For Sale is a very nice Porsche 914 with 86,578 original miles.  The engine is a 1.7 with original fuel injection system.  I replaced the mechanical points with electronic and the car starts great and runs great for a 40 year old car.  I have not professionally tuned the engine since I got the car as the porsche mechanic told me not to touch the injection system until it needs it.  The Porsce has been restored by the previous owner with lots of new parts, seals, and bare metal paint job.  The paint job has 2 chips and one small crack.  Body is strraight and I could find only a small area on the right rear fender where some repair work had been done (see pictures).  I replaced the Master Brake Cylinder with a new Porsche 911, replaced the brake fluid resevior, and replaced (1) fuel injector and some of the gas lines.

What it needs:  1.  The fog lights did not work when I got the car and have not investigated the problem.  2.  The heater control unit front face plate decal is worn.  I have a nice used one for a replacement.  3.  The right headlight motor is intermittent and only raise the headlite automatically about 50% of the time.  I bought a replacement headlight motor that goes with the car.

Mechanically the car has lots of power and shifts smoothly through all the gears. Interior is in new condition and in great shape.

There is no warranty given or implied.  I will gladly take the vehicle to some place locally to have it inspected at the buyers expense before the auction ends.

The bidding has a start price of $ 5,000.00/  The buyer is reponsible for all shipping costs.

Please email or call Mark at 406-245-6360 with any questions.  Thanks for looking.

Porsche Cayman GTS in track battle with 996 GT3

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Here's your tough question of the day: Would you rather drive a new Porsche Cayman GTS or a slightly older, 996-era Porsche 911 GT3? Certainly, both cars have their plusses. The Cayman is the more modern proposition, sure, but the GT3 is, well, a GT3. So yes, it's a tough decision.
If you're one of the lucky souls that have to make that choice, then this video from Evo should prove pretty helpful. It's a track battle, starring Jethro Bovingdon with a new GTS and an old GT3.
Calling the GTS "fantastically agile" and "fast, but it's also hilariously good fun," Bovingdon bangs home a solid lap time of 1:05.2 before switching to the GT3. It's remarkable to see just how dated the 996-generation 911 looks after viewing the newer Porsche, and from where we sit, it's further proof that the old car's headlights are something that's best forgotten. Styling qualms aside, though, can the GT3 keep up with its racy younger cousin?

New J.D. Power Initial Quality Study puts Porsche, GM in spotlight

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

J.D. Power and Associates has released its annual Initial Quality Study, and this year, Porsche and General Motors took the spotlight. The study, which asks new car owners to report problems experienced during the first 90 days of ownership, found that overall, the industry averages 113 problems per 100 vehicles.
Porsche managed a score of just 80 problems per 100 vehicles, while GMC took the second spot on the podium with 90. Lexus filled out the top three with 94 problems per 100 vehicles, followed by Infiniti at 95 and Chevrolet at 97. The study also looks at specific models, and found the Lexus LS to enjoy the best initial quality at 59 problems per 100 vehicles.
Interestingly enough, the report found that around two-thirds of most owner problems experienced in the first 90 days are attributable to vehicle design instead of mechanical failure. Specifically - echoing a refrain we've been hearing for the last few years - owners are having a hard time figuring out how to use the technology present in their new vehicles. Head over to the J.D. Power site for more information, or scroll down below for the company's related press release.

Porsche 911 Targa leaks out ahead of Detroit debut

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

With the doors of Cobo Center opening for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Porsche is set to reveal its new 911 Targa in a matter of hours. But before it gets the chance, the first batch of images have already leaked out, courtesy of Chinese car site autohome.com.cn.
As expected, the new Targa appears to ditch the complex sliding glass roof panels that adorned recent versions of the semi-convertible 911 in favor of a more back-to-basics approach. An entirely removable roof panel opens up the sky, backed by a metallic B-pillar hoop in front of a large curved-glass rear window.
We'll have to wait just a little longer for the full scope of images and all the official details, but we're expecting the new Targa to carry most of the same technical specifications as the 991 on which it's based. Watch this space for more.
