1976 Porsche 912 E 1976 Porsche 912 E 2-Door Coupe
Vehicle Description 1976 Porsche 912E featured here in Desert Beige (1 of only SIX Desert Beige 912's ever registered http://www.912registry.org/restore/rare912colors.htm ) over a brown/ orange interior. This car is very "period"correct and has only one option that I can see: air conditioning. No sunroof. No tinted windows. No Fuchs. No passnger side mirrior. Just a simple yellow 911 with a 4 cylinder motor... It's called a 912E, has a unique place in Porsche history and offers a very pure driving experience. This car DOES NOT have the smog pump installed but it DOES have the original fuel injection installed (the engine was NOT converted to carburetors) and so the smog pump could reinstalled after purchase but it may not be cheap... Many of you also know the history of the 912E. It was made in the model year 1976 only and was an interim offering to bridge between the outgoing 914 and the 924 which was not finished and ready for production. Only 2092 examples of the 912E were made and this is number 2033 (so late in the run). Porsche needed an "entry level" and fuel efficient model in addition to the 911 and so the 912E was born. http://www.porsche912e.com/docs/about.html Unlike the 912 of the late 1960's which used the 356 motor and had a different rear subframe to the 911 of that time, the 912E has a 1976 911 chasis and rear subframe which is modified to house the 914 4-cylinder motor. As such, dropping a 6-cylinder in the 912E is not too challenging. However, the extra power of a flat six may take away from the charm and unique nature of the 912E. Here is an example of how intoxicating they are: http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/index.php/porsche-912e And they hold their own on the track with a 4-cylinder!! It is a full Porsche 911 chasis after all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCY3hv_qbGo This car has been fully inspected, sorted, restored and repaired. It is fully functioning in all major areas and is a joy to drive. All of the things this car offers, has and does not have will be outlined here so you will have a complete picture of the car. The last owner did a full cosmetic and mechanical overhaul to flush out and address hidden problems and bring the car back to its' full glory. Mechanicals: 4 cylinder motor in excellent mechanical condition. Starts impeccably with no smoke and revs freely. Responsive and smooth. 5 speed manual gear box. Enagages properly with smooth action. Clutch has excellent grab and no slippage at all. Tires in excellent condition with 85+% tread Rotors and pads 75+% life remaining. Excellent braking! Upgraded Bosch H4 headlamps - very good light at night! Factory air conditioning option installed. The compressor is not installed but is present (as are all lines) and air flow systems work very well. In fact, the factory a/c fan system installed along the lower aspect of the dash blows air VERY well through out the cabin and is awesome!!! Porsche reveals first Macan driving and manufacturing footage
Fri, 13 Dec 2013One of the more anticipated offerings of the upcoming year, Porsche's sporty baby Cayenne, the 2015 Macan, has already earned nods of approval from a number of Autoblog staffers. We named it one of the top five debuts at last month's LA Auto Show, citing its 400-horsepower turbocharged engine and other sporty bits as good reasons to get excited about Stuttgart's latest.
And while our first test may be many months away, we're keeping our ears to the ground for any information on Porsche's compact crossover. We're especially keen on stuff like this - our first look at the new model in motion and undergoing assembly at its Leipzig plant. Both are shorter videos, and while there's little of the glorious engine noise we've already been teased with, the videos do offer a great look at the handsome Macan on the road, as well as glimpse at Porsche's state-of-the-art manufacturing operations.
Scope out the videos below and let us know what you think.
What do J.D. Power's quality ratings really measure?
Wed, Jun 24 2015Check these recently released J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) results. Do they raise any questions in your mind? Premium sports-car maker Porsche sits in first place for the third straight year, so are Porsches really the best-built cars in the U.S. market? Korean brands Kia and Hyundai are second and fourth, so are Korean vehicles suddenly better than their US, European, and Japanese competitors? Are workaday Chevrolets (seventh place) better than premium Buicks (11th), and Buicks better than luxury Cadillacs (21st), even though all are assembled in General Motors plants with the same processes and many shared parts? Are Japanese Acuras (26th) worse than German Volkswagens (24th)? And is "quality" really what it used to be (and what most perceive it to be), a measure of build excellence? Or has it evolved into much more a measure of likeability and ease of use? To properly analyze these widely watched results, we must first understand what IQS actually studies, and what the numerical scores really mean. First, as its name indicates, it's all about "initial" quality, measured by problems reported by new-vehicle owners in their first 90 days of ownership. If something breaks or falls off four months in, it doesn't count here. Second, the scores are problems per 100 vehicles, or PP100. So Power's 2015 IQS industry average of 112 PP100 translates to just 1.12 reported problems per vehicle. Third, no attempt is made to differentiate BIG problems from minor ones. Thus a transmission or engine failure counts the same as a squeaky glove box door, tricky phone pairing, inconsistent voice recognition, or anything else that annoys the owner. Traditionally, a high-quality vehicle is one that is well-bolted together. It doesn't leak, squeak, rattle, shed parts, show gaps between panels, or break down and leave you stranded. By this standard, there are very few poor-quality new vehicles in today's U.S. market. But what "quality" should not mean, is subjective likeability: ease of operation of the radio, climate controls, or seat adjusters, phone pairing, music downloading, sizes of touch pads on an infotainment screen, quickness of system response, or accuracy of voice-recognition. These are ergonomic "human factors" issues, not "quality" problems. Yet these kinds of pleasability issues are now dominating today's JDP "quality" ratings.
'Latest production version' of Porsche 918 shown off on Twitter
Fri, 16 Aug 2013Porsche posted a picture of what it is calling "the latest production version" of the 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder on Twitter. It looks like the gasoline-hybrid supercar is being driven sportively on some California back roads during Monterey Speed Week.
Whatever updates were made to this version aren't visual (except for the paint), as the one Chris Harris drove last spring and another seen hot-weather testing in Nevada both had production bodies. We presume the changes are relatively minor and more than skin deep - perhaps brake calibration, suspension tuning or tweaks to the powertrain - but Porsche didn't release any more information.
The 918 Spyder is Porsche's latest supercar, which will compete with the LaFerrari and the McLaren P1 hybrid supercars. The Porsche may be the underdog of the group when considering horsepower, acceleration, top speed and price, but the 887-horsepower brute has the most advanced hybrid drivetrain of the three.
