1965 Porsche 912, Very Early, Painted Dash, 3-gauge, 450xxx Vin, Irish Green on 2040-cars
Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States
Porsche 912/450186 is one of the earliest know, 912's in existence. The Porsche 912 Registry lists approximately 10 known 912's with a build date older than this one. Though it's exact build date is unknown, production was likely completed in April of 1965. My research has shown that three gauge, painted dash 912's were only made for the first 1500 units of 912 production. This coupled with the direct link to the 356 model range and the 911, make this a rare and unique vehicle. 912's of this era are the "missing link" from the transition of 356 to the 911, arguably the most significant sports car in history.
This particular Porsche is farm-fresh and ripe for restoration. Delivered in paint code 213, Irish Green, this will be a stunning car when restored. As with many Porsches of this era, it will require floor pans, rockers, suspension pan and some additional rust repair. All of the panels needed for this car are readily sourced from Restoration Design for a reasonable cost. Though much of the interior remains, it is missing a radio or block-off plate, the gauges and the steering wheel has been replaced with what appears to be a period unit. The drive train is missing as well with both engine and trans gone when I acquire it. Though not included in the price, I have available an engine from a 68 912 which had under 70K on the odometer. The engine is currently disassembled, measures standard on the case and crank and includes an NOS set of main bearings for a .010 under crank and standard case. Additionally, I may be able to make available the matching, 5-speed trans for this motor. It was sold awhile back, though it's going unused and I have dibs on getting it back. The Porsche is located in Colorado Springs at my shop, Bulli Klinik. Though I will not arrange transportation for the car, I will do what I can to assist an out of state/country buyer. Additionally, I'll be happy to take more and detailed photos of the car once we get a break in the weather. This Porsche is not currently titled and as a result, will be sold with a bill of sale only. $12,500.00 |

2015 Porsche Macan Turbo
Mon, 06 Jan 2014The misinformation first started back in May of 2007 - more than six years ago - when word came that Porsche was developing a compact utility vehicle to fill out its product line. Rumors swirled that the German automaker's future "Roxster" would be based on the then-upcoming Audi Q5. By September of 2010, the name had changed to "Cajun," but the vehicle was still expected to be "based heavily on the Audi Q5," said reports in the months that followed. One year later, the first test mules were spotted, the mechanics hidden beneath barely disguised Audi sheetmetal, which did nothing to give the upcoming model its own identity. And even after Porsche announced "Macan" as the vehicle's production name in early 2012, articles stated that it would "arrive on the same chassis as the Audi Q5, though with suspension, brake and engine tweaks suitable to the Porsche range."
It's no wonder that most still consider the all-new Porsche Macan nothing more than a heavily massaged Q5.
To help lift some of the mystery surrounding its latest release, Porsche hosted us in Germany for an in-depth look at its new crossover (while Europeans call it a "sport utility," its car platform allows us to call it a proper CUV). The technology workshop offered us insight to the design and mechanical execution, and it concluded with a short test ride. The trip was both enlightening and educational - and it left us with a whole new perspective on the Macan.
Porsche's latest Driver's Selection keeps enthusiasts happy at home
Wed, 25 Sep 2013Porsche fans - and there are certainly plenty of them out there, even in here on the Autoblog editorial staff - can be pretty emphatic about their enthusiasm, insisting that the 911 is the very definition of the sportscar. And for some, merely admiring one from afar or even leaving theirs parked outside isn't enough. For just such enthusiats, Porsche Design has expanded its Driver's Selection with some tantalizing additions for the home and office.
First up is a desk chair made from the bucket seat in a 911 Carrera, which we have to admit we'd rather be sitting in right now over this blasted, rather unexciting ergonomic office chair. It's covered in black leather (the same you'd find inside an actual 911) embossed with the Porsche emblem and features electronic backrest adjustment.
There's also a wall shelf made from the carbon-fiber rear spoiler a 911 GT3 Cup racecar that can support up to 264 pounds of downforce in the form of books, trinkets and whathaveyou. And there's a limited-edition resin model of the 918 Spyder in 1:8 scale. The items haven't hit the Porsche shop just yet, so we don't have pricing information, but if they tickle your fancy, the online store has plenty more to offer.
Father-son team grows close by building tuned Porsche
Mon, 21 Jul 2014We've seen several heartwarming videos of kids bonding over cars with their parents, whether racing together or giving them as gifts. The story of Leh Keen and his father McGrath, though, is somewhat different. Not many dads are looking for a vehicle quite this mental.
As Leh tells it, his dad saw a video online of one of the wild Porsches from Japanese tuner Rauh-Welt Begriff and decided that he needed one of the creations in his own garage. Since Leh knows something about cars himself as a driver for Alex Job Racing in the United SportsCar Championship, McGrath put his son in charge of managing the build from the company.
When the car made it to the US for completion from Rauh's famed builder Nakai, father and son bonded over the red, widebody 993-platform 911. The final product is certainly eye-catching. Scroll down to watch the video that features not only an engrossing father-son tale but also a seriously wicked, tuned Porsche from one of Japan's finest.
