1968 Porsche 912 Soft Window Targa- Rare 4 Owners From New on 2040-cars
Springtown, Pennsylvania, United States
For Sale, my Porsche 1968 912 Soft Window Targa, VIN #12870061, Matching Numbers in Irish Green. I am the 4th Owner of this handsome Porsche. It currently has 103,625 on the speedometer, although the actual mileage is believed to be approximately 124k (see below) and is located in Springtown, Pennsylvania. I purchased the Targa in 2011 while living in California and have since moved to Pennsylvania and I rarely drive the car. The car is titled and registered in California. According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, which is included, the car maintains it's original engine, Irish Green paint color code 6806, and Black leatherette interior. All additional Original options as per the COA are still present as follows: Rubber Overriders for Front and Rear Bumpers Talbot Mirror Wheels & Hubcaps with Painted Crest Radio Becker "Europa" U.S. Band Loudspeaker Antenna The history of the car is listed here- Purchased new in California, the second Owner from Ashland, Oregon purchased the car from Marin Porsche in 1975 with 32,000 miles. In 1990, the 3rd owner from Bend, Oregon acquired the 912 with 85,000 miles on the speedometer. The previous owners estimate the mileage was 20k higher than the reading to do a speedometer cable failure that was not repaired for some time. At approximately 79k actual miles, the engine was rebuilt. I purchased the car in 2011 from a Classic Porsche shop in Oregon that represented the owner. I have records back to 1981 for the car. I understand from the previous owner that the car has been repainted at some point, but prior to 1981. The Porsche runs great. It's a nice driver 912, and not nearly as fast as a modern Porsche, but it is fun to drive, handles great, you'll look great getting wherever you're going. New Tires less than 1k miles New Battery The rear window was replaced in 1988 and is in excellent, clear condition Carburetors rebuilt in 2009 Shocks, Muffler replaced in 2009 Complete tune-up in November 2011, and have only driven 350 miles since All lights, indicators, horn, radio work There is no evidence of rust on the car nor any sign of previous accidents. The suspension pan, battery box, floorpan, and jack points are all solid. There is evidence of a repair on the underside of the rear deck lid (see pictures). The documentation that was included with the car doesn't show any painting or bodywork but a nice history of mechanical maintenance. Here are the car specs- 1582cc 4-cylinder Flat-Four pushrod Engine. The smog pump featured on 1968 models has been previously removed Weber Carbs with CB Air Cleaners 5-Speed Transmission Type 902-02 Known issues with this Vintage Porsche are: The last paint job was many years ago. The paint has a vintage patina and looks fantastic from 10 feet away. Up close, there are cracks int the paint on the hood, passenger door, and trunk lid. I like the look this way because it feels original. It has always been garaged by me and has clearly been a garage queen over the years The car is missing it's Fog Lamp Covers, but included with the sale are a set of unpainted ones The drivers seat has separated at one of the seams- you can see this in the photographs Weber Carburetors occasionally make popping sound when engine is cold The drivers side door pocket sags open I am a PCA member and own several vintage Porsches. I'm selling this great 912 due to lack of use- I am simply away from home too much for business to enjoy this cool car. It needs to go to a good home and someone who will drive and enjoy this very rare model. According to production statistics, there were 36,000 Porsche 912s built between 1965 and 1969 of which just over 1,000 were Soft Window Targas, an incredibly rare breed. Consider this- some of the most collectible cars in the world were made in similar numbers- 1,600 1973 RS Carreras; 1,400 Mercedes Gullwings; 4,000 Ferrari Dinos. This is a truly special model and highly collectible. For additional photographs of the car, see my site at http://csb356.wix.com/68porsche912targa Payment terms Wire Transfer or Cash. $2,000 Deposit due via Paypal at close of auction with balance due within 7 days. VW close to decision on selling Bugatti to Rimac
Sun, Feb 21 2021FRANKFURT — Electric hypercar maker Rimac Automobili and Volkswagen's supercar brand Bugatti are a good technological fit, Porsche's CEO told German weekly Automobilwoche, fueling hopes that a deal between the two could happen soon. British automotive magazine Car last year reported that Volkswagen was on the verge of selling Bugatti to Rimac Automobili, citing sources. In exchange, Porsche, also owned by Volkswagen, would raise the 15.5% stake it owns in Rimac, founded by Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac, Car said. "At the moment there are intense deliberations on how Bugatti can be developed in the best possible way. Rimac could play a role here because the brands are a good technological fit," Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said. "There are various scenarios with different structures. I believe that the issue will be decided by the group in the first half of the year," said Blume, who also sits on the management board of parent Volkswagen. Rimac has developed an electric supercar platform, which he supplies to other carmakers, including Pininfarina. Blume also confirmed higher savings targets for Porsche, saying the carmaker plans to support results by 10 billion euros ($12.1 billion) of cost cuts by 2025, up from 6 billion previously. Are you the next Porsche 911 GT3 RS or GT2?
Thu, 17 Apr 2014Porsche typically keeps to a suitably fast schedule when it comes to rolling out increasingly hard-core performance versions of the 911. After the 997 Carrera debuted in 2004, the GT3 version followed in 2006, and by the end of the 2007, Porsche had rolled out both the GT3 RS and GT2 versions. Then the facelifted 997.5 came out in 2008 and it was back to the start: the GT3 came in 2009, the GT3 RS and GT2 RS in 2010, and the GT3 RS 4.0 in 2011. But things have slowed down some with the latest 991 generation.
The new Carrera came in 2011 and the GT3 followed in 2012. By recent history's example, we should have at least two more hardcore models by now, but we don't. Maybe the engineers in Zuffenhausen have had their hands full fixing the spontaneous-combustion issues with the existing GT3, or maybe their attentions have been focused elsewhere altogether. But if these spy shots are anything to go by, it seems like they're back on the job.
Now we don't know if this prototype foreshadows a new GT3 RS or a GT2, but it sure looks more hard-core than the existing GT3 that many purists have derided as too soft, what with its automatic transmission and four-wheel steering.
Wingsuits are somehow involved in new season of 'Top Gear'
Mon, Jan 14 2019It's a shame that Matt LeBlanc is leaving "Top Gear," but there's a bit of solace in the situation: There's still one more season of him as frontman. BBC just released the new trailer for series 26, and it shows LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid getting into all sorts of shenanigans around the globe. "Top Gear" announced LeBlanc's imminent departure back in May 2018, but he still had to finish one more season before leaving. Thus, the upcoming series will be his last, and it looks like he'll go out in a whirlwind of dust, bent metal, water spray and burnt rubber. The trailer shows everything expected from a season of the storied automotive show (well, everything except Hammond, May, and Clarkson, if you're one of those people). There will be precision driving, dubious stunts, name-calling and gobs of stunning videography. In the short one-minute clip, there are flashes of numerous attention-piquing vehicles. The new Bentley Continental GT, a Bentley Le Mans racer, Porsches, Ferraris, the Aston Martin Vantage, and the Mercedes-AMG GT all make appearances. And for some random fun, the boys are seen in wingsuits (doubtful it's actually them), and playing polo in some three-wheel rickshaws (before wrecking said rickshaws). We'll update with more information as soon as we know when the show will start.
