I am selling what was my father in laws 1973 Porsche 914 2.0.  It is a strong running 2.0 and runs well, starts right up and shifts nicely as well.  The odometer reads 104k miles and it holds oil very well. The engine has some oil dampness on the bottum, but I see only one drop every 6 months to a year.  The heat is hooked up and puts out a lot of heat.   It was originally black and was repainted at one point to red.  The current paint is about 15 year old enemal and I would call the paint job a 7 our of 10.   The aluminum trim is in nice condition and the chrome bumpers are some of the nicest I have seen in years.  A new battery tray was  just installed. Door gaps are good.  Overall, the floor pan in very solid.  There is some rust in the rear triangle area for the floors on each side.  Something must have happened in the front at some point.  The piece that the bumper bolts to had been replaced.  There is all 5 fuch rims including the spare which are nice, just could use some polishing.   The carpets are very nice.  There are a couple cracks in the dash, a couple small tears in the seats and back pad.  There is a center console with the three gauges.  The breaks work very well with a 19mm 911 master cylinder, the front rotors, wheel bearings and pads are new and the front calipers were rebuilt a couple years ago.  If I were keeping the car I would put on new rear rotors and pads.  There is stainless steel heat exchangers and a hand sewn leather steering wheel.  I have driven the car about 100 miles this spring and it has been a fun driver and reliable.  The car is located about 15 miles south of Ohare airport just outside of Chicago. It could be driven home, or if you have a need for shipping, I have had very good luck with Fed EX auto transport(800-325-4267).  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Good luck bidding!

J.D. Power: Vehicle dependability at all-time high, Lexus and Porsche lead

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Each year, J.D. Power and Associates surveys original owners of three-year-old vehicles to find out what kinds of problems they have had experienced over the last 12 months, and then it uses this data to create its annual Vehicle Dependability Study. This means that the models in the 2013 study are 2010 model year vehicles, and J.D. Power rates each make as well as the top individual models based on how many problems were experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).
Debunking the idea that carryover models are more dependable than new or updated models, the 2013 study found that the average carryover model experienced 133 PP100, while all-new or redesigned vehicles for the 2010 model year had 116 PP100; vehicles that received minor changes fared the best with just 111 PP100. The overall average for all makes was 126 PP100, which is the lowest figure since the findings were first issued in 1989.

Remembering Porsche's illustrious Le Mans history

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

Not only does this weekend mark the running of the 82nd 24 Hours of Le Mans, it will also see the return of one of the race's most venerable brands to the top tiers of endurance racing. Porsche will campaign its first top-flight car since the 1998 911 GT1-98, the 919 Hybrid, at this weekend's race, in the hopes of knocking off its corporate rival, the dominant Audi team.
To understand just what a win for the 919 would mean, though, you need to look back on the intrinsic connection between the Circuit de la Sarthe and Porsche. It's a history that spans decades, dating back to the team's first win in 1970.
XCar has a great video on that history. At 25 minutes, it's a bit on the long side. Then again it is the Friday before Le Mans. Take a look below for the video.

Are you the Porsche Pajun?

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

The prospect of Porsche building a smaller version of the Panamera has been an on-again, off-again proposition as the German automaker seems to go back and forth on the project. Last we heard, Porsche had pushed back the so-called Pajun (shorthand for Panamera Junior) until 2019 at the earliest, but we could be looking at it right here.
The automaker's everything-but-automotive division Porsche Design is working on a luxury condo complex called (simply enough) Porsche Design Tower. It's been three years in the making and will take at least another year or two to complete, but the gist of it is that the 57-floor building will include 132 apartments, each with its own en-suite garage in which the residents' cars will be parked thanks to giant elevators.
Porsche Design released a series of renderings showing what the property will look like once complete. Most of the renderings feature Porsches, of course - production models you can find in any of the brand's showrooms, like the one just 23 miles away in Coral Gables. But one of the renderings of the giant glass elevators shows something rather unusual.
