This wonderful car sat covered in a garage since 1995 by its second owner. It was rescued in March 2012 by the third owner (me) and put back on the road after some minor mechanical work. The issues with this car are only cosmetic and minor mechanical.
If you have been watching the value of early 912 Targas (especially soft windows) then you know that the prices have been escalating year after year even in this down economy. Hagarty Insurance specializes in insuring classic cars and keeps an accurate database on Porsche values. Go to Hagerty directly and check it out car values.
You have seen all of the other 912 Targas on ebay - and a vast majority of them were POS cars with major flaws. You have seen rust buckets being bought with rusted out floorboards, leaking back windows that rusted out the back seat area, incomplete bodies, wrong interiors, wrong seats, damaged front and rear quarters, rusted out battery boxes, missing or torn soft windows, exposed wiring, cracked dashes, trashed paint, large poorly welded in sections to the front end etc. This car has none of that! AND IT’S PRICED RIGHT!
The Porsche 912 Soft Window Targa has done nothing but INCREASE in value year after year! If you have been waiting for “THE” car to either do a full restoration on or to simply fix the little bugs and drive then this is it! The terrific condition of this 45 year old classic is the single reason why I bought it - with the full intention of doing a full restoration and then the monthly drive to car shows. I love my Targa but unfortunately my garage is now too small for all my other projects. After some serious consideration, it is my Targa that must be sold. My loss is your gain. Restored 1967 Soft Windows are pushing $65K + restored and that number will just keep going up!
The car naturally will be sold “as is” with no guarantee on the drive train. I have posted the car on ebay but I have several NorCal collectors looking at it along with it being advertised locally so it may drop off of ebay if someone local decides to own it.
I do NOT have a ridiculous reserve on the car!!!
The wining bidder will be responsible for all arrangements and costs associated with pick up and transportation.

34. New spark plugs
35. New generator pulley and belt

40. Targa Top recovered and looks new
41. Soft window replaced 20 years ago but looks good and zipper works great!
42. Engine runs strong with only very little leaks (always parked in the same spot in the garage and only 5 drops of oil after several weeks)
43. Engine fires up on first turn of the key
44. Does not appear to burn oil
45. No strange engine noises, tapping or knocking
46. Oil pressure 30-35 PSI at idle / 60 PSI at RPM
47. Engine does not run hot
48. The 2 Targa top keys work perfectly
49. Original German chrome steel spare tire.
50. The ignition key matches the door lock (and the locks work).
THE (not so) BAD:
1. 135K miles
2. Clutch just now starting to chatter – will need to be replaced in the future.
3. Speedometer cable is starting to wear and will need to be replaced at some point.
4. 2 dime sized paint bubbles on each of the front fenders behind the wheel opening.
5. Under the front of the Porsche emblem you can see a crack in the paint most likely from a faulty repair prior to the 1980’s paint job.
6. Typical road rash on paint from being a driver and poorly touched up. The paint looks good from a few feet away and while driving down the road but there are a lot of small nicks and scrapes.
7. Car repainted non stock color (sort of a metallic root beer) in the 1980’s - it will need to be repainted at some point in the future.
8. Horns disconnected.
9. Clock does not work but I have not checked it.
10. Fuel sending unit only reads to 1/4 tank when full. Sending unit in the tank needs to be replaced (cheap).
11. Temp gauge does not work – but 99% certain it is the sender as the gauge responds and moves when the key is first turned on.
12. Fuel tank was flushed out but remnants of finely powdered rust are still present (the reason for 2 fuel filters). Until this clears out I recommend the fuel filters be changed often (or drain the tank again and have epoxy coated).
13. The Targa top was professionally recovered years ago on the outside and looks factory new but the inside headliner is starting to sag.
14. Drivers side front seat front tilt "locking" mechanism broken (typical). Slider and tilt work just fine though.
15. It is unknown if the 1st or 2cnd owner had any engine or transmission work done on the car. The tranny looks untouched. I cannot determine if the engine has been apart or not.
16. A few of the small dash lights are burnt out and will need to be replaced.
17. Missing cigarette lighter and tool kit.
18. Back seats have a few small 1" tears (see pics).
If local please email to arrange a test drive and check out the car in person! (thank you to you guys that came by and test drove it this past weekend - now bring some money)!!!
I have undercarriage pictures including underneath the doors - NO RUST. Email and I'll send them to you!
ALSO - I need more room in the garage so I will also throw in any and all spare 912 parts that I have that are not related to this particular car but may come in handy down the road (heater boxes, 1969 generator, extra engine tin, nuts & bolts, headlight glass, gaskets, hardware etc.)

Jaguar F-Type squares off against Porsche 911, Aston V8 Vantage with Chris Harris
Fri, 21 Jun 2013Chris Harris is back on the job, taking on really really difficult car questions like: Which enormously sexy and good-to-drive, high-performance convertible is the top of the heap? As one of the hottest cars in the luxury space right now, the Jaguar F-Type S is, of course, in on the action. Competition comes in the form of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster and the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. Sun-loving CEOs who despise test-driving need look no further.
Scroll on below for a fully featured (with a running time of more than 20 minutes) comparison video. Harris does his best to entertain - in a typically nitpicky and made-up-British-words fashion - and the moving pictures are lovely to look at. Kick back, pour a pint and get your weekend started off right.
J.D. Power: Vehicle dependability at all-time high, Lexus and Porsche lead
Wed, 13 Feb 2013
Each year, J.D. Power and Associates surveys original owners of three-year-old vehicles to find out what kinds of problems they have had experienced over the last 12 months, and then it uses this data to create its annual Vehicle Dependability Study. This means that the models in the 2013 study are 2010 model year vehicles, and J.D. Power rates each make as well as the top individual models based on how many problems were experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100).
Debunking the idea that carryover models are more dependable than new or updated models, the 2013 study found that the average carryover model experienced 133 PP100, while all-new or redesigned vehicles for the 2010 model year had 116 PP100; vehicles that received minor changes fared the best with just 111 PP100. The overall average for all makes was 126 PP100, which is the lowest figure since the findings were first issued in 1989.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS getting all-new atmospheric engine
Thu, Jan 15 2015Porsche surprised many of its most puritanical enthusiasts when it took a decidedly more usable approach with the current 911 GT3. But when the new GT3 RS debuts, it promises to be a much more extreme departure. And a big part of that comes down to the engine. At the Detroit Auto Show this week, Auto Express spoke with Porsche R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz – who also happens to be head of engine and transmission development for the entire Volkswagen group. Hatz revealed that Porsche has developed a completely new engine for the GT3 RS, and while previous rumors suggested the RS would go turbo to fill in for the lack of a GT2 (and make the most out of its displacement), Hatz confirmed that it will be naturally aspirated. Considering that Porsche rarely goes downwards when it comes to 911 engine displacement, only upwards, we'd expect the new RS to pick up where the previous 4.0 left off. The new GT3 RS is also expected to pack a more extreme suspension, aero and stripped-out interior, but those hoping for an old-school approach may be disappointed to learn that the new RS will (at least at launch) only be available with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission – though a manual version could follow if there's enough demand. In a related development, Hatz also hinted that the Cayman GT4 could debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with an even more extreme approach than the previous Cayman R. The new top-of-the-line Cayman is reportedly being developed to comply with GT4 class racing regulations but be fully homologated for road use. Related Video:
