriptions in before bidding.

As an overview, I am including a number of photographs and descriptions in this auction as well.  The best thing about this 914 is that, with its California origins, it is virtually rust free. There is no rust in the hellhole, battery tray or rockers. Older refinish in the original signal orange code # L20E. Paint is still shiny with no chips or scratches, just a bit old but shows well. There has never been any body damage or accidents. Another positive is its high level of originality. Where I've replaced parts, I've tried to use OEM Porsche parts as extensively as possible from Stoddard or the Porsche dealer. The odometer reading of 69,593 is correct and represents original miles.

This Porsche starts easily and runs well. It has the original numbers matching 1.7 and factory fuel injection that performs flawlessly. All hoses have been replaced with original braded cloth style and a recent tune-up ensures the car starts and runs perfectly, no excuses, no smoke, no noises. Handling is exceptional, steers straight and stops in a straight line. Brakes and calipers have been serviced and replaced as needed.

Chrome bumpers are dent and scratch free. Included with the car is the original tool kit, spare tire and jack as well as the original owners manual. All electric components work including the rear heater motor. Fuchs rims are very nice with no curbing or scrapes. The previous owner sprayed a cheap undercoating on the bottom floor pan years ago, I removed some of it with solvent to expose the original signal orange put there by the factory. Although this is a DIY job it probably saved the underside from corrosion and can be removed with minor but messy effort.

The interior is almost perfect, no dash cracks, seats and panels have no rips, tears or stains. No marks in any of the glass. The original radio works. Seats slide smoothly, has the rear window defog option. Windows crank up and down smoothly. Targa top fits tight and is water proof, seals are in good condition. (For detailed pictures of any aspects of the car, please view the extensive photo album)

I am a collector of early 911s and 356 Porsche. This car doesn’t fit with my collection but when it came up for sale it was too nice of an original example to pass up. I only collect exceptional factory original examples, fortunately for the next owner I have put this 914 up for sale to make way for a more vintage Porsche.  Email me for a link to over 150 high resolution photos showing every aspect of the car. I want the future owner to know exactly what they are getting with no surprises. I have shipped overseas, (  Germany, Great Britain, Denmark and Holland) as well as anywhere in North America. Email me for a list of transport companies and overseas shippers that I personally have used as well as members of our PCA region have recommended. Calgary to Rotterdam $2500,- $2800, Calgary to Los Angeles $1500-$1800 Shipping is the buyers responsibility but I will assist in preparing the car for shipping as well as assisting with customs documents and ensuring the car is shipped in a safe and timely manner. I have been a collector of Porsche cars and memorabilia for 20 years as well as an active member of PCA and have a 100% feedback score which I strive to maintain so bid with confidence.

Shipping costs and shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the winning bidder.  A non-refundable deposit of $1,000.00 via PayPal due within 48 hours of auction ending.  Remainder of amount due within 7 days of auction ending via certified funds or bank wire transfer. I can assist with shipping anywhere in the world but shipping is the buyer expense.  No warranty is expressed or implied.  The winning bidder will receive bill of sale along with title/registration upon receipt and verification of full payment.  I have also listed the car for sale locally and reserve the right to pull the auction at any time.  If your feedback rating is less than 10, please contact me before bidding. Thanks for looking, and please e-mail with any questions.

Porsche Cayman gets a new face

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

We've already seen photos of the facelifted Porsche Boxster out testing, but we're now seeing these same changes making their way onto the hardtop Cayman coupe. Cosmetically, the next round of Porsche's smallest sports cars isn't vastly different, with redesigned headlamps, LED running lights (like its big brother, the 911), and new taillamps that actually aren't visible on the prototype seen here.
The big news for the updated Boxster/Cayman range is the long-rumored four-cylinder engine. Recent reports suggest we could see four-pots with displacements of 1.6, 2.0, or 2.5 liters, and with output ratings as high as 360 horsepower. Of course, these new four-cylinder mills would be both turbocharged and direct-injected.
It's unclear whether or not the six-cylinder engine range will also be updated when this new Cayman comes to market. In any case, we expect to see it bow in the relatively near future. Stay tuned.

Trump reportedly says he wants to wipe German cars off the U.S. map

Thu, May 31 2018

BERLIN/FRANKFURT — A report that U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pursue German carmakers until there are no Mercedes-Benz rolling down New York's Fifth Avenue dented shares in the luxury car manufacturers on Thursday. An excerpt from German magazine Wirtschaftswoche's article, which cited several unnamed European and U.S. diplomats but did not include any direct quotes, could not be independently verified, while a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Berlin referred questions to Washington. The news and current affairs magazine said Trump had told French President Emmanuel Macron in April that he aimed to push German carmakers out of the United States altogether. Macron's administration in Paris declined to comment on the report. The Trump administration last week opened a so-called Section 232 trade investigation into vehicle imports, which could result in a 25 percent tariff on cars on the same "national security" grounds Washington used to impose metals duties in March. This could destroy exports by German carmakers, which control 90 percent of the U.S. premium market and are the biggest European Union exporters of cars to the United States. BMW owns Rolls-Royce, while Daimler has Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen controls Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and Audi. Daimler, BMW and Audi declined comment. Porsche was not immediately available for comment. BMW shares were trading 0.5 percent lower at 0939 GMT, while Daimler and VW's shares were down 1 percent and 1.6 percent respectively, underperforming Germany's blue-chip DAX. Trump has railed against German carmakers before. And in early 2017, in an interview with German newspaper Bild, he said he would impose 35 percent tariffs on imported cars. At the time, the president called Germany a great car producer but said that the business relationship with the United States was an unfair one-way street. Germany's auto industry association VDA says its members exported 657,000 vehicles to North America last year, with total exports of vehicle components, cars, engines, as well as second-hand vehicles totaling 31.2 billion euros in 2016. Imports from the United States to Germany amounted to 7.4 billion euros, meaning a trade deficit of 23.8 billion euros the VDA's latest available figures show. However, German brands also have huge factories in the United States, where they built 804,000 cars last year, VDA said, providing jobs for U.S. workers. Berlin has reacted angrily to the U.S.

James May's 1984 Porsche 911 is priced to sell at Goodwood

Thu, Jun 18 2015

James May needs money. He's out of work, has payments to make on his Ferrari, and has resorted to doing less than stellar work to make ends meet. He and his colleague Richard Hammond sold their motorcycles to raise some extra scratch, and now Captain Slow is selling his Porsche, too. Of course, with years of paychecks form Top Gear and other TV appearances, several books, and a weekly column in The Daily Telegraph, it's unlikely that May is worried about debtor's prison. Mostly because that doesn't exist in the UK anymore, but also because he's probably loaded. The vehicle in question is a 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera, complete with air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six. He became acquainted with the car in 2007 when he borrowed it from specialist Paul Devyea to record a Radio 4 documentary, and evidently fell in love, so he bought it. He even had it on air for a couple of specials for Top Gear and James May's Toy Stories. He loaned it to his dad for a while, but with his time on Top Gear now at an end, he's consigned it to Bonhams (the same house that handled his bike sale) to auction off at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. Its pre-sale estimate is quoted at GBP28,000-34,000 ($44-53k), which would seem a bit low – especially considering its celebrity provenance and low 55,000 miles on the odometer. Bonhams specialist Sholto Gilbertson tells Autoblog that "the estimate placed on the car has been designed to attract interest and ultimately achieve a stronger price for Mr. May."
