Porsche 911t Targa - '71 Driver Project - Investment You Can Enjoy This Summer on 2040-cars
Ontario, New York, United States
1971 Porsche 911T Targa – Chassis 9111110767 – Engine 6115097 I plan to bring this car to Hershey swap meet 4/19. More photos and information will be added to my web site at http://cars.autolinc.us/2168411 as questions get asked and I get time to respond. No COA yet but probably matching engine – 768th US Targa for 1971, 1096th US 911T engine for 1971. I recently bought this car out of 6 year storage, and will sell it as a good, drivable project. Only some patch welding and minor assembly work is needed to make this a legal driver. Some of the attractive features of the car are: · Original color is very rare - 8310-11 Light Metallic Green · AC car originally with most parts saved · Excellent engine, transmission, brakes · Most typical rust areas are sound, never rusted · New carpets and RS door cards come with the car · Standard Recaro comfort seats in excellent condition · Nice 15” Fuchs – 6”&8” rim widths · Driver door still pings · Excellent panel and door alignment and gaps · Original floor pan un-rusted for the most part · SSI heat exchangers with a new Bursch exhaust As received it took little effort to get into drivable condition. It was running when stored, and apparently put away properly. The mileage showing is 71K. The current color is a very dark metallic red/brown (black cherry). The first test drive showed the engine had plenty of power, more than expected (goes like stink! – may have been upgraded), the transmission shifts easily, with good synchromesh, and the brakes worked well with no prior refreshing. Compression after 6 years storage and no prior run-in is #1-133 2-125 3-128 4-140 5-120 6-135. This should improve with use. Negative issues are as follows. Interior upholstery and some panels are out and need to be installed. The front pan needs repair as one front suspension mounting point is weak. The metal between the floor and passenger side rocker needs replacement. There is some patching of the inner rocker on this side. There are two small spots with bubbling paint on the driver side front fender. The targa top needs full restoration but is mechanically sound. There is the typical dash crack. Rear fender flares are fiberglass and look decent, but one area needs surface smoothing. A small area of attachment needs to be re-bonded. The rear license plate panel area has been filled in. An RS style front fiberglass bumper and a glass 930 style spoiler are mounted. No records came with the car. The car drives great right now with a dealer plate. It could be your perfect, affordable entry into ownership of a rare and rapidly appreciating Porsche. Drive it now, get to know it, then restore it when you have collected the parts and money to do the job right and make it exactly what you want. PLEASE NOTE If you have less than 5 feedbacks you MUST contact me or your bid will be cancelled. A $1000 deposit is required within 48 hours of auction closing, This car is being offered through other advertising media to the public and may be withdrawn from the auction if I receive a satisfactory offer at any time. The car is sold with a transferable NY State registration as titles were not used here in 1971. Included will be a NY dealer bill of sale MV-50. I have had no problems with this in other sales to US states. I will be happy to assist in loading and shipping arrangements, but I am not responsible for your being able to register the car in your state or country - it is your responsibility to determine what your local requirements are. |

Pininfarina teases its Tesla- and Bugatti-baiting EV supercar
Tue, Jul 10 2018Pininfarina isn't being bashful when it comes to getting into the car business. The Italian design house has revealed a sketch of the PF0 Concept, an electric supercar aimed directly at the world's fastest and most expensive vehicles. With upward of 1,000 horsepower, along with an expected price in the millions of dollars, this extreme EV is meant as a calling card for Pininfarina's upcoming range of electric cars and SUVs. So should the likes of Tesla, Porsche, Ferrari, Bugatti and Lamborghini be worried? Pininfarina might be new to building its own cars, but the company has many decades of experience designing and engineering some of the most desirable cars of all time — including many of the finest supercars to have worn a Ferrari badge on their nose. As we reported earlier this year, Pininfarina has teamed with Indian auto manufacturer, Mahindra, to develop a range of high-end EVs. With this roughly $500 million investment, not to mention some engineering help from Croatian supercar manufacturer, Rimac, Pininfarina aims to start high. The company will first introduce a hypercar, based on the PF0 Concept, within two years, then bring along a range of more affordable electric cars and SUVs. These will more directly take on the likes of Porsche Cayenne, Lamborghini Urus, and Tesla Model X. So yes, if you're in the business of building expensive cars, especially ones with a lot of batteries positioned inside them, Pininfarina's plans for the PF0 (that's a zero, not the letter "O," by the way) should make you sit up and take notice. "Automobili Pininfarina is a pioneering new business created to service the most discerning clients in the world," said Michael Perschke, CEO for Automobili Pininfarina. "Our product portfolio will launch with an innovative, zero-emissions hypercar that represents the progression we aim to make at the pinnacle of the luxury and sports car market." According to its press release, Pininfarina is currently presenting its "business and product plans to prospective retailer partners, clients and media in New York this week." After its tour of the Big Apple, look for Pininfarina to officially reveal the PF0 Concept during Monterey Car Week in August. Mysterious Porsche 911 Cabriolet spied, could be GTS
Mon, 10 Mar 2014While Porsche's designers can jokingly be accused of being some of the laziest in the industry due to the incremental changes to the 911's iconic design, no such charge can be leveled against the engineers and product planning folks. That's because it seems like each week arrives with news of a new variation of the marque's iconic rear-engined sports car. So, for this week, we've brought you images of what we think is the new 911 GTS Cabriolet, undergoing testing in a thawing winter wonderland.
Now, what is it that gives this 911 away, compared to standard convertible? Well, the big thing is the new offset, center-mounted exhausts. Borrowing a page from the last Volkswagen R32, these exhaust tips are unlike anything we've seen from Porsche. Only the GT3 wears center pipes, and unlike these spy photos, the twin pipes on the track-minded 911 are stacked neatly alongside each other. The other change spotted by our spies is the set of active-aerodynamic flaps in the front bumper, which can automatically channel air toward the brakes for increased cooling, or close off to reduce drag, as needed.
Those exhausts are a pretty big design detail, and so far as we can tell is the only differentiator between the other 911s in this car's posse. Our spies speculate that this could be a 911 Speedster, but point out that both the canvas roof and windshield remain unchanged - the rumored Speedster model would almost certainly feature a different roof assembly along with a steeply raked windshield.
NYT profiles Blue Nelson, a reclusive and interesting CA car collector
Thu, 25 Sep 2014If it weren't for his Dale Earnhardt Sr. looks, Blue Nelson could be one one of those soft-spoken, nondescript guys whom you meet briefly and never learn much more about. However, as The New York Times shows in a recent profile and video, behind closed doors, Nelson keeps a fascinatingly eclectic collection of automotive oddities and vintage bicycles.
While his main career is in the movie industry, Nelson's other job is as a car hunter. He takes on clients searching for a specific model and helps them find and restore the dream vehicle that they're after. Hiring him takes some dedication, though, because Nelson doesn't advertise his services. "If people want to find me, they know how to find me," he says in the video.
Beyond being an automotive private detective, Nelson has a fantastically varied collection of vehicles of his own. He likes to have models that people don't usually see, and his garage holds a classic Chrysler New Yorker and an extremely rare Rometsch convertible. Although, the one that means the most to him is the 1962 Porsche 356 convertible that Blue came home in as a baby. Check out the video to learn more about Nelson and his philosophy about forming a bond with a car.
