26,000 original miles, Appearance Group, Completely Original, Like New, California Car Not often does an opportunity like this come to market and I 'm pleased to offer this relatively low mileage 1973 Porsche 914. Completely original in every way down to the Michelin ZX Radials that came new on the car, it is in absolutely beautiful condition as it was never driven in the rain, and stored indoors it's entire life. To open the door, a slight vacuum is created from the original door seals operating as if brand new; the car smells as new as the day it was first offered to the public. This 914 is completely original, unmolested, has not been modified, in other words, bone stock. Here's a brief history on the car: I recently purchased the car from the second owner (a friend of mine) who owned the car since 1976. He purchased the car when it was three years old having only 18,000 miles on it. The original owner purchased this 914 from Martin Johnson's Porsche dealership in Oakland, CA (a suburb of San Francisco in the East Bay), as a weekend driver. As an Oakland police officer, he rarely used used it accumulating very few weekend miles. Realizing he wasn't able to use it as often as he liked, he offered it for sale in 1976 and my friend purchased the car. It had not even been broken in yet. My friend brought the vehicle to Hayward, CA (1976), where it remained in a garage until recently (see pic). After a few years of trying to purchase the vehicle, my Dad who has since passed, really wanted to buy the car, having grown up with Porsche 356's in Florida. I recently followed up with my friend, and with new interests (mainly a restored 1939 5 Window Ford Deluxe Coupe) he agreed to sell me the car. My friend and his father eat, sleep and breathe Volkswagens. His father (deceased) purchased his first VW in 1955, and the love affair with the marque began. Over the past fifty years until 2007, they have been working on and building VW motors for both street and race application. Needless to say, this 914 was well maintained in the short amount of time it was driven. Having only driven it 6,000 miles since he purchased it from the cop, the car was covered and forgotten about as new exciting projects came through the door. Periodically, he would drive the car to cycle the fluids but this only amounted to a minimal amount of miles. The battery tray is perfect, as is the "hell hole" as it was stored without the battery installed to avoid corrosion. This 914 comes with it's original Porsche Tool Kit and Factory Service record authenticating mileage. Important: This car is being offered as found. I have never attempted to start the vehicle as it's my opinion that the fuel lines should be replaced. In fact, after this much time, I would replace both the fuel and brake rubber lines although they visually appear to be ok. Notable Attributes: ~Appearance Group Car- including chrome bumpers, vinyl and aluminum rollbar trim, dual horns, foglamps, cast aluminum wheels, leather steering wheel and shift boot trim, pile carpeting, as well as a center console with an armrest and storage area, and anti-roll bars on 2.0-liter cars. ~Original tool kit ~Factory Porsche 914 Mechanics Manual ~Factory Service log authenticating mileage Body, Paint, and Chrome: As a life-long West Coast Porsche from a dry climate, it is as original, straight, and as solid as they come, without accidents or repair of any kind. It has been stored in a heated garage since 1976. All sheet metal is original and straight, having excellent panel fit/gaps throughout. Sporting it's original black paint, which is in overall very good condition it shows minimal wear; a few small scratches here and there having been rubbed against while under a car cover indoors. One thing to note: the front driver side fender was lightly tapped by an engine stand at the bottom of the wheel arch. I chose to leave it rather than fixing it to maintain originality, leaving that decision to the potential new owner. Please see the pictures. The pan/floor is exceptionally clean and original with factory paint and all original rubber in very good condition. The engine compartment is clean and correct. All brightwork is exceptional as is the targa top. All lenses are excellent originals. The windshield and glass are excellent. The boot/luggage compartment is near perfect, original and all zinc coatings on the bolts. No condition issue to note. Interior: The entire interior is original and correct. All gauges are functional and working correctly. Again, he interior is near perfect and completely original. It smells brand new. Wheels and Tires: The original matched set of Mahle alloys wheels are exceptionally clean and straight. The 914 still sports it original Michelin ZX tires from the factory. 185/15 thin white wall tires are old and hold air but should be replaced. Summaration: This 1973 Porsche 914 is a survivor, and with such low miles, pretty rare. It is an extremely original and honest California car, and with no adverse history showing only minimal wear. It has only one minor cosmetic issues as described above. and is a survivor. A good investment grade Porsche due to the low miles, this particular car has a consistent fit and finish throughout and will maintain it's quality for years to come. This 914 is sold with a clear California title and all documentation. To be honest, I'm not sure what the car is worth so I have set a reserve based on a discussions with a few different people involved in the local Porsche scene. I am by no means an expert on these cars or the market See all photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/34047174@N03/sets/72157639667783206/ or click HERE! 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid is one mean green machine
Sat, 20 Apr 2013The entire Porsche Panamera lineup gets a refresh for the 2014 model year, and new additions to the range include two long-wheelbase models and this E-Hybrid fuel-sipper that makes its debut here at the Shanghai Motor Show. And, well, we say "fuel-sipper lightly."
Porsche has packed its hybrid Panamera with 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque, and that certainly makes for one quick sedan-hatchback-thing. Hitting 60 miles per hour will reportedly take just 5.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 167 mph. And while Porsche hasn't revealed specific powertrain details, the company says that the S E-Hybrid "improves upon the concept offered by the previous Panamera S Hybrid with a more powerful electric motor," which leads us to believe that the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine at the heart of it all still remains intact.
Fuel economy numbers (or estimates) have not been released as of this writing, but we expect to have that information closer to the car's on-sale date later this year. As for the new battery system, Porsche says that when plugged into a 240-volt charging station, it can be fully charged in just two and a half hours. When topped off, the Panamera S E-Hybrid should have an electric driving range of around 20 miles at speeds up to 84 mph, though, obviously, not at the same time.
700 horsepower Porsche GT2 RS is the wildest 911 ever
Fri, Jun 30 2017The Porsche 911 comes in a variety of flavors, each filling a certain taste for a certain customer. Sitting atop the range is the new 911 GT2 RS. In previous generations, the GT2 had a bit of a reputation as a widowmaker, a 911 with massive power that could snap and bite with the slightest agitation. Porsche says the new model has been civilized, but with 700 horsepower going to the rear wheels, we're sure it's going to be as mad as ever. Power comes from a highly massaged version of the 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Turbo S. The rear-mounted engine makes an outrageous 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Like we previously reported, the new car will use water injection to help keep things cool. The only transmission is Porsche's PDK. While enthusiasts may lament the loss of the manual, the RS models have always been about performance above all else. Simply put, the PDK is the better performance option. All that power translates to a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph. The engine makes 80 more horsepower than the previous model. That makes it the most powerful road-going 911 ever built. In fact, the 887 horsepower 918 Spyder is the only road-going Porsche that makes more power. The fact that Porsche trusts all of that power to go to the rear is both thrilling and terrifying at the same time. In order to manage traction, the GT2 RS gets a number of upgrades. Rear-wheel steering has become commonplace in the 911 lineup, so it's no surprise to see it here. Sticky tires with 265/35 ZR 20 section rubber at the front and 325/30 ZR 21 section rubber at the rear keep things planted. That comically large rear wing adds downforce, adding to stability. The car gets standard carbon ceramic brakes. While some people prefer traditional rotors for the street, like the PDK, this is all about performance. A number of intakes and outlets complement the rear wing and maximize aerodynamic efficiency. It's a bit of a surprise that with all the focus on downforce, the GT2 RS still manages to top out at 211 mph. The hood, front wings, wheel housing vents, door mirrors, side air intakes, parts of the rear end, and a number of interior components are all made from carbon fiber. The roof has been made of magnesium. If you want to drop any pretense of civility and comfort in the pursuit of speed, Porsche is offering a Weissach package that shaves off another 40 pounds from the already impressive wet weight of 3,241.
2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid
Tue, 09 Jul 2013Porsche's Performance Plug-in Preamble
By the end of this year, Porsche will be producing as many plug-in vehicles (two) as mainstream automakers such as Toyota, Chevrolet and Honda. Before the 2015 918 Spyder hybrid supercar goes on sale in the US, though, it will be warming its customers up to the idea of a plug-in model with the 2014 Panamera S E-Hybrid. A step up from the previous Panamera S Hybrid, the new plug-in Panamera adds a more powerful and advanced electric drive system that pledges to deliver the performance expected of a Porsche with the added benefit of improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
Going on sale in November, the Panamera S E-Hybrid is aimed at customers also considering the upcoming plug-in version Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but the car's dimensions and performance could make it a competitor for Tesla Model S customers. We headed to Germany at Porsche's invitation to see how well it performs, as well as check out the full range of newly refreshed Panamera models, which now numbers nine offerings - although we're still waiting for a production version of the gorgeous Sport Turismo wagon concept.
