1974 Porsche 914
California Car
Under 75,000 Original Miles
Targa Top

Up for auction is a very nice 1974 Porsche 914, brought to you by Halberd Classics LLC, Classic & Exotic Automobile Brokerage.

Up until the last 5 years ago this great 1974 Porsche 914 had spent its entire life in California.  Now on only her third owner and less than 75,000 original miles later this incredibly fun convertible is in very good condition.

This is not a fully restored Porsche, but something even harder to find and increasingly more sought after by collectors; a well preserved original car.  This 1974 Porsche 914 has just recently had both carburetors rebuilt, a new distributor installed and a basic tune-up, ensuring reliability.   The original 1.8L H4 motor gives this car plenty of gitty up and go.  The fuel injection has been swapped out for a pair of weber 27 carbs.  The 5 speed SIDE SHIFT transmission shifts smoothly through all of the gears.  During its decades in California the car was owned by a Porsche mechanic, who religiously maintained the car; and it shows.   This is an excellent driver and is ready to hit the open road wherever her new owner decides to go.

This 1974 Porsche 914 was repainted only once about 10 years ago.  The paint is starting to show an expected amount of age, but is more than suitable as a driver.  The pictures speak for the interior very accurately and show exactly what you would imagine in any vehicle with only 75,000 miles on the odometer.

Whether you have always wanted a Porsche to take the top off and cruise around, have always loved the 914 Targa or simply want a fun car, this is a great choice.

The vehicle does have a clean and clear Brand A (original mileage) title ready for the new owner.  As this 1974 Porsche 914 is for sale locally, we reserve the right to end the auction early before the reserve has been met.  The reserve has been set to SELL, so bid with confidence and bid to own.

Roger Rodas' widow suing Porsche over Carrera GT crash

Tue, 13 May 2014

Investigations undertaken by local law enforcement may have vindicated Porsche from any wrongdoing in the crash that killed actor Paul Walker and racing driver Roger Rodas last year, but the latter's widow is apparently not convinced. According to emerging reports, Kristine Rodas has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Porsche Cars North America.
In her suit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Rodas' attorney Mark Geragos reportedly disputes the findings of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which asserted that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed of 90 miles per hour on city streets, identifying the speed as the cause of the accident. Instead the lawsuit claims that the vehicle was only going 55 mph and that the cause of the crash was improper equipment - namely a faulty right rear suspension and the lack of a crash cage and proper fuel tank.

Jay Leno puts carbon fiber wheels to the test on a Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

Jay Leno's Garage usually focuses on looking at cars new and old, speaking to their owners and then Jay taking a drive to see what he thinks. However, Leno throws his usual shtick to the curb this week to do a full product test of the carbon fiber wheels from a company called Carbon Revolution. If you're not interested in hearing about wheels for 18 minutes, don't worry. They get mounted on a Porsche and are tested back-to-back with stock wheels, and Leno takes the 911 for a track test, too.
While carbon-fiber wheels aren't exactly a new idea, Carbon Revolution's goal is to create a lightweight, one-piece product that can be mass produced. The company even claims that it already has a deal with an OEM automaker to offer them on a vehicle in a few years. The key to the technology is that it doesn't need an expensive autoclave to be made.
In the meantime, the company's carbon fiber wheels are available as an aftermarket option for about $15,000 a set, according to the video. They weigh in at about 15.5 pounds each and offer OEM-levels of stiffness, so they could cut some unsprung mass off of a performance car. Watch here as Jay and his mechanic Bernard lap Willow Springs and give their feedback about what they think of this cutting-edge technology.

The 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years

Mon, Apr 22 2024

Car maintenance has got to be one of the least fun things you can do with your free time, right behind going to the dentist and filing your taxes. However, depending on the brand you buy, your time spent at the shop could be much more than you bargained for. Consumer Reports’ new study on the most- and least-expensive-to-maintain car brands found that European car companies are most likely to break your wallet with costs nearly five times that of the automakers at the other end of the spectrum. Land Rover had the highest ten-year maintenance costs, at an average of $19,250. Porsche was second worst with $14,090 in costs. 10 car brands most expensive to maintain over 10 years: Land Rover: $19,250 Porsche: $14,090 Mercedes-Benz: $10,525 Audi: $9,890 BMW: $9,500 Volvo: $9,285 Infiniti: $8,500 Acura: $7,800 Mini: $7,625 Subaru: $7,200 The Euro brands at the “top” of this list arenÂ’t all that surprising. Land Rover has consistently landed as one of the most expensive vehicle brands to maintain for years now, though Porsche is generally viewed as being one of the more solid performance brands. That could suggest that some models donÂ’t always require more repairs, but the fixes they do need are significantly more expensive. Tesla, Buick, and Toyota were the three cheapest to maintain car brands, with 10-year maintenance costs of $4,035, $4,900, and $4,900, respectively. Consumer Reports noted that these numbers could be slightly skewed due to the fact that some automakers offer free maintenance for the first few years of ownership, and all companies cover their new vehicles for at least a few years after the purchase. Routine maintenance is a great way to avoid costly repairs over time, as itÂ’s much cheaper to catch a problem before it starts causing other issues. Check your oil, rotate your tires, and avoid driving like a wild person, and youÂ’ll likely fare much better than others, even if you own one of the scarier-to-maintain brands.
