Just pulled this car out of a Garage. Vin #4722908728 It had been there since the early 90's. For an east coast guy this car is a rust free as they come. The '72 is an original California car. It was converted in the late eighties with all the period goodies. The car was converted to 5 lugs with BMW front calipers. Turbo tie rods, new ball joints and new torsion bars. Koni's all round. The GT flares front and rear are fiberglass. It has a front fiberglass bumper with rear fiberglass 916 style belly pan. The rocker covers are flared fiberglass. The car was painted with a metalic blue gray paint over an original #60E green car. The longs, floors, and hell hole are as solid as I have ever seen. The rear trunk section above the muffler was replaced with replacement sheet metal. The front trunk is intact and original. The car appears to have no accident damage. The paint is in the 20 footer category. The underlying bodywork was poorly done as were the fiberglass flares. The passenger rear flare is cracking. The paint has several blemishes in it. The previous owner was a BMW fan. He did the front brake conversion with BMW calipers The interior is really nice aside from a cracked dash and some tired carpeting the cockpit is really presentable. The door panels are very nice. The car needs some weatherstripping in the doors and windows. The gas tank was removed , cleaned, sealed, and painted. The fuel pump was relocated to the front. There are braided fuel lines running through the tunnel to the engine compartment where a fuel regulator controls the flow. The wheels are cookie cutters 15 inch. The tires are pretty bald and need to be replaced. The engine lid is currently removed but will be sold with the car. I also have an engine and transmission from a 73 that is available separately. The engine is a 1.7 with D-Jet fuel injection. It was rebuilt by the previous owner. it is complete with a clutch. Also available is a 901 side shift transmission. Please contact me for cost of the drivetrain. So what you have is a nice rust free California 914 roller which has 5 lugs, BMW calipers, GT Flares, BMW seats. Car is sold as a roller with Bill of Sale ONLY NO TITLE Contact me for any questions. On Jan-04-14 at 20:53:36 PST, seller added the following information: This is an easy project for someone if you can turn a wrench. You could have this car running in a weekend. This car only needs a motor and trans bolted in to get it back on the road. Everything else is there: 5 lug conversion, suspension, brakes, wiring, lights, nice interior, fuel system, battery. You can have yourself a nice flared gt car for a fraction of the cost it would take to build one yourself. |

These were our favorite cars of 2022
Tue, Dec 20 2022Favorite cars is different than best cars. The idea of "best" can speak to value and overall competitiveness in a given vehicle segment. There's lots of objectivity involved and to do a "best" list right, one really must be very thorough and as scientific as possible. This is not that list. This is about our favorites, so objectivity be damned. If we liked a Challenger Hellcat because it made loud noises or a Honda Odyssey because it made for a particularly special family vacation, fair game. These were the cars that most spoke to our collection of editors and the ones that stayed in our minds and hung in our hearts long after they left our driveway. — Senior Editor James Riswick 2022 GMC Hummer EV Senior Editor, Green, John Beltz Snyder: I didn't particularly expect to like the new Hummer. I wasn't a fan of the Hummer H2 or H3, so I wasn't automatically enthusiastic about this electric reboot. Fast EVs aren't hard to come by — and, in fact, may be too easy to come by — so its performance specs weren't enough to win me over. Despite videos to the contrary, pickups aren't my favorite vehicular format. And its excessive size and weight turned me off ... until I finally got behind the wheel. This thing is wildly entertaining to drive. Watts to Freedom launch control is a neat party trick, sure, but the novelty wears off quickly. The novelty of Crab Walk, however, has staying power. The rear-wheel steering makes this behemoth feel much smaller than it is — the maneuverability is incredible, and useful. The air suspension provides tons of clearance, including a ridiculously high-riding Extract mode. I can't wait for lesser versions of the Hummer to make their way to market. Give me less power (for less money), but keep the off-road tricks onboard, and I'll be a happy camper. Senior Editor, Consumer, Jeremy Korzeniewski: If I could afford to put one of these in my driveway, I would. Sadly, I can't, so I won't (What's that, Janet? I got the lyric wrong?). Still, I love the dumb thing. Thankfully, I have another choice down below. 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 Associate Editor Byron Hurd: Yeah, duh, Porsches are good. But there's good, and then there's GT3. This is the feeling every performance-oriented RWD tuner is trying to replicate. This is hard, precise, surgical and immensely satisfying. To begin to explore this car on a public road is by itself an admission that you believe yourself to be above the rules as they apply to normal drivers.
Porsche Cayman GT4 speeds back into view
Tue, 18 Nov 2014We're all familiar with the succession of numbers that follow the letters GT on a hard-core Porsche 911: the GT1 that was Stuttgart's Le Mans contender in the late 90s, the GT2 that packs turbochargers but without the Turbo's all-wheel drive and excess weight, and the naturally aspirated GT3 that's the enthusiast's choice. But a GT4? That's something new, and exactly what Porsche has in store.
Spied testing in Germany once again is the upcoming GT4 version of the Porsche Cayman, set to supersede the existing GTS and take the place of the previous Cayman R at the top of Porsche's junior sports car range. This latest batch of spy shots doesn't show us much more than the last crop, but gives us a much clearer view at what promises to be the most hardcore Cayman to date.
As you can see, the Cayman GT4 packs a much more aggressive aero kit and rolling stock than any version we've seen to date. It's got a lip spoiler, big air dam and GT3-style vent in front of the hood, deep air scoops along the flanks, a set of spindly alloys packing oversized brakes, a diffuser with twin central exhaust tips around back and a rear wing that's likely to be replaced with a sleeker unit before the GT4 reaches production.
Jack Olsen built one Porsche to do it all
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Jack Olsen has built himself a lair called the 12-Gauge Garage, and inside that garage he built a lairy Porsche 911 nicknamed Black Beauty II. Although it looks like one of Stuttgart's models from the sixties or seventies, it is actually four decades of 911 gubbins from 1965 to 2000 thrown under one shell: the lightweight body is from 1972, the transaxle from 1977, the brakes from a 1986 Turbo, the engine from 1995, for example. It weighs 2,400 pounds and it's got 272 horsepower to get it going, but it's still a pure Porsche, Olsen saying, "If you stop thinking about what you're doing, it will remind you in very abrupt ways."
Olsen said the real point has been to have one car that does it all, so he does everything in his 911 from neighborhood runs to 7-11 to track racing - he loads the aero bits in the car and bolts them on trackside. And he says he'll never stop tweaking the suspension.
You can watch and hear the rest in Olsen's words in the video below.
