I've had this car for a few years and upgrades during that time have included new paint in the original color of Bahia Red, new leather seat upholstery, restoration of the 911 Fuchs wheels, new tires, new clutch, new windshield, new light lenses, and many other small details. The previous owner (of 15 years) upgraded the car to 911 suspension, 911 brakes, and Bilstein shocks. Needless to say, it handles and stops like a dream.

This car still has its original fuel injection and fires right up without delay every time. It's a good-looking, excellent-running, and fun driver, yet it is far from flawless. Items that still require attention include (but are not limited to):

  • Passenger outside door latch not working. There's a small plastic piece inside these that is probably broken. The door opens fine from the inside.
  • The previous owner installed an aggressively low front valence (see photos). I recently removed this in order to make dealing with driveways and speed bumps less annoying, however I will include the valence with the sale.
  • Dashboard needs to be replaced or recovered.
  • After having the car repainted, the rear trunk lid fit is a little off on the passenger side (see photos). I don't know what the painters did to cause this and I don't know how to repair it on my own or I would have done it prior to putting the car up for sale. It's only a minor cosmetic flaw, yet I wouldn't leave the car sitting out on a rainy day just in case water might be able to leak into the trunk. In fact, I wouldn't leave this car sitting out on a rainy day anyway.
  • All window seals (except for the windshield, which was recently replaced) are old and most likely original. It's probably time to replace them. In the meantime, there will be wind noise if you drive with the top on and the windows up. (Yeah, right. Like you're actually going to be driving this toy with the top on and the windows up!)
  • It leaks oil. You want to place something under the car to prevent staining your garage floor. I've looked into repairing this, and have basically been told that it's something that should be addressed (engine seals) when I'm ready to completely rebuild the motor. Since the car runs strong, I've decided to just live with the oil leak in the meantime.
  • There might be other things I'm not thinking about at the moment. Come see it in person!

I prefer local buyers so that you can see the car in person first. That said, the last two cars I sold on eBay went out of state and the buyers were happy (see my feedback). If you want it shipped, you make the arrangements. Also, I prefer cash, but PayPal will work as well. If you have another method of payment in mind, please contact me to discuss this BEFORE making on offer or clicking on Buy It Now.

See what the Chevy C7 ZR1 may be benchmarked against

Tue, 07 May 2013

One of the greatest things every Corvette has had going for it, and also one of the most re-used arguments against it, is its price-to-performance equation - long before the Nissan GT-R became the de facto Porsche 911 comparator the Corvette spent decades as Exhibit A. Depending on which side of the argument you stressed, supporters crowed about how much performance you got for how (comparatively) little, detractors carped on how little you got everywhere else in the bargain.
It appears Chevrolet is working as hard as ever to render the argument meaningless. Spy shooters at KGP captured a convocation of European birds of prey leaving the General Motors test center, and aimed at benchmarking the C7 Corvette ZR1. The road train comprised of two C7 Corvette Stingrays, a 2013 Corvette ZR1, McLaren MP4-12C, Ferrari 458 Italia, Audi R8 V10 Spyder and Porsche 911 Carrera S and it was last seen heading down the same kinked-up back roads used to hone the Corvette Stingray.
The C7-series ZR1 and its possible 700 horsepower are still a ways off. If it really is being positioned to compete with the celestial exotica in the testing group, could it be the first Corvette to regularly be the first answer to the question "Cost no object, which would would you rather have?"

Seinfeld takes Seth Meyers out in the perfect Porsche

Sat, 13 Jul 2013

The latest episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee features Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live fame riding shotgun in what is a very special Porsche from host Jerry Seinfeld's collection: a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Seinfeld chose the "no-nonsense" sports car because he thought it fit his guest's personality (Meyers thinks motorcycles "are like the cigarette of transportation"), but we enjoy the chance to see one of these rare, über-valuable Porsches being driven on city streets - and in the rain, no less! What we don't like seeing is the Carrera RS being parallel parked behind a pick-up truck, though, fortunately, it seems that Seinfeld was able to avoid any front-end damage to the comparatively fragile Porsche.
Once at the coffee shop, the two comedians have a candid conversation about Meyers' time with SNL, from his early days on the show when he didn't think he was good enough to be a cast member to some of the high points in his career, such as SNL's "Really!?" segment that he performed in and how he became a writer for the show.
After coffee, when they're back in the car and Seinfeld opens up the throttle of the lightweight RS 2.7, he manages to eke out a big grin from Meyers - or maybe it was a grimace at the thought of driving in the rain on old tires. Whatever the case, be sure to watch the video below (and stay tuned until the end for a surprise).

2014 Porsche Cayman S

Second Fiddle Moves To First Chair
In the interest of full disclosure and a bit of bloodletting, allow me to admit that while I've always coveted the Porsche Boxster and its hard-hatted Cayman cousin, I've never really warmed to them visually. They've always had a certain push-me, pull-you, can't-decide-which-way-they're-going aesthetic that I've never really wrapped my head around. Porsche achieved the same thing with the original 550 Spyder's overturned bathtub bodyshell that would come to inspire the Boxster, but somehow that classic's even more symmetrical nature works for me. Fast-forward to this third generation, and at least for this enthusiast, Porsche's manchild has well and truly come of age as a design.
It's all there - a piercing stare thanks to squircle headlamps inspired by the 918 Spyder hypercar, newfound directional thrust afforded by a longer wheelbase and elongated greenhouse, and muscular rear haunches with a wider stance emphasized by larger side ductwork and snubbed overhangs. The body's teardrop shape terminates with an active spoiler that integrates into a gorgeous arc with the taillamps like a budding ducktail nod to 1973 911 Carrera RS. Despite casting a longer shadow than its predecessor, the 2014 Cayman still looks tidily proportioned, smooth and wieldy, the perfect skipping stone to ricochet down a canyon river road.
