Porsche prioritizes 200,000-unit sales target over exclusivity [w/poll]

Would a Porsche still be a Porsche if it weren't as exclusive? That's the question which industry pundits are asking - and customers may soon as well - as the German automaker emerges from the fringe in pursuit of larger volumes.
A dozen years ago Porsche was barely selling over 50,000 units per annum. In a sales surge that has gathered pace as fast as a 911 Turbo, however, it was already hovering around the 100,000-unit mark a few years later. Last year it sold over 160,000, and has targeted 200,000 units by 2018. But it may not even take that long.
Automotive News reports that Porsche has advanced its targets to reach for 200,000 units by the end of this year or the next. The bump in sales would be driven particularly by the introduction of the new Macan, of which it aims to sell 50,000 units annually, starting next year. The Cayenne currently stands far and away as its most successful model. The 911 and Panamera have swapped second place a few times over the past five years, followed by the Boxster and Cayman.

It's fair to say the NFL Combine is a big deal for players entering a draft. Their future quite literally comes down to a series of drills. You a defensive tackle? Better rock out on the bench press. Hoping to be the next great wide receiver? Your vertical better be awesome. And what of the running backs? Well, few drills match the importance of the 40-yard dash. That particular drill will have a renewed importance not just for the RBs, but for other skill positions at this year's Combine, as the three fastest times will be gifted a shiny new Porsche 911. Adidas is offering up the three cars, which ESPN reports are valued at about $83,000 a piece. That means these new recruits won't be rolling around in a Turbo or GT3. They will, however, sport a questionable sense of design, as the German shoe company has fitted a cheetah print, which is meant to match one of the company's new trainers. Porsche 911 GT2 caught testing, is super bad

Look what spy photographers have spotted sprinting around the Nürburgring. Our shooters nabbed a few photos of the all-new Porsche 911 GT2 in its native habitat without any of the bulky camouflage or cladding we're used to seeing. The result is our first truly clear view at the upcoming successor to the GT2 throne. From the looks of it, the new model will boast wider fender arches front and rear, and hefty air intakes set into the machine's hips should help feed a beastly 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine. Early guesses put the engine output somewhere around 560 horsepower.
Mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the engine should propel this rear-engined heathen to 62 miles per hour in under three seconds. Top speed? Try somewhere around 200 mph. If that's true, the next-generation 911 GT2 will be the fastest 911 in Porsche history.
