1974 914 2.0 Limited Edition In Original Condition on 2040-cars

Only 1000 Limited Edition 914s were built and 500 of them were Creamsicles, a color scheme of Light Ivory and Pheonix Red. This car is one of only 86 Creamsicles known to still exist. I have a Certificate of Authenticity for this car from Porsche, confirming that this is a genuine Limited Edition car. You can learn more about these special cars by searching for the Can Am Registry. This one is listed under 15066. I am fortunate in that this is the second 914LE I have owned. I had one in the early 1980s that I kept for quite a few years. This one is actually nicer than the one I had then, that was less than 10 years old when I bought it. As you can see from the pictures, this car appears to have been treated with loving care for all its life. This 914 is in very original condition. The paint, interior (including an 8-track am/fm radio), and engine are all original and the car still looks great, and runs and drives beautifully. The 2.0 engine has the original mechanical fuel injection, which has never given me any problems at all. I’ve owned the car for 10 years after buying it from a gentleman in Asheville North Carolina. To my knowledge, there are only a few minor things that are not original. After purchasing it I had the fuel pump moved from its original position to the Porsche recommended location, forward of the engine compartment. I bought new reproduction center caps for the wheels, new reproduction lug nut covers, the battery, tires (except for the spare which is original), and a new tail light lens cover. Everything in the car works, except for the clock, the cold-start valve, and the odometer. The clock worked when I bought it and for several years afterwards, but it likely needs lubricating now. The hands move occasionally, but it no longer keeps any semblance of time, like it once did. The cold-start valve is not really needed in my climate, so I simply unhooked and capped the hose leading to it and the car starts right up winter or summer here with no issues. The odometer stopped not many drives ago after I tried to reset the trip-meter to zero. That apparently jammed something. The miles showing are 49,068 and I do not believe that the car has been driven more than 500 miles since the odometer stopped. Several years ago I had the car shipped via professional enclosed car carrier to Automobile Atlanta for expert service. They replaced the original battery tray with an exact duplicate of the original and found no rust problems beneath the tray. They serviced the car and replaced a few worn parts and hoses with OEM parts, or replicated parts when OEM was no longer available. All of the gauges work and the heater, original radio, fog lights, pop-up headlights, intermittent and two speed windshield wipers, hazard lights, etcetera work very well. The very nice original condition of the car is evidence of the low mileage and the care with which it has been driven and maintained. A previous owner of the car was a Amateur Radio enthusiast and had an antenna installed on the rear truck lid. The installation created a drill-hole in the rear trunk lid, but it was well capped-off when I bought it and has been fine since. There are no rust issues. Other than a few surface spots in the front trunk and on the battery tray (literally just started surface discoloration and pictured below) I am aware of no rust whatsoever. The car is located in North Carolina and as long as I have owned the car, it has always been garaged. The 1974 New York tag on the car is one I bought on ebay because in NC you can run tags the year of the car, as long as the regular tag is in the vehicle. North Carolina does issue titles for vintage cars and I do have the clear title to it. |

Leno, Seinfeld and a Porsche 356/2 featured in latest CICGC
Sun, 19 Jan 2014In the latest kaffeeklatsch known as Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld pulls Jay Leno out of his garage for a trip to Jones Coffee in Pasadena, CA. The NBC funnyman we've lately seen driving two guest Porsches in his eponymous garage this time takes the passenger seat in a 1949 Porsche 356/2, one of early all-aluminum, hand-built coupes - still in 100-percent original condition - built in Gmund, Austria and nicknamed "Gmunds."
The comedy veterans have known one another for 35 years, so the episode is rich with stories of The Good Old Days. Leno says it is also the first time he's ever had a cup of coffee, and for obvious comedic reasons they start with the civet-stained beans made famous in The Bucket List. Porsche 918 Spyder with Weissach package does 0-62 mph in 2.6 seconds
Mon, 18 Nov 2013Porsche marketers are having a field day with the 918 Spyder after some last-minute tuning improved the car's performance. They now say that it's so fast it's already beaten itself. Let us explain: Using a Weissach package-equipped 918 as an example (which reduces the plug-in hybrid supercar's weight through the deletion of some interior items, more generous use of carbon fiber and magnesium wheels), the car's previous official 0-62 miles-per-hour time of 2.8 seconds has been cut to 2.6. Additionally, 0-124 mph takes 7.2 seconds and 0-186 mph is dispatched in 19.9 seconds, times that were reduced by half a second and 2.1 seconds, respectively.
In all-electric mode, a non-Weissach pack 918 does 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds (with the package, 6.1 seconds), down from 6.9 seconds. Efficiency is also improved thanks to the final tuning. The New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) rating of a Weissach pack-equipped car equates to 94 miles per gallon, up three mpg compared to before. That's pretty good for a car with 887 horsepower!

Porsche 911 GT3 RS facing delay over GT3 fire problems?
Mon, 24 Mar 2014Porsche has never been afraid to introduce variants of its cars. However, its even higher spec, next-generation 911 GT3 RS may be delayed from its planned launch this summer while the engines in the standard GT3s (pictured above) are replaced.
A delay isn't certain, but executives want to make sure the high-strung mill is no longer a problem before they press forward with another model using it. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport asked Porsche CEO Matthias Müller about pushing back the launch, and he responded that it was too early to say. The company's current focus is making sure the engines get fixed and working on internal measures to prevent this kind of flaw in the future.
When fires claimed two 911 GT3s in Europe, Porsche initially stopped the model's sales and asked owners to stop driving them. It finally diagnosed the blazes as being caused by a loose screw on a connecting rod, which then resulted in crankcase damage and an oil leak. The company is replacing the engines on all 785 affected cars. A source told Autoblog that under 200 customers were actually affected, and the other cars were either at port or dealer lots. Hopefully, the recall doesn't postpone the road-going GT3 RS too far because we want to see what Porsche has up its sleeve.
