1970 Porsche 914 Chevy V8 305 Conversion. Comes With 2056 Big Bore 914 Engine on 2040-cars

Year:1970 Mileage:875

Baltimore, Maryland, United States

This is a 1970 914 that I have owned for the better part of 13  years or so. I purchased the car from Georgia and it is VERY rust free. When I bought it, I was told there was zero rust. After an extensive search, I found a small hole in the driver floor pan and that is all. I purchased the car with the v8 conversion already in it. It appears to be a PorChev conversion which I believe is what Simpson originally called the conversion. When I bought it, I was told it had a stuck lifter. which turned out not to be the case. I pulled the engine and found what was really wrong was a rocker arm had come unseated and was turned so it was not making contact with the pushrod. I didn't know at the time I was ordering parts, so I got a performance cam, and new lifters. Along with that, I added a Pete Jackson Gear drive to get rid of the timing chain. The car also has a Weber 4bbl carb, Edelbrock performer intake, and headers going to cherry bombs. There is a Kennedy 3800 lb clutch. I converted the car to side shift. As you will see in the video, the car runs and sounds strong, but I doubt seriously that it even has 2 hours of run time since I put the engine back in. You should expect to do some dialing in on the engine as it breaks in. I would also not try to drive this car home. If it stalls, the starter suffers from the dreaded 914 hot voltage drop and can not crank the engine. I have a relay kit  for this but have not installed it. Also, I was never able to get all 4 barrels open. You will need to modify the throttle linkage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-0zeYh7Ktc&feature=youtu.be is a video of me starting the car on 7/28. The battery is totally dead so you will see jumper cables going to my Escape and the car is not washed or cleaned nor is it in the pics.

I am selling this car because I am moving 3 hours away and have no more garage. You will see I am selling my other cars also if you check my items for sale.

Along with the car, I will be including a 2056 914 engine that is complete except for the exhaust and air cleaners. Here is a link to my finding of this engine http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=233104 This engine I just bought a couple months ago for 2800 then paid for shipping. The engine is like brand new with just under 30 miles on it. if you want to convert the car back to a type 4 this is the way to go. If not, sell the engine. I have numerous people asking to buy the engine and I do not have time to unpackage this. I have to be out of my house by 8/15/14. Here is a link to all the info you could ever want on this engine. Keep in mind it is the engine, carbs Weber 40 idf's, and accessories. There is no trans or exhaust in the crate with the 2056. Here is an email from the man(Euro911) I bought the motor from -
HISTORY on this motor:

Long story, but my friend, Richard (Type 4 Unleashed), was building a Raby 2056 for me as I was recovering from a major surgery (early 2010). I was off the board from Nov 2009 to May 2010 and recuperating with physical therapy most of 2010.

I was hoping that I could make the Rt-66 Run in 2011 with the new 2056 motor, but Richard still didn't have it finished, so in Feb, I purchased a zero-mile motor that Enrique (RiqueMar) had posted in the classifieds. Enrique and his dad completed it from fresh a lower end rebuild. Here's the post

THOMAS and George H. came by and helped me install it just prior to the 2011 Run. Unfortunately, I had some complications from the first surgery pop up and ended up back in the hospital again for nearly a month, followed by another surgery. Recoop and PT therapy took up the remainder of the 2011 dry.gif

Richard had my 2056 completed during my down time, so when I was ready to start driving my car, I drove it to the shop and Richard installed the new motor (hence the real low mileage on Enrique's 2L motor).

It's been sitting in my shop (covered up) since Feb 2012.

If you provide me with your email address, I can sent you the original build documentation I received with the 2L motor. It seems that it was built as a 2.0L from a 1.7L, but Enrique stated in his F/S ad that his dad also installed the following:

+ Pistons- 96mm big bore NPRs.
+ Crankshaft- .010 under with polished journals and plasti-gauged to minimum tolerance.
+ Heads- completely rebuilt with new sodium filled exhaust valves and new guides.
+ Motor and components were dynamically balanced.

It's a 2056 with 96mm P&Cs and a 71mm crank.

In any event, it ran great for the 25+/- miles I drove it, and well worth the $ I'm asking for it ...

The car is in good shape, there is a star in the windshield. The interior is complete and is about a 7.5 to an 8. The flares are fiberglass and the  5 lug conversion is adapters. There are gt bumpers front and back. Stainless brake hoses. An extra targa top is in the trunk and there is all the stainless trim for the sail panels. Any parts that I have extra will be included. The extra engine is in a crate. I can take a picture of the crate if you want, but I don't see how that will help.  This is quite a package but it is as is and there is no reserve, the car has to go and it  kills me to do it. Calling me at 410 215 9577 is better than email as I will be very busy. I don't have time for non paying bidders on this one so please be legit.

Mark Webber treats Maria Sharapova to a Porsche 918 Spyder joyride

Tue, 29 Apr 2014

We don't much like Mark Webber right now. Part of being a racing driver is dealing with promotional stuff. It's not hard to find a driver that can't stand all this nonsense, whether it be promoting a product, meeting investors or attending some obscure event. Even a driver of Webber's caliber - a former Formula One driver for Red Bull Racing and a member of Porsche's factory Le Mans team - has to serve his time at the promo events.
Somehow, though, we don't think the Aussie driver minds this particular promo detail. In the video below, Webber attends the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. He then takes tennis superstar Maria Sharapova out for a spin behind the wheel of the Porsche 918 Spyder. The level of jealousy at the Autoblog office is palpable.
Take a look below for the video. And as we're super jealous of Mr. Webber, hop into Comments and caption the above photo based on what you think he's saying to Maria. Bonus points if you can work "vegemite" into the caption.

6 car mashups that God never intended

Sat, May 17 2014

In the 2000s, the musical mashup genre saw a peak of popularity with releases like The Grey Album from Danger Mouse that mixed The Beatles and Jay-Z. UK artist James Pursey from Carwow decided to take the same concept of shoehorning two disparate things together but applied the concept to cars. Your opinion on the results will vary with your sense of humor. These creations are either some funny pieces of abstract art or absolute monstrosities that prove good design should be left alone. Likely the best of the bunch is the Lambotomic (pictured above), which combines a Lamborghini Miura and an Ariel Atom. Granted, the Ariel is little more than a skeleton to begin with, and the outcome looks like a slightly stretched Atom with the new nose and tail from one of the most beautiful vehicles ever. This could actually work. Though, not all of the mashups are quite so pleasant. The Porschiac WW RS (pictured right) is absolutely disgusting. It combines a Pontiac Aztek, which isn't a beauty queen to start with, and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Obviously, the 911 is an iconic shape in autonobolia, but that can't save it from the horror of the Aztek. Pursey fits the its nose, wheel, wing, roll cage and stripes onto the Pontiac. The outcome: A design that will show up in your nightmares. Check out the gallery for the rest of the mashups, including the Humi (a Humvee and a Mini), Aston Smartin (Aston Martin and Smart), Rangerini (Range Rover and Lamborghini Aventador) and the Mazdafenda (Mazda MX-5 Miata and Land Rover Defender). They might not all be beautiful (or even pretty), but it's fun to imagine these oddball creations actually driving down the road. Build your dream garage with this insane prize from Omaze

Wed, Jan 19 2022

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability is subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze. Normally when we write about Omaze sweepstakes, they involve a car that you'd never go out and buy on your own. A six-figure camper van build, a $300,000 Ford Bronco restoration, a Land Rover Defender that's so beautiful it should be in a museum. Today's prize might beat out all of those, because not only could you win a dream car, you'll be entered for a chance to win $100k cash to go along with it.  There are a lot of cars you can buy with $100k. You could buy a Land Cruiser Heritage Edition or a Mustang GT500 or 6 Chevy Sparks and start your own racing series. Personally, if I won that kind of dough, assuming I also won this Bentley Bentayga, my favorite of Omaze's current offerings, I'd probably use some of it to buy something quirky, like a Honda Element converted into a pop-top camper, or a restored/upgraded 60 series Land Cruiser. Think that's a terrible way to spend the cash? That's the beauty of it. It is completely up to you. No one can tell you what to do with it. Except maybe your spouse.  Here are our favorite vehicle giveaways we’ve found online this week: 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition - Enter at Omaze Regardless of what you think about Ford using the name Mustang for an electric crossover, one thing is for certain, the Mustang Mach-E GT is an impressive piece of machinery.
