X51 Engine Factory Upgrade

For those who will settle for nothing less, the 911 Carrera S, Carrera 4S, and Targa 4S Powerkit elevates power to an astounding 381 horsepower, with a sinewy 306 lb/ft of torque and an exceptionally broad torque band that quickens the 0-60 time from 4.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds* and adds even more adrenaline to your blood stream.

It does so by thoroughly revising the way a 911 breathes. A modified carbon-fiber air filter housing, plus revised, race-tuned camshafts and cylinder heads together draw in more air/fuel mixture with each intake "breath."

An exhaust manifold designed for freer flow of exhaust gases minimizes back pressure as the engine exhales, and an optional Sport Exhaust including two stainless steel dual tailpipes with hard-chrome finish adds the further excitement of more aggressive exhaust note.

    Kit consists of
  • - Cylinder heads with flow-optimized intake and exhaust ports
  • - Intake Manifold & Throttle Body - Increases inlet size from 76 mm to 82 mm
  • - X51 Headers - larger cross-section and optimized flow behavior
  • - Carbon Fiber Airbox with two intake channels
  • - Modified maps for the DME control unit
  • - Sport Exhaust with Chrome Tips & Dash Switch
  • - Third Radiator Kit (for manual transmission cars)
  • - Increased Engine Speed

Porsche celebrates 5M Facebook fans with crowdsourced one-off 911

Mon, 05 Aug 2013

Porsche's Facebook fan base appears to be accelerating as quickly as the cars it builds. The German automaker has just unveiled a special 911 Carrera 4S designed with crowdsourced input as a way to thank its five million Facebook fans.
The 911 features special Aquablaumetallic paint from Porsche Exclusive, contrasting 20-inch white Carrera S wheels and pinstriping, along with an aero package including a fixed rear wing. Inside, there are unique backlit sill plates and the obligatory dashboard engraving that says "Personally Built by 5 Million Porsche Fans."
As a way to turn at least one virtual thumbs up into its more meaningful physical-world equivalent, Porsche is holding a contest to win the chance to drive the car at Britain's Silverstone racetrack - and bring a friend - and nine lucky runners-up will win 1:43-scale models of the 911. KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

Sat, 30 Mar 2013

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.

Ferrari 458 Speciale vs Porsche 911 GT3 shows what Chris Harris does best

Thu, Nov 27 2014

After a brief trip behind a pay wall, British auto journalist Chris Harris is back posting videos for free online, and shorts like this one are the perfect example of why his return is so welcome. Showing up at the damp Anglesey Circuit on the Welsh coast with the Ferrari 458 Speciale and Porsche 911 GT3, Harris ostensibly aims to find the better model. However, the final result really succeeds in showcasing the fun to be had behind the wheels of both supercars, particularly when initiating huge slides around the track. As Harris presents it, the vehicles get through the circuit in somewhat different ways The Ferrari is brash and "feels alive," as he puts it as it screams around the track. Alternatively, the Porsche is a bit more restrained, while still being able to show some emotion. In the end, it comes down to trying to get a controlled lap around Anglesey from this duo, but it's pretty clear that the times don't tell the whole story. If you're in the mood to watch two of the world's premiere supercars wag their tails in the wet, then this video cannot be missed.
