Nice solid 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 with the somewhat rare Can Am LE option. These came in two color schemes and the black/yellow cars are sometimes referred to as "Bumblebees". My car started out life with the factory painted yellow bumpers, wheels and rocker panels but they were changed to the regular 914 chrome bumpers and forged 914 Fuchs rims at some point in the car's life. These could easily be changed back to make the car its original color scheme. It retains its original LE front spoiler.

Please read the entire description before asking questions.

I've called PCNA to get the build info but have not ordered the COA yet. I can confirm with a potential buyer that the car came equipped as follows;

C02 USA equip
002 USA lights
568 tinted side windows
778 Can Am LE option

Car was serviced and maintained by AASE in Fullerton through two previous owners. They dug up records for a trans rebuild and clutch job several years ago but car has been used as a weekend track/AX car for over 20 years, so not many miles. Drives and shifts exceptionally well. It has its original FI but engine case is a factory replacement with no #s. It is a correct, stock 1974 2.0, though, and it runs strong and smooth with no smoke or other signs of wear.

The stock seats are gone and racing seats sit on stock rails and adjustments. Dashboard is very clean and all stock functions work as they should including heat/ventilation/aux. fans and all lights and signals+horn. It is in extremely solid mechanical condition.

The car sits on Kumho DOT slicks that have a lot of rubber left and are surprisingly still soft. It has 5 factory 914 forged Fuchs rims. Pagid racing pads are currently installed and the car stops *right now* but they are squeaky on the street. Konis all around and stiffer rear springs but I don't know how many lbs. they are. Additional chassis bracing welded from rear suspension points to rear tub under car. These could be removed in a restoration fairly easily. Aftermarket front sway bar with adjustments.

Car has been resprayed at some point but in original black. Plenty of stone chips on hood and scratches, etc. Rear trunk hinge bracket has broken loose but new one just arrived from UPS yesterday. Common 914 issue and simple weld fix. Factory gaps are good with the exception of right rear fender which is excessive. I do not know the nature of the repair because it was before my ownership. I've shown this in one of the photos. Both front and rear panels show no evidence of ever being hit or repaired. Car still has old racing numbers and graphics.

The odometer is not working and I do not know how many miles it has but the mechanic who serviced the car for years recalls it being fairly low mileage. All other gauges and controls work properly.

My plan was to restore this car to stock condition but other projects are taking priority. It's a blast to drive as-is but a little stiff on the street. The engine was rebuilt or replaced at some point with the factory replacement case and it does not leak a drop. It runs very strong like a 2.0 should. SSI stainless heat exchangers are installed and heat works fantastic. All stock and original fuel injection is present and the car runs great.

The body is very solid and mostly rust-free, the only exceptions that have been found are in the sheet metal behind rocker under left side jack point. The jack point itself is completely solid and all other parts of the longitudinal part of the tub are excellent, including the passenger side which is mint. The hell hole under the battery has been patched/repaired in the past but it's a very nice job. The floors/trunk and other rust-prone areas all look great.

This is a 40 year old car being sold as-is with no warranties either expressed or implied and in-person physical inspections are welcomed and strongly encouraged. I'd be happy to drive the car to any reputable Porsche shop in the Los Angeles metropolitan area for a PPI. It is currently registered with tabs for 2014 and has a clean CA. title in my name. It's an excellent restoration candidate or a fun weekend canyon/track toy as it is.

Thanks you for looking and please use the eBay message feature to contact me and get phone number.

On Jan-27-14 at 11:30:44 PST, seller added the following information:

EDIT: Couple of things I forgot; the car has a Bursch muffler, the graphics are stickers and can be removed with a blow dryer and some adhesive remover but they've been on for a while so slight PIA. With two days left, it has 83 watchers but no one has asked to actually see it or inspect it. I've made my listing as accurate as possible but it's an old car and physical inspections before the end of the auction are strongly encouraged. Not afterwards. Please feel free to call me @ (323) 972-3801 from 8am to 10pm Pacific time to arrange test drives and inspections. Thanks.

Former Porsche execs acquitted of stock manipulation charges

Fri, Mar 18 2016

A German court acquitted former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and former CFO Holger Harter of stock manipulation charges, according to Bloomberg. Prosecutors alleged the men hid plans to takeover Volkswagen while publicly denying their intentions to investors. The presiding judge didn't find any merit to those claims, though. "There is nothing to the allegations, absolutely nothing," Judge Frank Maurer said, according to Bloomberg. "There was no secret plan to take over VW." Rather than Porsche taking over VW, the exact opposite eventually happened, and both execs stepped down. Investigators first indicted Wiedeking and Harter for alleged stock manipulation in late 2012. A court in Stuttgart dismissed the case in 2014 because of a lack of evidence, but an appeals court later overruled that decision. The current trial finally began in October 2015. If convicted, Wiedeking faced up to 30 months in prison, and Harter could have received up to 27 months, Bloomberg reported. Prosecutors also wanted one million euro ($1.1 million) fines from them and 807 million euros ($910 million) from Porsche. The acquittal might not be the end of this long-running case, though. In Germany, prosecutors have the right to appeal a ruling, and the lawyer hasn't made a final decision yet. If the court thinks there's a reason, the former execs could be back in front of a judge at some point in the future.

Watch Jeff Zwart drive his Porsche GT3 Cup Turbo at Pikes Peak in 4K

Fri, Jul 10 2015

There are always fantastic videos documenting the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, but 2015 is giving us an embarrassment of riches. After seeing clips from some of the record-breaking runs this year, possibly the very best is here somewhat belatedly after the rally. Watching master Porsche pilot Jeff Zwart wind his fire-breathing 911 GT3 Cup Turbo up the mountain was definitely worth the wait. Already no stranger to success at Pikes Peak, this year Zwart won the Time Attack 1 Class with a run of 9:46.243. To make the feat more exciting, his Porsche was outfitted with cameras to perfectly capture his entire race up the course. The external shots truly convey a sense of speed and show how the mountain goes from tree-lined at the bottom to rocky with patches of snow at the top. The film's sublime production shouldn't be too big of a surprise, though, because Will Roegge was director, editor, and among the camera operators for the video. In 2014, he put together a great, short documentary about Zwart's preparation for the mountain and the run, as well. This year was yet another success. At a breezy 4.5 minutes, this clip is definitely a must-see, and the entire thing looks and sounds fantastic no matter how your experience it. However, if you have the capability, the video is also available in 4K. Switching over to the high resolution really makes it possible to pick out all of the gorgeous details. Related Video:

Porsche is planning a hybrid version of the 911

Fri, Mar 11 2016

Changes at Porsche are coming thick and hot. It's been a few decades since the last major engine technology change – the very dramatic shift from air- to water-cooling. Now we're seeing a turbo shift, in which even pedestrian 911s, Caymans, and Boxsters are being fitted with turbos. Next up is hybrid proliferation throughout the manufacturer's full range. Hybrids aren't new to the Porsche lineup, of course. The Panamera hybrid has appeared in two forms, one in 2012 and one in 2015. Likewise, the Cayenne hybrid was recently upgraded to plug-in spec. The 918 Spyder is also a plug-in hybrid. The 911, Cayman, and Boxster have been left off the hybridization program so far, but that's about to change. The 911 is "next in line" for hybrid tech, says Lutz Meschke, a board member at Porsche AG. That means we'll likely see a hybrid 911 before the fully-electric production Mission E arrives. Every Porsche model will eventually get a gas-electric option, so the Macan crossover and 718 Boxster and Cayman will follow the iconic sports car's lead soon. The turbocharged base 911 has fractured critical opinion somewhat, although we loved our first drive of the 2017 911 Carrera with its twin-turbo flat-six engine. Do you fear or welcome the coming hybrid epoch? Let us know in the comments. Related Video:
