Considered for years among purists and enthusiasts to be one of the great 911s of all time, the 911 SC finally seems to be coming into it's own. Many experts and analysts have recently put the venerable model, produced between 1978-1983 on their "ones to watch" or more specifically, "ones to buy now" lists. The overall durability and reliability coupled with that pure, air cooled, "911ness" make this model a very likely candidate for the types of financial appreciation already enjoyed by the 356 and early 911 cars.

This example was formerly owned and maintained by Peter Zimmerman, founder of a Santa Monica independent Porsche repair shop and author of "The Used 911 Story," a very popular book about purchasing a used 911 now in it's 8th edition. Pete sold it to Jim Schrager, author of the "Buying, Enjoying and Driving The Early 911", as well as a regular contributor to Excellence Magazine, Panorama, and Sports Car Market. During Pete's lengthy ownership of the car, it was shipped to Northern Indiana (summer of 2000) when Pete and his family moved to the South Bend, IN area and Pete worked on many of Jim's cars for the entire summer. When Pete headed home to California at the end of the term, Jim talked him out of his car. It has remained in the Schrager family (also owned for some time by Jim's cousin, before being bought back by Jim), essentially since this time. I acquired the car from Jim a little over a year ago.

Here are some additional notes made while taking a walk around the vehicle:

Interior condition is excellent, no cracks in the dash, carpets, side panels and seats in very good condition. Car has clearly been very well maintained, with interior wear less than expected for mileage.

Exterior paint is original. Shows some typical wear (few stone chips, etc) but shines beautifully. No rust, ANYWHERE. Looks like a 3-5 year old car underneath.

Targa top in excellent condition.

Mechanical condition is excellent with no know flaws.

Brakes and steering are excellent.

Engine makes excellent power. Stronger than any other 911 SC I've ever enjoyed. In fact, around town, this car is quicker and smoother than my 930.

Comes with a signed copy of Schrager's latest book!

Inoperative items: Air conditioning, cruise control & clock. The A/C is all there, intact and blows cold. Could be recharged, or updated to an R134 unit.

Over all, this is not a concourse show car, but a very, very nice driver quality 911 SC. I like this example (& would keep it myself if I could!) because it is so nice and reliable enough to enjoy regularly and with pride, but not a perfect trailer queen that you're afraid to take out and use as intended.

Usability, coupled with investment opportunity, in a car acquired directly from the hands of two of the marque's most noted authorities, make this a "weapons grade" 911 SC that is sure to be at home and enjoyed within any of the world's finest collections.
